Never before shared SECRET STEALTH CAMPING spots that are great places for a sound sleep at night, beautiful areas, easy access, and I've never shared most of these before on my channel. Plus you're going to get some tips on overnighting in these stealth camping areas along with the pros and cons of my experience since 2017 where I've been traveling full-time in a Class C RV for the first year and a van since 2018.

Hospital parking lots. Usually the local small town hospital is marked on the Interstate. Patients and visitors come and go all day and night in every kind of vehicle you can think of. There is even a cafeteria inside if you like the food and of course clean bathrooms .

One thing I saw a van life talk about with a hotel they went to; it was one with a security guard in a little car who literally watched them come in and not get out of the car to go check in to the hotel. They were there like 15-20 mins before the guard knocked on th door and said they couldn’t stay there. So that may be a thing. A security guard driving around a parking lot may make you feel safer, but you may also be one of the people they’re trying to shoo away. 😂

I stopped to sleep in a small town in northern CA. Just before dawn I was awakened by a noise. I went out to see a deer eating fruit from a tree and had pulled a branch down that tapped on my truck. I told it to go away but it ignored me. It was very accustomed to people.

#10 SECRET STEALTH CAMPING SPOT is church parking lots! No one seems to be talking about them. The larger the church, the better. Also, when you are stealth camping at any of the 9 places described above it's usually much better to actually back in to your spot so that if you have you leave in a hurry during the night, you can pull out and away faster.

Amtrak train station parking lots . They may charge you, but not a lot. When I take. the train I pay $10.00 for my parking for for 24 hours. The station will have restrooms, food and a small convenient store - depending on the size of the station. You will fit right in at an RV dealer. Just park near the service area because you have plates on you rig. Larger county fairs in the summer are good as you will fit right in with a carnival worker that has an RV .

We have THE best rest area in Oregon that, during the holidays, had hot coffee, cocoa AND warm homemade cookies!! This was all pre-Covid of course. Yeah, yeah…don’t take warm cookies from a complete stranger in Oregon. To be fair, the woman had to be in her 70’s so I didn’t feel threatened by her. We had the loveliest conversation. Cheers to GOOD humans at rest areas!

Hi Amber. I am in a hotel parking lot now! I have had good luck asking at the front desk if I can stay and have never been turned down. I sleep so much better when I ask. I have offered $20 and they always say no, don’t worry about it.. I like smaller hotels not close to the highway. So much quieter. I’m in the upper peninsula of Michigan where there is a ton of camping but sometimes it can a lot of driving to find those spots.

Great information and I think it is so important not to use your pull outs and don't leave a mess. So many great places no longer allow overnight parking because of the messes some people leave behind so please keep it clean no matter where you park.

👍💡Oooh another stealth parking spot that I’ve used in a crunch is an auto repair shop parking lot (for example a big chain tire shop) in after they closed and out early before any employees arrived to open - no problem at all. 💝

I live near a boat launch and I would say - even if it looks big/like there’s a lot of room for you - DONT DO THIS. People come with a boat on a trailer and launch for the day. They need to park there with their big long boat trailer. If your RV is in the way they can’t use the lot the way it’s meant to be used. It might be fine for a few hours at night. There are also usually cameras there. The lots at rural put-ins for boats seem to be pretty big/look roomy when they’re empty. But the local fishermen often start arriving 4-5 am in their trucks pulling boats on trailers and they intend to park there. But if your camper/jumper van/SUV/tiny home on wheels is berthed there for the night you probably won’t get a knock. But you won’t be stealth. I wouldn’t try doing it 2 nights.

👍🤩💝Good tips. I have used many of the options you mentioned when I’ve been on roadtrips in my SUV. I’m petite enough to sleep in the 3rd row of my SUV. I’ve even stayed at a Rest Stop for more than 12-24 hours because I was too sick with a migraine to drive. No one gave me any problem (& I didn’t cause any problems). I felt safe because they had staff cleaning the bathrooms, common area, changing trash containers & the parking lot. I would have went to a hotel but I was too sick to drive another inch. I put in my earplugs & put on my blackout eye mask and slept slept slept. 🙏💝

Every Hospital has security and they are usually patrolled. If you have a family member in the Hotel then perhaps. Otherwise you might want to ask if you see a security officer or patrol driving around. Hotels usually have cameras in the lots as well..

Just so you know, Oregon has put up "no overnight parking" signs in all of my favorite pullouts overlooking the coast. For several years Iʻve parked for free anywhere between the California border and Bandon. I think Iʻve noticed two "wide spots" off the side of the road now that donʻt have signs. Iʻll be using the 777 Casino parking lot now, and taking off for the coast for the day. Thanks for your tips! Love the motion light!

Susan Bame 😊 Casinos are great too. I've had several people say that to me about Oregon, but I was just there and didn't have any problems finding spots to pull out. The closer to a city or town the pull out is where I typically see the "no overnight" signs.

Really like your videos. I saw the one on "is stealth camping legal" and really liked it. Told myself I wasn't going to watch anymore camper van videos, but got drawn in by that title. Then I found it to be very fun to watch. It didn't have that pretentious vibe that many do, and I've watched hundreds. I loved the down to earth home feel of your channel so I subscribed. I have a Ram Pro I built out and plan on some day getting to hit the road and travel. I just can't right now because I care for my bed ridden mother. I spend a lot of time in my van and sleep in our driveway about 5 days a week to get a feel for what it will be like. God's best to you. Thanks for the little escape I feel while watching.

Hey Amber... recently I had to take a member of our family to the hospital late at night. As they were going to be sometime going through tests I searched the neighbourhood nearby and found many streets that did not have any overnight parking restrictions, so I was able to get some rest overnight in my car. So your style of van would probably fit right in. Just sayin'

great video. the underlying theme is to use logic, common sense and be smart about it. that rule will apply to all stealth camping. after 6 years of stealth camping, we have received 2 knocks out of about 200 nights. we love camping by the water. wether it is by the shores of a river, or a lake, there is often a good place to park. sometimes the areas are developed, other times it is BLM land. also, you have access to water so it is a great place to fill up your tanks or take a swim !! One stealth campaign area that i have used that was not mentioned was ski hills (in the summer) the ski area parking lots are huge and mostly abandoned. you are almost always in a gorgeous spot with a huge mountain across the lot. there is usually no one there at night, but there are people who come in the day to hike or bike. if you want to be super stealthy, you can pull in between or behind the huge snow machines or tractors that are parked for the season. the same goes for golf courses in the winter (primarily in the north) as they are closed for the season and offer huge empty lots that are predominantly abandoned for the winter months.

You’re so welcome. I wondered if there was some sort of noise padding in the inside of the semi trucks to deaden the noise a bit.

Medium size hospitals that do not have parking garages may work. Lot's pf people come and go 24/ 7 between employees and visitors. Car dealerships are good after business hours as your van may be presumed to be there overnight for maintenance that takes more than a day. Also gyms that reopen 24/7 re good. any dinner that is open all night may work. Any auto repair shops could work as explained above. Smaller regional airports are a thought. One may pay say $20.00 to park for 24 hours, but no one will bother you and you are night. Small airports do not have a lot of flights between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM Also the airport will have restaurants , restrooms, vending machines, ect.

There’s a fellow that parks in the business park I work in. He’s pulling a very rugged looking trailer. He’s there almost every day. He’s been joined by a couple older class bs. They all seemed to not been hassled for their presence. I also started to see some rvs parked in our local Home Depot. It’s a thing!

Also, street parking next to a hotel/motel is something I've done a lot of. It depends on the configuration of the street system next to many hotels, but I've done this a lot.

@@AmberJBaldwin If you're ever going through Boise, Idaho I have the PERFECT street-next-to-a-hotel spot just off the freeway. Just let me know if you're ever passing through and I can send coordinates. There's a great one in Page, Arizona, one in Burley, Idaho, another in Twin Falls, Idaho and no doubt many others. I always scope out on Google maps first to look for a particular type of side-street because not all of them have this good street setup.

I live in Austin and it's true Texas has beautiful rest stops. When I drive to So. CA, I am always comfortable stopping. Just fyi you might see a house near a Rest Stop in TX. The state provides free housing and salary, and the resident is responsible for maintaining the Rest Stops in the area.

Well, thought I'd give this a listen, even tho many other channels have covered this topic that I watch but there were a couple of tips and suggestions like marinas that I've never heard of, so thanks for sharing this info. I do worry about sleeping because, I REALLY am used to and need to have my headphones ON, all night and listening to sleep music because I am a light sleeper...every little noise wakes me up and I hate silence also so that's kind of a conundrum, plus I will be traveling with 2 cats and they make noise. I worry that if I don't hear the dreaded "knock" or anything that might be worrisome, hope I can figure this out. I will be car camping for the first time soon.

HI Amber! Great video. I was wondering -- do you think you could do a video on WATER? How do you like your Berkey? Any problems with it? (We're considering buying one and your opinion would be helpful.) What's the water quality like out there on the road? Is it hard to find good drinking water? How often do you buy bottled water? Do you keep an emergency stash? Do you drink from your on-board tank or just use that for dishes, etc.?
