I'm asked "why do you not just shoot digital?" and "why do you shoot film?" This is my long answer.

You may enjoy the Leica Discord group where Leica users chat and share pictures. Lots of film shooters. It’s a bit of a younger crowd, but very global and lots of diversity. Thanks for posting.

Great video! Is it fair to say that you "learned" photography on digital, and then took the training wheels off?

FP4+ at EI of 1000 … pushed about 3 stops … and then contrast boosted in Capture One with a set black and white point.

Here’s a quote from him: I started out working with negatives with a medium-format Pentax camera. About halfway through, in 2008, I switched to a digital camera because I was in constant fear that security machines at airports could destroy my films. A friend assured me that digital images were now of good quality. When I went digital, I switched to a Canon camera and I found the quality was much better than the medium-format negatives. In the final prints, you can see no difference because I have worked with one film, Kodak Tri-X film, all my life, and we were able to reproduce the exact grain of that film in the digital image. We also created a way of working that was no different from how I had always worked. I recorded everything on digital cards just as I did with film and, from these images on the cards, contact sheets and prints were made for me. Those I selected were then made into negatives.

I was tempted to run a few rolls of film through my SLR, then I looked at the price of film. I didn't even bother checking development costs. Film is dead.

You may want to tell Kodak, who is hiring 200 chemists and engineers so they can grow their film division. … and Pentax who is releasing a film camera. … and Ilford and Ferrania who are barely keeping up with orders … and the new film labs that are opening their doors in 2024 … you are right, it’s hard to just quickly figure out how to do it cheaply, but it can be done

Check out Royal We Film Lab in Oakland … their film prices are about as low as it goes, and I can get you 27% off lab services, if you want it … and they are already one of the cheapest, if you want scans … there are cheaper places if you don’t care about high-res scans.
