Part 4 continues this quilter's journey to hand stitch a 28 flower My Grandmother's Garden quilt by sharing her progress of working on a floor quilt rack.
1. Info found in current quilt magazine for quilting frame
1-800-443-5800
www.hinterburg.com
2. Marking stitch lines
a. mechanical pencils
b. air erasable pens
c. chalk for dark fabric
3. The purple fabric around the edge of the quilt top was scrap fabric machine sewn with larger stitches. The purpose of the 'add on strip' is to make it possible to sew all the way to the edge of the quilt top when on the rack. Sometimes it is necessary to add scrap strips to the backing also-if it is not large enough. Hint: After sewing the the extra strips, press the seams away from the quilt top/quilt backing. This will help prevent stitching into the seam when quilting.

I loved your comment! My sister-in-law called it 'push & pull'. I love quilting by hand and on the sewing machine. There is so much control sizing stitches-and I like them small! Enjoy your quilting!

I've been quiltingfor over 5 years and you are so right about the simplicity of quilting. Too bad I didn't know then what I know now. You're a breath of fresh air. I really enjoy your work. Keep it up I feel I'm visiting a friend who is more than willing to share her talent.

I’ve been searching for hand quilting frames and I’ve found as I live in the uk I don’t have a lot of choice ☹️ your quilt is lovely. I’m currently doing mine using paper piecing. I’m nowhere near at point where I need a frame so I will keep looking and hope I find something suitable 😊 when I need it T x

Do you have a handyman or skill with wood, etc.? Hunt on line for quilt frame directions. That may help you. For many years I used an oval embrodiery rack which was on a stand. I did add supports to the frame and also a couple 4 x 4s to the bottom of the rack to raise it up; I was sitting too low and had to reach up.

@@StephanieKitchens4340 Thanks for the search tips. I have managed to find an inexpensive oval frame on a stand. So hopefully that will do the trick at least until I figure out if I will continue to hand sew my quilts lol T x

Thank you again for a great video. I have tried quilting the way you do but have problems getting the stitches on the back straight, mine are always at an angle. Do you have any advice. Many thanks, Norski.

When I started I noticed the same thing happening . I always try to stitch from left to right in a straight line. I found that holding the needle straight up and pushing down solved the problem. Also I have gradually been able to use a smaller/shorter quilt needle so being perpendicular to the quilt is easier (for me). I would say don't give up. I have sewn this way since the 70's and done over 60 quilts (of different sizes.)
