Totally respect the fire engine driver; superb driving at speed in the conditions. That grey rental van should have been sent on driver awareness course for blocking you for that long! I’m surprised you’re so disciplined on using your horn in addition to the sirens.

There’s a certain pleasure in watching a Wrl getting her head on the way to a call. Fair play to the driver he kept the momentum up which is no easy thing on a14 ton fire appliance . I used to have to grimace getting caught behind a lighter ambulance attending the same call as you never could carry the same speed through junctions , corners , lights etc and with the best will in the world it took a while to get the speed up again ! Ah happy days !! Retired seven years and still miss the runs on blue & twos. 👨‍🚒

When I see drivers in videos like this who are slow to move I have to think why don't our emergency services have a rumbler siren to get people and drivers to move more quickly out of the way especially if they have loud music or headphones in?

I am not familiar with the case mentioned but assume that a police car hit someone whilst on a call and did not have his siren on. You should note that I use the siren where ever I believe there is a need based on a risk assessment at that time such as but not limited too Slow moving traffic Traffic that may over take 30 mph roads when approaching junctions or hidden drive ways Anywhere where pedestrians are . I won't have my siren on if there is no one to hear it.
@iamadamowen
@iamadamowen 2 жыл бұрын
The thrust of the case was indeed the use of sirens during a blue light response. The road was curved and there was a side junction. A lady pulled out of the side road as she was unable to see the approaching police car and was killed in the collision. The court held that had the sirens been on she might not have done so. I'm just unhappy with the comment "turn them on and forget." There are good reasons why sirens are left on.
@OwenBenGaming
@OwenBenGaming 2 жыл бұрын
Disagree with the “turn them on and forget” however I do agree that many have them on when it’s not necessary, as a response driver myself I only use sirens where my dynamic risk assessment dictates that I do

@jessebella9322
@jessebella9322 2 жыл бұрын
Not really, it is the correct thing to do. The number of problems and accidents closing them off during that time of the day would cause is unreal. First responders had already been there and assessed the situation, cleared the lanes, and finally coned off the area they would be working in, thus making it safe for them to do so. Opening the lanes and keeping them clear and running after having done all of that was the perfect thing to do. Nothing crazy about it.
@kempo_95
@kempo_95 2 жыл бұрын
@@jessebella9322 I would definitely prefer if they close the left lane to create a bit more safe space. And that would also force the traffic to slow down. If someone is not paying attention, and driving slightly on the shoulder, he will drive straight in the back of the fire truck.

@EnjoyFirefighting - International Emergency Response Videos I think we have very different rules here in the UK, as emergency responders we still have to give way at red lights. I did not have a good enough view to continue through the red light without slowing and checking it was safe to continue. Regards the three appliances at the incident, we have a pre determined attendance for this incident type, as it was on a motorway our safety procedures require a minimum number of personnel to implement safety procedure hence the number of appliances attending......
@EnjoyFirefighting
@EnjoyFirefighting 2 жыл бұрын
@@EmergencydriveUK sure you have very different regulation when it comes to emergency responses, it's always a bit odd in the UK (just my opinion). I have no issue with the number of apparatus at all. Just surprised to see no apparatus which is specificly upgraded or seperately designed to block off highway incident scenes and manage the traffic flow. If not a seperate truck or trailer, the minimum I'd expect are rear-facing message boards, fold-up traffic warning signs on top of the fire truck or sth similar. In my village of 10k inhabitants the local volunteer FD will send out multiple apparatus for an accident scene on the higwhay as well: usually the Chief Car, the Engine to be the only one actually working on scene, then the Tanker with traffic safety trailer and the Heavy Rescue Truck with the 2nd traffic safety trailer to block and cone off the scene. I also like the Swedish approach where close to every modern Engine, Tanker, Pod Carrier (prime mover) and even some Aerials have a fold-up traffic warning sign on top of their truck as they don't pull any traffic safety trailers like in Germany; Now also the first TMA equipped fire apparatus are in service there

@@EnjoyFirefighting Wow, that's some great kit you have on your trucks. We are lucky to have a small popup sign to put out AFTER we have closed the lanes. @EnjoyFirefighting
@EnjoyFirefighting 2 жыл бұрын
@@EmergencydriveUK you mean the small tripod-based signs? Better than nothing but in my opinion not suitable to secure an incident on a highway. A video I made a few years ago, driving down a highway and approaching an accident scene: first you see a van with fold-up arrow board on the roof standing on the shoulder, acting as pre-warner. Then way further down the road an Engine with attached traffic safety trailer blocks the right lane and directs traffic onto the left lane; THe arrow board of the trailer is set up and thus is taller than any type of fire apparatus around, making it very easy to spot from a greater distance even if you're approaching at high speeds. Pls just ignore the slow driving snow plow ahead of me in the left lane, it has no meaning to the on scene procedures and safety procedures there: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sJ9mjayis9u-oGw.html Also worth watching: another video with such a traffic safety trailer put in place; Additionally the Engine placed a traffic safety cart with a small arrow board on the right lane; Besides the hose cart hanging at the rear, a traffic safety cart with cones, warning lights and sometimes a small arrow board is common on modern Engines and Rescue Engines at most departments here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b6eiiJxhxr-xf5c.html Swedish approach as mentioned before. Every large fire apparatus on scene had such a fold-up traffic accident warning sign on top, both the two Engines and the Pod Carrier / prime mover: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q9iIjZeGzrDVd2Q.html

@@marccarter4469 can't blame them; Emergency Drive UK also explained that it has to do with their own safety to send out a certain minimum number of apparatus. Apart from that sometimes the caller hangs up, or the information on the incident came in via a third party e.g. calling police and then they informed integrated Fire & EMS dispatch, or it was reported via eCall or automatic crash report systems from the vehicles involved without any information being transfered on how the scenario is like. Even if they have direct contact, a caller might have difficulties to actually describe the scale of the incident ... it's not uncommon that the scenario he describes sounds like the most serious horrific crash and once crews arrive on scene it's hardly more than a fender bender. 2 years ago I had an incident which pretty much repeated itself yesterday: accident with two school buses. Two years ago it was 2 school buses and electric car in between and it was reported that the school buses were full of people; Yesterday one school bus ended up in the ditch while the other one overturned, again expected to have lots of passengers. Luckily in both scenarios both buses together had only ONE passenger on board. The initial response however was according to an expected mass casualty incident.
