A good rule is to always have 4000 baht in cash at any time, or at least a days spending. Always have some coins to pay for public toilets. Nothing touristy in Thailand opens before noon. I cant believe that people still fall for the tuk tuk scams. BTW the Palace was not closed. Really great advice on mosquito repellent, its so true, but local. Thai repellent probably will not work in Mexico, it doesn't work in Australia. Generally hotels mark-up ancillary services by 100% (ie taxis, tours, show tickets). Always next door to any hotel will be a tour shop/laundry/SIM card place that only charges +20%. They are usually very reliable as they dont want to fuck over the hotel guests next door.
