I respectfully disagree i found that condescending obnoxious and unhelpful. The OB literally told him why she had to do a C section and he still felt like he knew better. Also, IN WHAT UNIVERSE is what he said gonna magically help the surgeon do better? He is a neurosurgeon with a PENIS and he didn’t like that the OB challenged him, so he acted like an ass. Meredith didn’t ask him to do that, that was him protecting his fragile ego. If they listened to him and his son died like the OB said, his ass would’ve tried to blame her or he’d go on a shame spiral.

thegirlfrom wonderland I get both sides - he has a rep for being arrogant and ‘my way is the only way’ but this is also somewhat of a miracle baby for them

I don't think he's a tool but I find it weird that people actually _like_ how he's acting or even find it romantic (!!). I would find it super annoying but I would forgive him because he's so scared.

Oh I did found him to be a major tool in this scene, for a few reasons: 1) While you think being a surgeon helps in this situation, it actually makes Derek a shitty caregiver. The OB is running point and he’s still trying to supersede her. While he gives the impression that he’s doing it because he’s scared, it comes off as because of his arrogance and wanting to control everyone. 2) The OB never demonstrated that she was incompetent. The OB very clearly told Derek why it was better to do a C section because of how the baby was effacing, but it didn’t matter Derek just kept saying I think we should do vaginal (with no explanation). She even illustrates to Derek that this was an emergency and he wasting her time in order to explain to him. She made the call that was safest for Meredith and the baby, and Derek didn’t like being challenged. 3) Saying “don’t mess up” helped absolutely no one. Not only did Meredith not ask him to do that, he was getting in her face while she’s trying to operate. He would never do that to any other surgeon. 4) The OB was never the villain, but Derek talks to her as if she is. They were already in a catastrophic situation (that she did not cause), and she made a call that was taking the baby into consideration. Consider that Derek has talked to other surgeons when his loved one is on the table and he’d say “please watch out for her” or “please be careful” but for some reason, Derek just labeled this woman who delivered the baby the villain. 4) This last one May sound like a stretch, but unfortunately as a POC it did come off this way to me (and despite your feelings on this, I still independently stand by the first three): A confident black woman HE DIDNT KNOW (difference between her and Bailey or Richard) challenged him and he didn’t like that so he acted like she was being aggressive. She wasn’t. She did her damn job and they treated her poorly. (And honestly, I don’t necessarily know if DEREK would have a race problem, but the WRITERS who wrote that scene DEFINITELY do). She did nothing to deserve that. All in all, from my POV this was not Derek protecting Meredith. This was him being a dick and making it about him.

I mean I agree, don’t bully your fellow doctor but sometimes when it’s your own relative, you forget how to act like a colleague and you become any typical relative of the patient, so I think his reaction was pretty reasonable. It’s his wife who he has nearly lost too many times, and it’s their first biological child after a miscarriage and fertility issues so I think it’s normal?
