Ironically enough, higher speed priority like Talonflame and E speed mons like Arcanine and Dragonite would be its big weak point.

@@mipho5899 people use shits like fletch in extreme cases. Thats how desperate they are. Dartrix and quax are used just out of necessity but quax is the most used mon but its pretty mid.

I think it's important to note that after the boost, the new Battle Bond is actually stronger and faster than the old form. The real killer is that you lose all the benefits after switching out, which means you can no longer pick up an easy kill early in the game and have a monster at the ready for the rest of the match. Also the Water Shuriken change is kind of unfortunate.

@i can’t think of a name moreso speaking in a vacuum. Blissey, Weavile, Barraskewda, Klefki, Umbreon? All of these are fine Pokémon that can work on their own, there just isn’t much reason to use them when Iron Clumbis with 160 base Attack, 147 base speed, perfect coverage and huge power is the average OU mon nowadays.

@@Squishyboyseth There were lots of nerfs this gen. If this were gen 8 blissey, it would have been decent but no teleport and toxic hurts a lot. There is definitely significant powercreep this gen but a lot of the old mainstays from even just last gen had huge movepool/ability nerfs that explain their drop in viability.

the protean/libero nerf was completely necessary from the day greninja came out to the end of gen 8 but gen 9 is so crazy power crept that cinderace, greninja and meowscarada would still be easy to handle in ou if they had the original protean. without a choice item gren and meow can't ko anything bulky unless its with 2 predicted hydro pumps or flower tricks, and cinderace misses all the time and likes to have boots. if they could go back and change it they should have released protean/libero in the current form and buff it to activating every move for gen 9 lol

I mean they literally made protean type changing impossible during Tera, along with all other type changing methods. So even if it was bugged it would have never been a problem. So I don't see how what you're saying could be the case

it'd be fine tera locks you into that type completely - can't remove your electric tera with double shock or other type changing moves (ie soak), and type changing abilities like protean just fail when that pokemon is terastallized and given type changing moves and abilites exist at all, terastallization stab boosts account for that too - you get stab on your tera type + whatever type(s) you had *immediately before terastallizing* the protean nerf was just a balance change

I understand the logic but none of the pokemon with the ability are particularly good defensively so it could spare you from being koed in certain situations but without stab the firepower would be severly lacking for all of them.

116 is the highest offensive stat for any of them and that is not impressive without stab in current OU.

IIRC that's how it was when the ability was introduced. The guaranteed Protean Kecleon was how I first learned of it and I swear it changed AFTER using a move

That would be fair so that you couldn't just keep racking up kos but still manage great stab damage and battle bond just shouldn't have been as strong as it was. Make those attacking stats like 130-135 ish and it would've been way easier to deal with.

Problem is that it doesn’t stay once you switch out but, more importantly, this boost only happens ONCE PER GAME. That means if you get the boost and switch out, you’ve permanently lost it for the rest of the game.

Battle Bond only works once per battle now, if you get a KO and get forced out because you're locked in you lose the boosts permanently.

It also kinda makes sense that Ash-Greninja is removed from the games since, well, Ash is gone now too And it was sort of like a pseudo Mega Evolution, in the sense of being an in battle form change, just that it required a KO to activate And Megas are long gone too, which is also why it was never coded into Gen VIII either

Seeing as Ash-greninja was banned from competitive regardless and was a fan favorite there's really no justification to remove it. Smogon has nothing to do with the decisions made in the games themselves.
