The 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring Model with Manual Transmission is an impressive vehicle. Leather seats, 6 speeds, turbo engine, and all the modern amenities. Here are 9 things (plus one bonus thing) that I wish I had found out before I bought it.
I am not sure if these would have actually changed my purchasing decision, the 2017 Honda Civic is pretty awesome, but it would have set my expectations accurately.

few things that i found out in my short time of owning this car, lol.... you can still "pull the e-brake" just have to use your finger to pull up the switch and hold it up and it reacts the same.... the revs stay up because it's trying to help you save on fuel economy, my humble 2 cents, lol

4:00 rev hang is actually a great thing for both when you upshifting (holds turbo spinning) and downshifting (without double clutching). It is more smooth when you coupling clutch to rev up engine a little bit, not from idle.

I have had the civic for about a month and in my dealership they didn't have it manual. but with that being said, it still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. *bonus* not many people have it where I'm from so it just makes me get stopped more and be given compliments, also the females love it

I love a lot about this car. I have the Sport Touring model and the ACC is fanastic. Love the kick from the Turbo, hardly seems like a civic all with it. The keyless entry is nice too, I just leave the key in my pocket, walk up to the door and as soon as I touch the handle it unlocks for me. Same with exiting, just walk away and it locks itself once you're about 3 feet away.

I agree, it was entertaining. His point was well taken. For all the great features a minor issue like the seat memory and the hand brake is nothing to gripe about. All the cars I've had I rarely used the handbrake anyway unless I was parked on uneven ground. Good job!! I learned a few things as a new HC 2017 owner!

I can confirm that shift knobs meant for the 9th gen civic does fit perfectly fine in the 10th gen civic, changed my 9th gen Si for a 10th gen Si and I transfered my shift knob from the old one to the new one, without any modification required, just pulled down the shift boot, unscrewed the OEM one, screwed the new one in place and pulled the shift boot back into its original position.

Well...no i dont actualy have a video and you dont need to unassemble all of the plastic trim around the shifter at all XD all you need to do is to grab the chrome ring just underneath the shift knob and pull it downward, takes a little bit of force but it will unclip itself, and you just slide it back up until it clips back into its original spot when you're done. you only need a 9/16 wrench to losen the bolt thightening the shift knob in order to remove it.

Just got mine this week (used), in electric green! Thanks for the demo on the display skins! I never would have found that. Mine is an automatic, and my only real gripe is that the engine does not seem to respond quickly when I slam on the gas. Trying to slip into a hole in traffic can be scary when the engine takes forever to finally engage!

You gotta live with the car to really appreciate it! My wife drives one of those (in Rallye Red) and it's just amazing! The infotainment interface is a bit circumvoluted, but hopefully its software will be updated. BTW, the CD-ROM only contains warranty information. They could have put a .pdf of the full Owner's Manual (around 650 pages) for the car and the Navigation System (another 250+ pages)

Just got the blue SI Sedan last week, loving it so far. One thing that I found missing... Vtec, yup thats right. The car does not have a Vtec motor. In my old 07 Si Coupe the Vtec would grab you at 4500 RPM and you could feel the power rip. Dont get me wrong the Turbo is nice and I have spanked several stock K20s in the older models already but what is an Si without Vtec.

I didn't realize the sport touring was available in manual. it was my understanding the sport was a dressed up LX model with manual 6 speed, and the Sport Touring is a dressed up EXL with CVT and paddle shifters. I say this as a Honda PDI technician. I am the guy that preps all the new cars at a Honda dealership. I can find no way to.purchase the car that you have. If you want manual transmission and a turbo engine you get a lowgrade radio and no navigation as a Sport model hatchback ., or you get a CVT. with all the extras as a Sport Touring.. Manual transmission not available with a bells and whistles package.

All Canadian-Spec Civics are better equipped than their US equivalent. For example, in the US, the Sport is based on the (US) LX. I am so happy you made this video. I was just looking at the new 2018 Honda Accord with the 252hp 4 cylinder engine and a 6 speed manual or the 10 speed automatic if it shifts anything like my BMW M3 7spd DCT :) NOT!! But I will look at both. The reason I need a car soon is because I sold my M3 and I have owned 6 BMW's and I'm done with BMW and paying $50 to $80k. I use to sell Honda's and BMW's but I haven't sold these car since 2007 so a lot has changed for sure. Honda doesn't change very fast and does things only to keep up with Nissan, Toyota and all these makers including Hyundai get ALL of their high end ideas from Mercedes and BMW. One thing that I know Honda has that BMW or Mercedes does not have is when you the driver pushes the turn signal and the camera shows on the screen who's next to you. But all the real advanced things always really do come from the German's. A buddy of mine bought a M5 with Night Vision which many couldn't care less about but there are drivers that can't live without it. I had no idea that many people "hate" driving at night for many reasons and one of them is not seeing but also anxiety. Go figure. Anyway, this video is well done and funny to watch and I see you put some fun to it. So I just saw last week that the Civic Si is nothing to write home about so I was looking at the Civic Type R but good God it is ugly AF!! After watching your video and some consideration I am going to go ahead and do what most people do and is just get the 2018 even if there are going to be many problems with it for the people who but the first year models. Just like when the new iPhone 8 comes out, rest assured the phone will kick ass but within a few days people will bitch and moan about what's wrong with the smallest thing or how the color is a finger print magnet or how much it sucks to use the phone underwater. Due to your video, I am not going to buy a Civic Touring which was also on the buying list. Since today is the last day of the month, I was going to go into the dealer and go right before they close and get a new one below invoice. I sold cars for 10 1/2 years and these cars go for under invoice but the 2018 Accord will not.....Well at least for 3 to 6 months depending on how consumers buy up the car or not. ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU FOR THIS COOL VIDEO!!

Not into tactile displays. That last thing I need is another thing in a vehicle to distract me. So to compensate I just don't get the display and simply use a third party bluetooth receiver and tune my radio in to it and just keep it on that station when I want to listen to playlists on my mobile cellular telephone. Mostly I just listen to the radio though. Heh. Great video. Thanks for the mini tour and info.

My cousin just traded his 2015 Civic-EX for a new 2018 model. Gone on 2018 Civic-EX: locking fuel door, CD player, removable rear headrests (they are "sewn" into the rear seat!), manual emergency brake. Still has the crummy "bicycle" toy horn, though. No physical knobs for radio or climate control. Interior "carpet" seems to be the same junk used for the trunk liner! So, Honda, where is the little bird? You know, the one that goes, "cheap, cheap, cheap!"

Love the ending. Maybe some text list to go with your 9 points. Im looking for a car for my wife. Civic has some issues. 1 no mem seat, but supposedly thats a luxury feature. 2. Like the sports version in Aus but it doesn't come with built in nav for that model only in the VTi Lx model or touring in US. You need to use phones gps. No volume knob. That HVAC no buttons would annoy us as well. So we like features overall of the top spec, but the twin tail pipe of sports is better looking. Now looking at Hyundai i30 now. More conservative looking like a golf, but looks to be more conventional like inside with functions. Also with civic we do wonder the longevity of the central TFT screen. Whats wrong with physical dials. Less things to go wrong. Be a nightmare to fix screen, and costly if after warranty period.

Did you get this from Campus Honda? I'm going to go test drive one this weekend. I'm not 100% decided on trim level yet, but probably the same as you have but with the CVT. I would consider the manual if I didn't have to drive in Colwood crawl traffic every day. Did you consider the Mazda 3 or any other sporty hatches? If so what made you decide on the Civic?
@grahamlancaster9587
@grahamlancaster9587 7 жыл бұрын
Pointy End yes I did. I like the 1.5 turbo engine, a lot. That and the value in the trim package sealed the deal for me. My other considerations were Volkswagon and used BMW or Audi. New civic fit everything just right as a family/fun vehicle. Good luck with the new car.

I have a 2018 LX Coupe with the 6 speed standard and I absolutely love the car. It's an amazing car. My favourite car I've ever driven. Gonna have it until it dies I think. I drive it all the time. Best purchase I've ever made. I've had the car since April and I still enjoy it as much as I did the day I got it.

Hey man, I know you commented awhile ago but I’m planning on getting the same car. How does your clutch feel? Does it light or do you have force/resistance. I’m thinking of buying one but the clutch on it is suspiciously light. No force no resistance, I drive a old Honda so the clutch on that is pretty heavy. So I’m not sure if the newer Hondas just have light clutch’s.
@riley1733
@riley1733 2 жыл бұрын
@@Saikotkg Clutch on mine is light. I also drove my father’s and stepmom’s Civic (which is a 2019 LX Sedan) and theirs is standard too and their clutch is light just like mine. I think the newer ones just have light clutch’s. Only car I’ve ever driven that has a heavy clutch is a Subaru WRX.

@@riley1733 oh okay thanks for responding. I never drove any other manual car other than mine so I was a little confused at how light it was.

@@Saikotkg No problem. I drove a few of them and the clutch’s we’re all light other than on the Subaru WRX. Honda’s are actually the easiest standard cars I’ve driven.

I installed a Mugen shift knob on my 2017 6MT ST Civic Hatch. Just buy the proper boot adapter off Amazon for cheap. Take the trim pieces off and cut the zip tie holding the stock chrome boot ring and install the new adapter. With this set up I can now install ANY shift knob I want.

To change the wallpaper you only have to press on an empty spot on the screen and the menu will pop up. Changing the skin basically sets the computer to a ''normal'' android ui, then it reacts like a phone would.

Hey Graham, just bought a new 2017 hatch ex-l w/ sensing and I noticed my volume slider on the steering wheel doesn't work. Searched the interwebs and it seems I 'm not the only one with this problem, however other countries civic hatch's seem to have the ability. I'm in the U.S. and no go. does it work for you or are you stuck with the pressing of the slider as well. Seems like an oversight by Honda. No mention of this in the manual. Thanks for any info.

There may be a difference between the hatchback and a real "trunk". You don't want a hatch to pop open accidentally, but a trunk opening isn't really a problem.

I was really excited that they came out the the hatch in the turbo manual configuration the one I test drove was a lower model sport it had the same radio Set up as my brothers 2012 civic si which was kinda of disappointing, the power numbers sound good but it didn't feel quick even when you try to load the turbo I wanted to love the civic hatch so much but it just seems like Honda could've added more features or actual sport into it but I'm sure they made sure they left room on the table for the civic si and the civic type R I ended up getting a base 2017 wrx instead super fun to drive everyday especially dealing with traffic when you need the power it's there
