The trick with the generators is that it shares a fuel tank with the engine fuel. There is a natural fuel level cut off for it designed to keep you from running out of fuel for both generator and engine at the same time. If your gas tank senses near or at/below 1/4 tank, the generator won’t have fuel to start or run. Fill up your tank, make sure you change the oils and regular generator maintenance and those onan 4000 will run forever

I'm glad I found this video. I live full time in a rv and in the winter I go to my camper (has a woodstove) the rv back bedroom is set up the same as yours. I kept the bed on the left and turned the right on into a work station. Three moniters and lap top for video and sound editing and base station cb. I bought land and moved both up to the mountains and I use the camper full time and the rv as more of a guest house hang out house. But it isn't very big and the kitchen is nice so I like to cook in that one when entertaining guests. Well now I'm looking at a 1999 south wind Fleetwood that as far as I can tell is the same set up as yours. I was thinking of making it my party bus. Stove is missing so I'd replace the counter so it's one long piece with a sink. Make that a wet bar. The fridge is a beer fridge. Replace the microwave with a air fryer. Hang under cabnit wine glass holders and wine bottle holders add mood lighting etc etc. Then I seen your video and was like damn that looks fun! Tile back splash updated paint vinal floors! I like it. Good work! Just a tip you can un yellow the shower with hydrogen peroxide shrink wrap and uv lights. Ripping it all out sounds like a shitty task.

Yes primarily in Ontario. Precious is a pitbull/boxer. I’ve never had any issues here in Ontario. There are tons of pitties. I have her licensed here and everything. No issues. They repealed that law recently anyways. (Right before Covid hit) Yeah that’s the only thing I would like, is the ability to fit into more places. But I make due. I like the vans, like you have...but they’re so expensive!! Thanks for watching 🙂

Thanks for the comment 👍🏼 I still haven’t done anything with the delamination… oddly enough it only runs around where the dark blue decals are outside. And it’s only visible in the hot weather when it has more flex. During the cooler months, you wouldn’t even know it’s there. I should do an updated walk through. I’ve changed quite a bit. With respect to these older chassis RVs the cooling system (engine wise) is the one item that is often not thought of. It is also the most critical. As for the generator use the running it 1-2 times per month is an old WWII lay over when electricals were far different. If you park to store the RV add some fuel stabilizer to the fuel and then run the generator under load for 20min or so. Done. It will start come time to pull RV out. As for the roof...you have to get up at min bi annually and get on your hands & knees and carefully examine areas around vents, cover/s etc.
@RollingThroughReality
@RollingThroughReality 3 жыл бұрын
Well luckily for me, I don’t have to store or winterize the RV as I live in it full time. Recently I have come to the conclusion that my clutch on the cooling fan is not engaging, or possibly engaging sometimes but not all the time. I’m having it checked this week actually. The genny I agree needs to be run often in order to keep it in good shape. I inspect my roof almost monthly. I will probably add another layer of rubber paint to it this summer for preparation of another rainy winter here in BC. I recently replaced my ac shroud and added max air covers to every vent. Lol Thanks for watching 😎

@@RollingThroughReality if you change the clutch fan you'll need the water pump changed as well. A way to test the fan...with dead cold engine try to spin it. It should not free wheel spin. If it does it's bad. Also use a mirror and check the bi metal coil on the front of it. It should be clean with no crud, mud, dirt etc..If this is a 454 you can remove the lower support pictured in the link I provide for water pump and clutch fan removal (not many shop guys know this) here is the pic of it....www.irv2.com/forums/f65/what-did-you-do-to-your-old-rv-today-133779-444.html#post5713099
@RollingThroughReality
@RollingThroughReality 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for that info!! ...I tried to spin the fan on a cold engine... it turns... not all the way around tho... I don’t know if I’d describe it as “free” spinning... but I don’t ever hear it ...it spins when the engine is on....but shouldn’t I really hear it booing when the engine is basically overheating? I’m not uncommon for the temp gauge to read 220 to 230°F climbing any type of grade. And I don’t seem to hear any extra roar from the fan... 🤷🏼‍♂️ I’ll take a peak with a mirror and see if it’s all gummed up...it wouldn’t surprise me. But I’ve also put 27,000 miles on her and never changed it. I changed all the rad lines and hoses. New fluid. That’s it 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

Hi. Great video, thank you. We are considering buying an older class A so your tips help a lot. Aside from the challenges of maintaining an older model, I had heard some parks won't let the older rigs in. Have you had any issues with that?
@RollingThroughReality
@RollingThroughReality 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Lisa, thanks for watching!! Yes! That is true, however I’ve never really had any issues. That’s more for if you want to park in a park “long term” if you’re just weekending it, no issues. Also, provincial parks don’t discriminate against older rigs. As long as it works, and you’re happy with it, I say buy one!! 🥳🥳

My wife and I will be shopping for a used older RV after the holidays. Owned a Pleasure Way Class B for a short tome but it was just way too small. My late parents had an ‘88 Pace Arrow, 30ft. And it was a perfect size for us. Enjoyed many trips with them with me doing the driving. Dads eyesight and reaction time not so good. Contemplating a diesel. What are your thoughts on them sir?
@RollingThroughReality
@RollingThroughReality 3 жыл бұрын
Diesel is definitely the way to go, especially if you’re wanting to pull a car. The v10 Ford is also a good option if you’re going for gas. Realistically they get around the same fuel mileage. But a diesel will last longer and will pull mountain climbs better. But remember finding someone to service a diesel coach is harder to find and more expensive.
