In this podcast, we talk to former US Ambassador Charles Freeman about who controls US foreign policy. We start with his provocative claim that Israel is not a US ally and his argument that Israel has been a liability for the US instead of an ally. We asked him what factors influence the trajectory of US foreign policy. We then discuss Israeli atrocity in Gaza placing the conflict in the larger politics of the Middle East. We also asked him about the divisions within the Arab and the Islamic world in the Middle East. We also discussed the West's continued hostility to Russia. Freeman argues that Europe should build its own defense system and become independent from the US. We feared this would further widen the asymmetry between the West and the Global Majority. Freeman denied it because he argued that the long-term domination of countries in the Global South with military force is more or less over. Finally, we concluded by asking what made him empathetic to people, despite being a high official within the US state. He said that realpolitik must have moral limits.

Link for donation: paypal.me/sankymudiar Guys, we want to work full-time on this, but our financial woes keep us pushing away. If your wallet allows please drop us some support. We prefer the PayPal method since we don't lose half of the money, but you can also give us a super chat. If you are a large donor, we would obviously get in touch with you to give something back if we can. But if you can't no worries. Please subscribe, share, and like. That means a lot already.

@@uptownbayarea6068 Chas Freeman was never a diplomat in Israel. Ambassadors are the spokespeople for their governments and are therefore limited in what they can do. I agree with Mr Freeman for a lot of things but not about Europe. As a French woman, I can tell you we feel America as a burden that keeps us in the state a colony. And the Yougoslavian crisis was not our responsability but America's. We would be delighted if America would let us deal with ourselves and stop interfering with our politicians. Actually, we're dying because of American hegemony through the European Union. Don't consider Poland and France have the same interrests, for example. There is no such thing as European interrests as a whole.

Really like and respect Chas Freeman. But regarding the conflict in Ukraine and apropos of his statements at the end of the interview regarding interest and values, I think it apposite to state that the Ukrainians have a strong interest in independence, imbued by the values of self -regard and self-respect,. This is true regardless of the “meddling“ of, western powers and missteps by NATO. Chas of all people should know of the deep repression of Eastern Europe by the Soviet Union. This historic memory infuses the resistance and sacrifices of the Ukrainians and other European people. Putin desires Russian expansion. As a nuclear armed state it was under threat from no one. Yes, the West has egg on its face, just as it did, to a much greater degree, when it imposed a reparations regime on Germany after World War I.

We must investigate the political system, which is where the rulers and congressmen come from. In the case of the USA, a large number of candidates, for the executive and congress, from the two dominant parties, have emerged thanks to the support of the Israeli lobbies. In other words, lobbies look for possible candidates that fit their convenience to support them by giving them coverage, support and funds so that they can then work for their interests. Even part of the strategy is to have information that allows them to blackmail them if they do not collaborate.

Also I would say that perhaps some of the Israelis who are leaving are conscientious objectors, but probably the vast majority of them are daul passport wielding and fairly well off, and don't want the genocide to tarnish to their reputation/simply seeking out a higher quality of life and moving bc they are afraid of the potential for this one-sided slaughter to actually trigger consequences if other neighboring countries decide to seriously attack Israel in response.

Excellent comparisons from Amb. Freeman on South African apartheid and Israeli apartheid. This is very much needed. Watch it.

Perfect analysis. How true. How tragic. Why do we elect useless politicians like our reps? Why?
