In the plug for the Collars and Co polos, it looked like one of the models was wearing a tie with the polo. I’ve never thought you could wear a tie with a polo, even one with a more dressy collar. Thoughts?

I’m glad that you mention personal upkeep and hygiene. That ‘old people’ scent begins to creep in as early as we are in our 40s. I moved thousands of miles away from relatives for a job. Finally able to visit home after 3 years, and noticed a different ‘scent’ on both my father and father-in-law. Both guys were in their 50s, so I just chalked it up to part of aging, as I’d noticed this about my grandfather years before. I did a little research, and found it was a REAL part of aging! Older people do smell differently as they age. At about age 40, the body subtly changes the way omega-7 unsaturated fatty acids on the skin are degraded. These acids get exposed to the air and create a compound called “2-nonenol.” Nonenal most likely gets produced due to hormone imbalances. These imbalances occur as people age, resulting in more lipid acid. Additionally, our skin’s natural antioxidant protection declines and results in great oxidation of lipid acid. Nonenal is then produced when lipid acid is oxidized, creating this “old people smell.” Furthermore, chronic illnesses and diseases such as diabetes, uremia, eczema, and dermatitis can add to the smell. Though present in both sexes, women tend to pay more attention to hygiene, so the ‘aroma’ isn’t as obvious. Gentlemen, it’s important to pay close attention to personal hygiene, regular laundering of clothing (including jackets), cleaning car - and home - interiors, and especially maintain your health to hold off the breakdown of one’s body. Stay healthy, stay strong!

"Since the “old people smell” is a naturally occurring result of aging, how do we address it? It certainly is never comfortable when you have to bring up one’s body odor. Fortunately, according to one study, the “old people smell” isn’t as intense as many may assume. The study states that of all age groups, a senior’s body odor was one of the least offensive amongst the demographics. During this study, each participant was given an unscented t-shirt with underarm pads to sleep in for five days. The age groups consisted of men and women from young (20 to 30 years old), middle-aged (45 to 55 years old), to seniors (75 to 95 years old). Of the age groups, the middle-aged women in the study were ranked the highest for the best smell; directly behind them was senior men. It’s tough to get rid of this odor. That’s because the fatty acids that help create the odor are not water-soluble, so it does not wash off in the shower. The reason the smell is so distinct is that the acids can easily transfer to clothing and bedding that are close to the skin, and can’t be washed off. The best way to minimize the odor is for seniors to engage in healthy lifestyles that include regular exercise, clean eating, reduced stress, and low or no tobacco or alcohol intake. Drinking plenty of water can help dilute the fatty acids and minimize their impact. Some anecdotal evidence points to Japanese persimmon extract or some varieties of green tea to help break down the compounds responsible for the smell and dissipate it more quickly. Others suggest using an organic, fine salt or sugar scrub to keep skin exfoliate and remove oils. There are a few other ways to reduce nonenal odor: Air out living areas regularly. Sometimes a senior’s environment can be warm and stuffy, which magnifies the odor. Open windows and use ventilation when possible. Wash clothing regularly. Even though the nonenal-2 molecule isn’t water-soluble, a laundry supplement designed to fight stains and cut grease may help. Make sure the bedding is clean. Air out bedding between use and regularly wash in hot water. Minimizing the smell may vary on your lifestyle and living quarters, but certain dietary and lifestyle changes may also help. Since the scent is a naturally occurring change in our body, it cannot be erased permanently. The Good News While the ‘Old Person Smell’ may be a bit musty, it’s still ranked less problematic than middle-aged body odor. In fact, people compare nonenal to the scent of cucumbers, aged beer, and old books - nothing inherently offensive. So, the next time you walk into a senior living community, retirement home, or your parents’ house, you’ll know why you smell what you smell. It’s a natural byproduct of aging, and it can’t be eliminated even with superior cleaning and dedication to personal hygiene. Franklin Park® Senior Living, with retirement communities in San Antonio, Texas, and the surrounding areas, encourages you to visit our blog for more information regarding aging and senior health."

And the counterpart is the smell of young men which seems to be strongest and most repulsive at and immediately after adolescence. There have to be feremones involved here which help women choose men of the best breeding age. Perhaps the old man smell starts when the ends of chromosomes start to deteriorate? Anyone who has such low self-esteem as to try to avoid looking their actual age is not really great breeding material anyway. Keep in mind the overall idea of our American idea of hygiene is designed by Madison Ave to sell soap & all that goes with it. It's a huge part of GNP that doesn't feed, house or educate anyone. Vanity....pfffft.

Too much. When I moved from Bangkok I kept 40% of what I had. Also too much. When I moved from NYC I kept 15%. Too little. 25-30% is about right IMHO.)

For me, it depends: If you are thin, you can go tucked. For short and stocky guys, it does not look good. If wearing sneakers, go untucked. If wearing boots, go tucked. When wearing leather jackets, it will depend on the style of the jacket. Cafe racers, being more body-hugging, look better when the t-shirt is tucked. This is, of course, just my take on the subject, and it's based on the assumption that you are wearing a good-fitting t-shirt

T-shirts? Depends. If wearing alone, untucked. But when you wear a short jacket over it and it hangs out below the bottom of the jacket, it starts to look like that fanny pack earlier in the video. And with a jacket, it sort of is an undershirt, so tuck it in.

The fanny pack has really made a resurgence and I can understand why. I use to rock mine proudly in 1993. Today we have the wallet, the keys, the personal phone, the company phone, the money clip and it’s a crying shame to see all of these bulging the back pocket AND the front pocket (even worse). The fanny pack and shoulder bags that the euro guys are wearing have become more of a practical utility accessory.

I've been wearing a uniform for nearly 40 years and have always had my wear dictated to me by regulations and/or necessity. Now that I've retired, I want (need) to up my game. With that being said, I have been watching your videos and am making good progress. You talk about colors and style, what to do and more importantly what not to do, but one thing I have yet to see is the subject of socks. I know this is a small detail, but I see men wearing casual clothes with and without socks. What are the guidelines for this? When is it ok to go sockless, what colors are good and what should be avoided? Thanks Antonio.

@@anvilangst7573 if I was on a hike/expedition I’d take something that distributes the weight I’m carrying equally across my back ie a backpack. I’d use a sling for every day carry in towns/cities as it’s sleek and compact and I can still get an iPad and journals in it easily. I have a Filson Dryden briefcase for more formal work-based outings. Different bags for different days/occasions. If I went to an event such as a festival, a sling bag is perfect for me! I’m more likely to take essentials. If I took my briefcase bag (as much as I love it) I’d most likely fill it with stuff I most likely wouldn’t actually need and would end up being burdened by it. It’s all in the planning I guess.

Okay, so I've had the t-shirt tucked v. untucked argument so many more times with my sisters, girlfriends, and even my ex-fiancée than you could shake a stick at, and I am a FIRM believer in tucking in ALL t-shirts, for these reasons: 1.) Comfort! No matter the trousers, tucking in the t-shirt provides the same soft feeling at the waistband, since it insulates the body from any potential fabric bunching, or any elastic. 2.) Warmth! I'm only a buck and a quarter, and I live in the PNW, so damp drafts up my back and sides aren't usually on my list of top ten favorite things. Tucking the t-shirt disallows unwanted cold air. 3.) Style! Them hemline of a t-shirt is usually much lower than the waistband on trousers, so when a t-shirt is worn untucked (especially if it's a different color than the trousers), it lowers the beltline, which can be detrimental to short guys like myself. I'm 5'6, and having a lower beltline makes me look like a penguin. The higher beltline can also add the illusion of more stature. 4.) Vanity! I have received no fewer than 3 compliments ever day this summer that I have worn a t-shirt tucked into my trousers. I think it's because I can use my shirt garters (shirt-to-sock with trousers and tall socks, shirt-to-thigh for shorts or trousers with no-show socks) to keep the front relatively crisp. And if a cardigan, sweater, or ANY other layer is worn on top of the t-shirt, it should most certainly be tucked in, fullstop.

@@maltheopia I hear you. I like looking better, but health has always been the bottom line. I had a major "come to Jesus" about 3 years ago that really caught my attention. My kids needed a ride home from a football game one evening. My car was broken down and in the shop, and their ride had to bail unexpectedly, so no one else was available to help. I had a roughly 2 mile walk to get to them. Then, there was the 2 mile walk back home (so 4 miles total). Between lack of energy and constant pain, that night was a huge wake-up call. Took me about 3 days to feel right again. Terrible!

If your shoes hurt your feet or toes then they're not the right size or fit. Go somewhere that will measure your feet and do a digital foot assessment. Most decent running stores, like Fleet Feet do this. Then you have a better starting point. Thanks, Antonio, for another great video and on point content!🙌🥰

There's no excuse for wearing square toed shoes even if you have wide feet. Dress shoe manufacturers routinely stock shoes in EE widths and wider.

Sadly I recently attended a work colleagues funeral, however what was also very sad was the number of work colleagues wearing square toed shoes, some of which looked like they would've been new, back in the 20th century

Some clearly expressed views and food for thought Antonio. Thank-you sir. I saw one still image had the model with their shirt untucked…apart from about 4 inches across the belt where it was tucked behind the waistband. Have seen this a fair amount and it just looks untidy to me. Each to their own, but wondered what your view is? I think it is a ‘fashion’ thing rather than ‘style’. It is possibly similar to a man wearing a dress shirt buttoned to the top of the collar without a necktie. An obvious breaking of a dress convention as a statement?

Great video, I wear my bum bag across my body, picked some leather ones in Morocco. They are great to have keys, lighter wallet etc while I ride my Vespa. I worry about things fallng out of my pockets while I am riding. Plus it is easy access while you are sitting down too. It is a fine line between being practical and looking slightly wrong.

Nice endorsement of Collars & Co. What fabric are these made out of Antonio? They don't specify in their descriptions. Looks at if they're synthetic polos by the moisture wicking and the 4-way stretch. I aim to avoid synthetics and go for supima cottons etc... for softness and the natural aspects.

Dad jeans, however, are actually extremely popular at the very moment by men at the age of 14-26. There are simply things young men wear to look older that they can pull off. Same goes for college hoodies. Or college jackets.

I want to look older but I don't want to look like a joke. There's a difference. People always mistake me for 5-10 years younger than I am and because of that they think I'm less experienced. I also can't grow a beard so that doesn't help. I dress up and try to look more mature. It's just my boyish face. I can't do anything about it.

I for one believe wearing a T-Shirt, whether it is tucked or not, varies mostly by what look you’re going for. When wearing a suit obviously you should tuck it in. Not tucking can cause an issue with the suit fit and look depending on your size and details about the T-Shirt itself. But with a pair of jeans I wouldn’t. Most times when wearing something like jeans or chinos where your T-Shirt is exposed is mainly to be comfortable.

First, congratulations on your daughter, Marina! Your recommendations are great, but I have EEEE feet and shoe styles are very limited. For clothing, I think fit is still king. I’ve never cared for polos or tee shirts and still wear buttoned shirts. I’ve thought about changing style, but can’t wrap my head around the question of tucked or untucked.

I like a tucked in tshirt to start the day but i like it when it naturally fall out during the day an when the only exposure is the front belt buckle. Mind you this is not for a formal function but just as you come off the garden or your day walking around the neighbourhood towards the evening of the day.

I’m 55 5’-10” at 175 athletic build with some Cellulite around the waist. I wear a slim boot cut jeans belt to match of course …T-shirt tucked in the front out in the back no graphic on it. I’m sure people are like tuck it in dude but you get to an age where I like what I like and I don’t feel it’s sloppy or outdated. Of course my dress shirts are tucked in, or on a casual day untucked.

Shirt should be tucked in at all times! Where I live we call it a "newspaper" when a shirt sticks out your trousers or from underneath your jacket. It keeps your waistline high, gives opportunity to show off one's belt and makes the silhouette tighter and cleaner.

Tucked or untucked, that is the question... Why not both? If I wear a tee only, obviously untucked, or maximum a french tuck. However with a jacket (like at 6:27) or an unbuttoned shirt I use to tuck it in if I wear a nice belt

I liked tucked and untucked. Im more of work wear casual and suit, blazer, button up on the weekends. Im starting to like tucked more as I lose weight. I notice a movie called American history x the older brother had a tucked in long sleeve shirt style and I thought to my self why did that go out of style. Also noticed and older coworker who I know very well tucks his shirt weather its work wear or casual. untucked just seems childish now sometimes. I definitely going to start tucking my shirt in again.
