Ya it’s a lot of work sometimes but that’s just how it is out here, at least we don’t have to deal with the public(customers, or micromanaging bosses) 🤣 My falling partner in this video is an excellent faller, I’ve worked with him several times over the last 5-6 years.

Your work partner was pretty impressed with his heli pad, then proceeded to ripping a board with one hand while sucking down a dart 😂

Bjarne, have you ever had problems with wildlife - bears or cougars - while working in the bush? Do you or anyone else on your crew carry bear-spray or other weapons in the bush?
@BjarneButler
@BjarneButler 2 ай бұрын
Had a coworker get charged by a black bear last winter. He had his chainsaw screamin and it still was growling and trying to swipe at him. Ive had run-ins with bears but luckily the the saw scared them off. I’ve seen every animal in the bush while driving to/from work. Hear multiple stories over the years of guys cutting huge cedar trees in winter/spring that had hibernating bears and they would climb out of the stump after the tree fell or once I heard a story of a bear climbing out of the tree(hole in bottom of tree) and go right between the guys legs as he’s in the backcut. Heard another story of a bear in a tree as it fell, smashed his paw off. Years later a hunter shot a big black bear with a missing paw. Poor bear, musta been painful for a long time till that healed.

Am I correct that the ripping is done with a ripping chain carried along for this platform work? 10 Degree?

They probably use their full skip tooth chain used to fall trees. They're not concerned about losing wood material where a ripping chain saves material.
@beaugalbraith3891

We just use our regular chains. No special angles or anything different. Maybe if you were milling lumber exclusively you could purpose grind/file a ripping chain.

With this steep terrain do you guys call this "vertical logging" and it really helps to be part mountain goat. Take care that slope goes down a long, long way.
