I remember working at a Porsche dealer when the RS America came out. They couldn't give them away despite being considerably cheaper. There was a red one that sat on the showroom floor for months on end. Boy how times change!

Now all these cars are what I refer to as “ankle grabbers”. Because that’s what you have to do to buy one!

If only Porsche gave us a Carrera 4 RS America. That would've been the best of both worlds. 964 PDAS AWD really set apart that generation of 911...

Nice cars and one of very few times that i see authentic 964 RS, and mostly true data. Please let me add 2-3 things: 964 RS 1992 normal street cars are all called touring versions (the AC point is not true). All tourings came with kill switch but without the strap of the kill switch. The drivers who went on the cirquit and all who drove with the race pass had to put the strap on the kill switch in their tourings that they can pull the red handle left side of the stearing wheel (you see it in the N/GT). All 964 N/GT came with one big fire extinguisher in the middle of the passengers side footspace. both cars are fantastic to drive, in the N/GT you sit in the middle of a sound compound.

RSA: Federal safety regulations demanded rear seats with seat belts, if a person could actually sit in the back of a car. So the “rear seat delete” option was not available. By placing a removable storage rack in the back, Porsche bypassed the safety regulation. Clever engineering! Strange, that Porsche introduced rear seats for the last RSA’s in 94…

Their was also the 964 RSR 3.8ltr engined car (a good friend has a speed yellow one), the 964 c4 lightweight that’s absolutely wild at heart, least not forgetting the 964 Jubilee edition. Such a stunning lineup 👌🏿

I remember when the RS America came out. Loved it. I’ve only seen one Guards Red example in person in the last 30 years.

I just recently discovered your channel but I can't wait to watch more videos! THis one looks very professional, great camerawork, nice conversations and very interesting and beautiful cars! But PLEASE lose the obnoxious and loud dubbstep music between the shot, it is AWEFULL and it does not fit the video! Keep up the good work!

Very interesting analysis of the various 964 models. I would have been interested to hear whether the RSA had rolled fenders in the front. I owned #27 (polar silver) and it had rolled fenders, but later cars did not. Only critique on the presentation was the absence of the 964 Carrera Cup Car (US) that was our version of the Euro RS.

What did he mean when he said modern GT3 & GT4 club sport packages have a different suspension setup than a non optioned GT3 & GT4 ? I thought its only the 6 point safety harness for both driver and passenger , roll cage , battery master switch preparation and the larger fire extinguisher ?

I had a '93. There was in reality very little difference between a regular C2 and that car. Limited numbers means collectible means a lot of money.

Interesting video. But I think you are really overselling the RS America. Certainly the whale tail is cool and the manual steering rack significantly improves road feel (I did both to my C2). But let’s be real, the RS America’s biggest selling point is its rarity. One can resto-mod a C2 into a much better drivers car than an RS America at less cost (as I have done with mine).

People say this about many cars. GT350 can be made faster than a GT350R but the R remains the more desirable and valuable car. You can also modify a C2 to be as enjoyable as a Carrera RS..it doesn’t make the RS or RSA any less interesting or valuable.

Ahhh, it hurts to watch these. Many of us have stories of not getting a 9xx years back when affordable and worry free to drive. For me it was a beaut red one for low $20k but someone talked me out of it, too heavy, coil overs are not pure, chunky bumpers, blah, blah. I did have a 993 for a short time but it was an auto in rough condition and I didn't care to keep it. Oh well, the insurance for the six figure valuation and fear of damage would detract from the driving experience now, right?
@964Luftballoon

Only if you focus on those things. I drive my c4 often to work, in traffic, in the rain, autocross, etc. Life is short these cars are meant to be driven. To me a well maintained driver car is much more valuable than one that sits in a garage bragging about how low mileage it is.
@DSC800
@DSC800 2 жыл бұрын
@@964Luftballoon Agree. I've got a 996 6spd that is a high level driver and I'm sure I enjoy it more than I would a new six figure 992 but I'm also the "better to drive a slow car fast" type. Plus I can still work on mine myself, anything newer than a 997, not likely. I'm learning paint correction now and if I did screw it up it wouldn't be the end of the world (but maybe a bad week}.
