Best Yzerman interview I’ve heard in a long time
@deBebbler

This sucks. It's like Yzerman is on an apology tour after the TDL. He's doing interview after interview justifying his moves. He doesn't need to. He did exactly what needed to be done. We were better, but we weren't there yet. It was obvious before those Ottawa games. Now we have a glut of juicy draft picks at a time when a bunch of teams are so tight against the Cap, they won't be able to make qualifying offers to solid RFAs. We can trade those picks for established players instead of using magic beans. This off season is going to yield some solid fleecing by Yzerman, who has the keenest eye for trading horseflesh of any GM I've ever seen.

Obviously he doesn’t have to justify any of his decisions, but I think at the end of the day he cares about this city and fanbase and would prefer to keep their faith in him. I take no issue with any of his decision making thus far, but as a fan I do appreciate him taking the time to make himself available to the media and clue the fanbase into his thought process and longterm plan for the Wings.

This interview should let the fans know Stevie is building a contender, he's the right man for the job and he'll get it done, how do I know? I've watched the man get doubted for almost his whole hockey career from the Pete's to GM. Stevie is all about perseverance and getting the job done. Anyone doubt his commitment as a player when he was carrying an all-star team on one leg in 2002? That's what he brings to GM his determination to do what needs to be done, it doesn't have to be pretty it's not all rainbows and unicorns. Stop and remember Kenny Holland, great guy and awesome GM when there was no cap and he could sign the core for long contracts at any price, then he tried that with the cap and middle skill players got big contracts and the only thing it achieved was a false hope playoff run with 1st and 2nd round exists and everyone begged for a rebuild and Kenny refused, then he gave up the reins and Stevie came back and told everyone how it was going to be, never lied. Guess what I am saying is this, I'd rather have an honest GM willing to make the hard decisions and upset fans and can face the fans and explain the decision and why it was right than the GM that is afraid to upset the fans and won't make the hard choices to ice a team that gives the illusion the GM is successful. Stevie is the guy to bring the wings back to the top. It won't always be pretty and he won't always get everything right, but so far so good and remember the wings haven't won the draft lottery tanking and the last generational player ever picked by the wings was the Captain himself

5 first round picks. Heard Vrana was going to demand buyout no matter what. I am no prophet; but I am going to say Steve Yzerman is going to make more than one big move in the near future. There’s no way that many draft picks will be on this team. Move them for established team control assets (superstars that are near or at end of ELC). This team has organizational depth at an unreal level.

Today we have 5 free places out of the 50 allowed that can be filled. There is no chance that we will use all 10 of this year's picks in the draft. I also think we will see a bigger deal if there is a seller to be found, we got picks and tons of young talent in our pipe and cap for it. The offseason will be really interesting too since there are lots of interesting choices to possibly sign, maybe not as many as last year but more a target player of some sort of, you know Stevie Y sort of move.

I understand why he traded Bertuzzi, but i also think if there’s any player to slightly overpay, it should be him. I’m biased as Bert was my favorite wing, but he’s also an extremely rare type of player that cup winning teams usually have. On paper, it made sense for Stevie to trade him, but I’m afraid of what losing him will do to the mindset/attitude/vibe etc of the team. There’s no one on the team that can replace what he brought.

Very true. The way I think about it is 'How many first round picks would I need to find another Bertuzzi?' Sure you can find a player with scoring ability, wins puck battles, and is scrappy.. but having all of these talents in one player is much rarer than a lot of people think.
@chevelle1
@chevelle1 Жыл бұрын
@@frequentsee3815 🎯 Exactly. Just look at Larkins production with and without Bert. The difference is staggering. Raymond, Zadina, Berggren are all good wingers, but are easier to replace than the rare bread of Bert. Stevie has been an inspiration to me since childhood, but even he makes mistakes and I think this is one of them. Bert should of been valued as the core with Larkin and Seider. If Bert flat out wouldn’t sign another contract with Detroit, then I get it, you have to move him, but I doubt that was the case. Larkin being his best friend and stunned by the trade tells me he probably believed Bert was going to sign. Really sucks either way and it’s a step backwards for the team imo.

Stop and consider the last 2 season 3 even, Bertuzzi is all heart and nobody can take that away, Bertuzzi has also become prone to injury because he does play hard, he broke both hands this season, he will be 3rd line and have success in Boston and he'll have toughness around him so it's not just him playing tough minutes. Bertuzzi was a 1st line guy in Detroit but he was never a 1st line guy, Larkin is a great Captain and player and some believe he's 2nd C on any top team. So consider all the variables, I loved Bert in a wings jersey, even in his Prime though he's only as good as his uncle was at the tale end of his career.

I totally agree with you about bert. However, the problem I have with him is he always hurt and not to mention the co-vid shot deal where he could not travel to Canada for road games. He has great grinder-scoring type talent but what good is it, if he is hurt all the time. Just my opinion here.

Yzerman has been acting way too conservative running the Wings. Back in tampa he was making 3 or 4 trades a year. Sometimes the big club, sometimes the minor club. Now he is too timid to make trades in Detroit. I'm talking real trades, not end of the year trade guys for a draft pick. Ottawa blows up their team every 5 or 6 years, yet they are farther along than us. Sometimes you have to move a Seider or or a Raymond if they can net you 2 or 3 players in return. It seems to happen quite often around the league. Just not in Detroit.
