In all wars since WW1 the greatest killer on the battlefield is artillery. We've moved from rifles accurate up to 1000m, then to assault rifles accurate up to 800m and now most armies use service rifles accurate up to 500m. Even when it was just bolt action rifles they would just shoot in the enemies general direction. So now we just issue most men with lightweight rifles more suitable for urban warfare, as we're not likely to engage in large scale deployments over open terrain anymore and men will just fire away anyhow.

To anyone who still doesn’t get it: The MG wasn’t trying to specifically neutralise the enemies, he was trying to keep them down and restrict their ability to fire back so the A-10 could come in with air support. That’s what “Suppresive Fire” is. It’s meant to *supress* the enemy. Also, they were defending, which means that they weren’t in a position to push forward or anything like that, because if they did so in that kind of circumstance, chances are, the whole squad would be dead in the dirt before the A-10 even arrived on the scene.

**For those who are unaware and think this soldier is just really bad at aiming:** He's a squad gunner. His role is to provide sustained fire support/suppressive fire for his guys. That doesn't necessarily mean that every round he fires needs to actually hit the target. In fact, it's perfectly acceptable if he doesn't actually hit anyone(if he does, awesome). All that really matters is that he's getting rounds in close enough to the enemies that they keep their heads down so the riflemen can maneuver around and deal with them. Also, a few people I've seen think he's not even aiming down his sights. Just remember that the camera is mounted off to the side of his helmet.

I'm actually trying to educate someone in another video about how real war is not what you watch on Hollywood. The snowflakes will never get it. They think it's all big bombs and fire balls and guns are really loud and deafening like in the movies, and people are shooting at each other from 20 feet away. I can't tell you how many videos I've seen of battles in Iraq or Afghanistan and the idiots think they're shooting the dirt when it's really just the air burst from the gun blowing dust in the air.

It’s pretty insane. A 1-second burst from an A-10 is firing 65 “bullets” (technically they are cannon rounds), each of them wider than an inch in diameter. 30mm = 1.18inches in diameter. Take a ruler out and hold it up against your hand to see how big that bullet is. And the firecracker sound you’re hearing is not the rounds hitting the ground. You’re hearing the crack of the sonic boom left by the rounds, since they are traveling over 2200 miles per hour when they exit the cannon. Also certainly some trees getting smacked. When a pilot fires that weapon, they say it feels like the whole jet is shaking itself apart. The A-10 is my favorite military weapon of all time because it’s just so damn bad ass.

Exactly every time my friends say something about an A-10 i have to explain 1:its not a plane with a gun its a gun with a plane 2:The A in A-10 stands for attack plane ao the A-10 is not build for dogfights its built for ground support and stuff 3:It usually takes like 20 minutes to explain this to them
@srteach705 жыл бұрын
So true. Douglas Fairchild literally designed and built the airframe around the gun. The plane originally had a tank killer role. That is why the engines are in the location the are, why the fuel is where it is and why the pilot is in a titanium tub. The plane was built before the military forces asked for it, and Fairchild had no one to buy it when it was designed and first built.
