I’ve gone coast to coast, north to south, on Amtrak, but I wouldn’t call it the optimal luxury train, no matter what size sleeper you have. I did notice the same thing you did: I was a while in getting my land legs back after my trip. I’d definitely do it again, though; the train is a unique travel experience.

I remember doing the Canadian twice once in the summer and once in the Winter on those old timings where you left Toronto in the late evening.

The old schedule was fantastic for my area and I used the train lots during univeristy days. The newer schedule was setup to better serve tourists travelling on the train for its departure and arrival times into Toronto and Vancouver. The reasoning is that the train has become a major tourist attraction so they did the schedule to better align with internation flights.

I understand it now arrives after dark with only time tp see the station but not fantastic Forks Market at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine. Too bad. A wasted opportunity.

As a Canadian myself, it’s sad that it’s so expensive to travel canada. I’ve been all over the world and seen the least in Canada. I’ve been to bc and New Brunswick and live in Ontario. Wish to see more. I desperately want to visit lake Louise ❤

@@HyundaiAccentFanClub I haven't made the trip to Churchill yet myself. Though I do recommend spending the extra to get into the sleeper classes. It can be a really long trip in Economy. I have heard that the trip is amazing though as my aunt took that trip last year

It’s is a dream of mine to explore more of the train routes, such as The Canadian! And going to Churchill is definitely on my bucket list !! It is just soooooo expensive !! It probably costs a small fortune to do this, especially with 3 teens … I guess one day !!!

I have a family of 5 as well so I know that pain. When you factor in that it is your transportation, hotel, and meals all in one the price makes more sense but by no means is it cheap. Berths on the Canadian, are a much more affordable sleeper class option and is what I usually target when travelling for the balance in price and amenities

In 1963 and 1964 we lived in Churchill and we took the train a couple times to go back to Edmonton to visit family . Still have great memories of our train ride and how so nice was the porter who helped mom with us young ones there was 3 of us. I would love to do a train trip again.

I also used to take the Coast-light Seattle to Los Angeles a lot. But, I think that service is closed although Amtrak does run that route surely. Thank you for your lovely video.

Do you return to Toronto via Train? I know it takes four days from Toronto to Vancouver so going back is another 3/4 days?

Yeah, except when he said "THE STATE OF ONTARIO" at 10:47! That was when I stopped watching it! Typical ignorant American, can't even educate himself about our Country!

The only thing top end I saw was the bed, that leather couch looked really uncomfortable and the sky dome looked very outdated and uncomfortable. Those seats looked like they were from the 60s. I expected more plush seating. The food looked good but the portions looked really small, not much to choose from. I was shocked at the lack of snow and ice removal, apparently people don't sue in Canada for trips and falls because the area isn't cleared properly. There is no excuse for not sweeping the snow off the steps and all that ice at the stop, what's going on? Is that normal? That's crazy they should salt that, it's not even safe to walk on.

I've driven across Canada about 10 times and I have to say I *love* the prairies and find that part of the country very beautiful.

I have lived in Australia since 1979 (After 9 years US Army), and worked here as a teacher and artist, but grew up in Michigan. On one trip with a big group of Australian Vietnam Veterans in the 80's to attend the Chicago Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Parade... From there I took them in three rental cars to my Dad's home (164 Acres of woods and a great cabin). Hearing those Australians trying pronounce French spelling of Indian names so funny... then we wen't through the Detroit tunnel to Canada as i promised i'd take them to see Niagara Falls ... I used to travel back and forth in the 60's and 70's with no issues... but 7 Australians created such crap problems with customs??? We graved the "Queens Way" to the falls ... then had to drive back to Michigan to drop off the rentals. Then flew back to Australia... I found it funny as Canadians would constantly ask the Aussies; "What did you say" ... I guess as a teacher I'm used to the different accents... I'm guessing both sides were just messing with each other... Love this trip. I'm thinking my Australian wife and I would like to try it going back east??? It looked great... Nice post mate.

The food did look good, what there was of it. The portions seemed really small. It looked like they served the food on salad plates like that's going to deceive you into thinking you're getting more.

You haven't seen Alberta and British Columbia yet. I have travelled in Quebec. I have lived in Ontario. But NOTHING is like the Canadian Rockies in Alberta and British Columbia has a vast landscape from semi-desert to coastal to rainforest. I have also lived in Alberta and BC. I am biased. I will admit. :)

When I read your comment about dreaming of seeing the northern lights I just want to say: Come visit us in Jokkmokk, Sweden, north of the arctic circle. We have northern light all through out the fall and winter period. This year the first one actually appeared already around Sept 25. It goes on all the way into March. I often see it when I take a walk in the evening by our little lake. The best chance of northern light is at Abisko, 4 hours north of us. They even have the Aurora Sky Station on top of the mountain Nuolja / Njullá. They offer evening-night excursions when you take the chair lift to the top, dressed in warm winter gear, and spend a couple hours at the top, hoping to see aurora borealis (northern light) and you eat dinner before taking the lift back down again, some time around midnight. I have worked as a mountain guide in the mountains west of Jokkmokk and have seen some great northern lights there as well as in Abisko whenever I go. But I also often see it just outside of my home in Jokkmokk, where I moved some 14 years ago from Stockholm. So @jackrey2652 I hope you come visit us in Swedish Lapland and enjoy norhtern lights (or midnight sun) in the future. I would love to welcome you in our neck of the woods! And by the way - you can travel by night train, just like Will does. There is a nice, comfortable (however not luxurious) first class car as well as second class, economy and coach, from Stockholm all the way north. If you want to hear about how the northern lights can change lives, here is a video about Chad from New Orleans and how he ended up living in Abisko because of the northern lights (and perhaps also due to the love of his life being Swedish...?!) And if you do come, stop by and have a cup of tea or coffe in my kitchen!
