You may know by now that I'm very much a fan of the 996 Porsche 911. Therefore when the opportunity arose to film this 996 Turbo with the X50 Package, I absolutely had to do it.
The 996 is truly an icon of the early noughties - combining the classic 911 feel with huge levels of performance is bound to result in something interesting, and I can confirm it really does. The way the 996 Turbo gathers speed and then carries it, is mighty impressive. It is a heck of an experience to go through the gears, hearing the turbos spool up and then seeing the horizon come towards you at what can only be described as a shocking rate. The Turbo is really something special and undoubtedly a through and through driver's car.
Big thanks to Jonathan for bringing his fantastic 996 Turbo X50 out in the rain to film this video!

Fastest car ive ever been in was a Miami Hurricane Orange Porsche 911. Idk much about it. It was maybe the last year they had an air cooled engine. It had turbos and water injection system that sprayed into the cylinders and a bunch of high end modifications. It was my bosses and it went 0-60 in 2-3 seconds and on the Highway at 50 mph he stomped it and we were at 145mph in no time. It actually had so much G force that you can feel the blood leaving your head. It was amazing. Became a Porsche fan immediately. His buddy has almost the same Porsche that he ran at the Texas Mile and i believe he had 900 or 1000 hp and my former bosses Porsche had 800hp at the wheels. The other one was Silver. Both sounded like Nascars

Little known fact; X50 package along with the K24 turbos (same as GT2), Larger Intercoolers (same as GT2), they came with the GT2/GT3 oil pump with additional stage; thus why it was never a dealer installed option; factory only. Basically it was a 996 GT2 engine.

If you have a hot hatch budget, buy a hot hatch. Reviewers need to stop talking about the 996 as being cheap. A poorly maintained car may be cheap to obtain, but they are not cheap to run or maintain in good working order. The 996 is arguably the best classic 911 generation and it's worth the price of entry if you can afford to maintain the car. Keeping one of these is an expensive hobby that also serves as transportation.

Price is all relative, in the world of 911s the 996 is generally regarded as the 'cheap 911', although I agree in the normal sense that doesn't mean its cheap to buy or run. The title of the video is really just a thought exercise, hot hatches are so expensive these days, it's very interesting what else can be available at the same cash cost. I know where my money would be!

I got lucky and got a rebuilt title 996 turbo (it was stolen back in 2002) the engine was rebuilt 15k ago with the transmission and clutch. Of course with the car being old there has been a good amount of work to do on it but you’d be pretty surprised how cheap some of the parts have been for me. It’s been a daily driver for me. Does it cost more than a economy car of course but as far as a sports car goes it’s well worth it.

@stephenauty2402 no I got it immediately booked in. That was after clutch replaced.. I'm the same. Nothing really compares for the price... I think I'd only change to a newer 911 turbo. If anything

Hi mate, very nice video. I’m also a 996 turbo x50, all factory original, owned for 16yrs now main dealership purchase. If yours is boosting at 1.1 bar it’s modified. Std is 0.7 like you said, x50 is 0.8, and 996 gt2 is 0.9. Good luck mate, great vid.
