Been a Vegan for 3 years and it is definitely an acquired taste. You can't blame someone for looking at something they don't normally eat in gross way. Imagine if you saw a big bloody steak slab. Paola Ortega Perez I totally get what you mean. My boyfriend is a flexitarian and my mom is completely omnivore. Almond milk is a great start! That's where I started too! I would just try starting to integrate fresh fruits and veggies into the diet a lot more, because most people run away from the word 'vegan' when they hear it, but it's a lot easier than you might think. I thought it would be really hard to switch and cheese was the hardest thing for me to give up too. I only fully went vegan when I was ready to commit to switching to vegan cheese (which are just as good too)! Maybe try picking up stuff like wheat bread, beans, rice and potatoes. Those were really what got me through my transition, and you can get it all for under like 20 bucks!!

As a calm vegan, I greatly applaud this comment. I offer my friends vegan food in hopes they like it and educate them when THEY ask questions. I'm not going to touch on the dairy thing, because it is kind of weird that we're the only species on the planet to consume the milk of other animals, and you're much more likely to find someone that can't digest cow milk than someone that can't digest meat. Basically: We've adapted to be able to get nutrition from meat, which is a pretty solid argument for why we are in fact omnivores. But we can survive off a plant based diet, because there are substitutes for many of the things we get from meat. It's just more difficult to fill in those gaps with plants than if you were to just eat meat regularly. We've adapted to become omnivores, but we can, theoretically, adapt to be purely herbivores. It's, of course, not an excuse for either side of the meat eating argument to act like a dick. Meat eaters that shove it in the face of vegans/vegetarians that they eat meat are as gross as the vegans/vegetarians that go around screaming about rape and torture.

I'm a vegan and they taste pretty good in general; it tastes a bit different from meat and so people ridicule and call it gross but if you just think of it as food itself, it's actually really good. A bit on the salty side, but still good.
