9 Tips To Memorize Jazz Standards

Күн бұрынEveryone has their own method of learning songs - myself included.
I've made a list of the things that I do when I'm learning a new song with the intention of being able to perform it and improvise from memory.
Some of these tips are easy to implement, and others not so much - they will undoubtedly help you become a better musician, the same way they have helped me.
It doesn't matter what your main instrument is, basic #piano skills are always going to be the most useful skills you can develop to help you learn more songs, faster and with greater recall.

Thanks for posting this video. Newbie to piano question, sorry: when you say "four note chords in the right hand" at 3:09, you mean root, 3rd, 5th, and 7th?

Starting jazz standards I actually went with learning Sinatras versions and lyrics exactly for reasons you are mentioning. Until now I was thinking I am cheating, taking shortcuts... good to know a professional is doing the same.

Interesting, the walking bass line looks easy. Just need to practice the root left and 3,7 right tho. can’t wait to buy a Piano. Sadly we are no work no pay 🤣 due to Covid 😅. Thanks for these tips, this video will really help me in the future.
