Seems like a guy answer. It's not always about "resolving a problem", because often problems don't really get resolved. Arguing is showing your partner that you are present in the relationship and that the relationship is secure through conflict.

I like how the interviewer was trying to put his words into Jocko's mouth in the beginning, but Jocko disagreed and immediately took Control over the conversation. He just did "tell me you have been an army leader without saying you were the one"

Marriage is beyond entertainment, it’s a finance and social tie that you are building to someone you enjoy. The secret is to tolerate the defects of your loved one and enjoy the moments you have together the best you can… bad days may come, do not give up on your oath and I hope you can make what makes you both attractive to each other forever. This goes beyond the both of you and expands into the merge of families. Best,

"i'm not looking to win an argument, i'm looking to resolve a problem." Sure, but if your wife is the problem, constantly bottling up all things she do that you dislike, leads to divorce and contempt. Love Jocko, and what he does obviously works for him and his wife (this far), but communication is key between couples. If its not had, one side resents the other because they never get to address what bothers them. I also don't believe for one second that Jocko doesn't tell his wife what he dislikes, I do believe that she doesn't do much of the stuff he dislikes anymore because they've been together for 22 years, so she knows him better than anyone at this point, so naturally he doesn't recollect things they argue on anymore. But there's no way a guy like Jocko Willink is going to be completely docile to the point where he constantly sits on things his wife does that he dislikes. As said above, its probably the case where they don't really do much of what the other disliked because they've worked on it for 22 years through communication.

Stupid advice. He should get back into the water because this kind of thinking will sink any marriage and get you a 100% divorce rate. Women are not about resolution first, a problem can't be resolved without the emotional part. Soldiers are trained to detach emotions and reason. There is only the mission and orders given to complete the mission. Nothing more, nothing less.

Not like a real man to fear communicating with his wife. She should be doing the backstroke when you lovingly stand your ground. If an honest quiet discussion is going to get you cut off from her care (love, sex, food, clean house and clothes) then she has the high ground in an unhealthy way. You're being dishonest with her and yourself and she knows it.

We lived in a military town in 2005-2019. My neighbor was SF, never saw him, his kids were always over with mine and vice versa. One day oldest neighbor boy shared that his mom had divorce papers on table upon dad’s return. This was in 2008. Imagine how psychologically demolished that guy had to be. I will editorialize two things: women must learn to be submissive to their husbands(Biblical command) and divorce must be illegal.

A man's sacrifice is to void himself of emotion to handle the difficult situations in life and become a protector, whether he is hyper emotional or not. He does not let himself get emotional in times of stress, he is stoic, he is strong, he is rooted, he is prepared. A woman's sacrifice is to eventually stop intervening when her child is in need of support, comfort and nurture, and allow her children to fight their own battles and heal, somewhat, on their own, without her support. That's my belief anyway.
