I can't remember when the driver's window last rolled up and down properly. I put it off long enough. Time to repair it. A new experience! With lush greenery I figured it was a matter of time before I had a few slithery visitors to my home. Check it out!
For guidance for my repair job I consulted Bill at Sparky's Channel. Thank you so much! Bill's channel is here: • Toyota Corolla 1998-20...
For those who asked I create an amazon wish list here it is: copy and paste

@@affordabledesertliving3487 Hi Don, My repair was long before KZfaq had gained much video inventory. I used one I salvaged from a car in a junkyard. The crew at the junkyard gave helpful pointers. Removing the used part served as my practice. I didn't have to put the door back together in the junkyard. The replacement window operator continued to work until we sold the car. Having a KZfaq video would have been helpful. 😎

Great job! If that brittle plastic starts to break again or super glue fails, glue it back again with the super glue and use some fiber mesh or screen layers for strength and some epoxy and brush it on the whole area at a few inches depth on the backside of the repair. Hi Don, great job repairing the window. I have to do that with my 2001 Chevy Silverado. I’m lucky, I guess, it’s the old fashioned “cranky cranky” type, so no wiring harness to mess with. I’ll have to get one of those trim removing tools. Also, on some of the channels I watch they leave their hoods up to deter critters from crawling into the engine compartment. I guess they don’t like the sunlight.
@affordabledesertliving3487

you can get a cheap plastic welding tool from harbor freight , have fixed a lot of broken plastic just melting and welding it back together , great for patching holes in big plastic barrels that someone drilled through , it`s a great cheap investment .

I am not trying to throw cold water on your window motor replacement and I hope it lasts, BUT Dorman parts are known by just about every mechanic as junk. So for any future repairs you might want to seek out another brand.

Ah, the older "scissor jack type". They've been around for decades. I replaced one on my dad's 1968 Chrysler New Yorker in the 70's, and it had that type. A different type of larger motor with brushes in it, so that turned out to be the problem on his, so replaced the graphite brushes in the motor, and it worked again. This year, had to replace passenger motor in my 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan, and instead it had some new god awful contraption in it, NOT scissor jack type. Ordered a Dorman replacement, with crappy instructions, and it was "improved" model, HAH! (/sarcasm) View one on an autoparts site, or KZfaq video! That made it look different enough to the old original, it took awhile to figure which bar on it went to which side and which direction it was supposed to face. An odd contraption with the two bars, a motor with wires on each side of it, and this single steel braided wire, went between the holding bars on each side, making an X pattern between them. My "wire" had been chewed up in the motor. I had been expecting to find similar setup you did, and what I'd seen in '68. The new motor didn't even have torx bolts to hold motor on, but some plastic pop rivets. Hopes that plastic holds. The plastic sheeting on my door wouldn't come off in one piece, it tore up, (probably should have used a hot air blower to loosen the tarlike glue) so I decided to just not install more plastic when putting the inner door panel back on such old vehicle. I also had to replace the door's switch, not expensive. I oiled the channels for the window edges to slide easier in. Not a job I enjoyed since temps were in the 90-95F range with humidity in Florida then.

Wow Joe you deserve some sort of mechanics diploma after all of that drama bud. Amazing. Wow I can imagine the Dodge Company engineers sitting around and just deciding to cobble something inexpensive together for the window regulator/motor for the vehicle. Absolutely horrific. I am no mechanic but even I can tell that thing was designed with too many poorly designed moving parts! Your persistence paid off though!

Ey, Mate! That was fun. "Cryptic" hole was pretty comic. SO impressed, you did it, congratulations! Question: is there a way to know if there is a snake under your hood before you turn the key? Also will rodents/packrats find that apparently very attractive place too?
@affordabledesertliving3487
@affordabledesertliving3487 Жыл бұрын
Hi PM LM. Glad you enjoyed the vid. Snakes normally wouldnt crawl up under the hood for the most part. He was super afraid and hid there cause he felt his life depended on it. So far packrats and others dont bother my car. But then I dont think I have packrats here anyway. Not many rodents overall. Just way way too many rodent eating predators on my property.
