90-year-old Florida man arrested for helping homeless

Arnold Abbot, a WWII veteran, has been feeding the homeless for 23 years, but he was ticketed Wednesday for breaking a new law. Vicente Arenas reports.

What this 90 year old WWII vet is doing is so godly I commend him for what he’s doing "love thy neighbor as thy self"(mark 12:31). That man is a great guy for helping somebody who don't have no home to go to and those policemen are so shameless for trying to stop that man for giving food to homeless people, they need to be out there taking out crimes, not giving a person a ticket for giving food to homeless people.

@@JDMaya if I was affected by the actions of an elderly gentleman (and I use that word in it's most sincere context) offering free food to rough sleepers, I would politely enquire with him, and look to find an amicable solution whereby ALL parties concerned, are left in a position whereby they are satisfied. I would - and I wish to make this crystal clear in absolutely no uncertain terms - *NEVER,* inform the police, about what he was doing. Simply, and solely for the pure reason, that it is *abjectly* inhumane to punish such an act of unconditional charity. Moreover, I would very much like to believe that I would prefer to make friends with him, and the people to whom he interacts with, by offering charity myself.

You know Fort Lauderdale And Broward County commissioners are so full of it if you go behind the main library in Fort Lauderdale downtown you'll see A-tent city about 100 Homeless live there the reason I know this because I used to live 3 blocks from that library at this guy wanted to be them be my guest help them out in the commissioners really need to clean it up down there the way I see it we should tell these commissioners the put up or shut up

dvferyance i am also wondering why here in the US has too many laws..and a lot of crybaby people here in the US complaining on petty issues in the neighborhood. In my country we can do karaoke singing until 10pm even our neighbors hear it they dont complain. They make too many rules and regulations here that sometimes people can't freely do what they want..too many restricted areas and in the US the police follow civilians..not in my country the police only responds to emergency calls and dont follow people in their car when driving it is absurd..

Well Im relieved, i thought he couldn't feed them at all, the 90 yr old should pick a better spot to feed them that doesn't interfere with beach goers. Maybe a building which has chairs, a more controlled area. I dont think he should be on the beach, or in high tourist trafficking areas, everyone can gain here, no need for friction. Awesome guy, but the homeless can be fed elsewhere.

Lauderdale! Take care of your people and let the good keep doing good and caring for those that you are NOT! What a racket of wasted time and paper work to arrest this man! You should be ashamed ! Mayor Jack has not missed any meals .... maybe he needs to get out there and feed the hungry!
