In this video I mistakenly stumble into a mating sequence that makes me look better at chess than I really am.

2:23 "I might have a way to trap the queen" The first time the queen came to h6, Rh8 trapped the queen because the white knight blocks the queen's escape route
@original_numbskull9307
@original_numbskull9307 13 күн бұрын
This doesn't work. After black goes Rh8, then Ne6. Then, its just a queen trade after Rxh6 and Nxd8. You don't win material that way either; if you try Kxd8, then Bxh6. The only way to avoid losing the black queen is to move it to either b6 or a5, and then the knight has moved, so white's queen to e3 or d2. The queen wasn't lost.
@JamesHickman-ow9tr
@JamesHickman-ow9tr 13 күн бұрын
@@original_numbskull9307yes it does, but it is just a pawn. After Ne6, black plays Qb6, attacking b2. If white moves the queen, which they will, black takes on b2. However, black move the d7 knight beforehand to attack the knight and prevent the fork on c7. Even though black gains a pawn, white is still up material and has much more piece activity, so they are winning by a lot.

Man, that was me in 500-700 range the whole time. I don't know if we fight ourselves, or just everyone is really desperate in that range, but its very tough. I've played people in the 500-600 range that just controlled me from the start to defeat and I never had a chance. Other times its like they didn't have a clue. You never know what you're going to get. It does seem to get a little better past 700, but I don't know why.

@alphadoughnut2651

As someone who used to be there, this is not the reality at all. The reason it feels this way is when you hang 4 pieces on the first 12 moves. Force a 700 to win smooth from start to finish to finish and they will make some blunder in the next 20 moves. They just will they do every time it’s insane.

2:03 i got so upset when you didn't take his queen. if you can't see it, you could have moved rook to h8, trapping the queen. the best move for white is to take your rook to try to even out the material loss as much as possible.

The queen trap he thought the opponent would do wasn't even possible
@clousdy5464
@clousdy5464 16 күн бұрын
Believe it or not that actually doesn't work. The queen is trapped yes, but white immediately strikes back with knight to e6 attacking black's queen and also opening up the queen's escape. So if black doesnt take the queen and moves his queen to a safe spot, white retreats. If you take the queen, white takes yours back with the knight with a discovered attack on your rook so you cant just take the knight with your king and be up material. But yeah i doubt white would see all that tho lol
@am-wt3gl
@am-wt3gl 15 күн бұрын
Rook h8 would only result in a lost exchange for black. Knight e6 in response to rook h8 will pick up your queen, followed by king takes, would leave your rook hanging to the bishop on c1. Nice idea but white would have taken a queen and rook in exchange for their queen and knight. Losing exchange for black, not to mention he is too cramped, and the king is extremely exposed to whites minor pieces.

This was hilarious the same shit happened to me when I started out. If you want the tip that helped me progress a lot, it’s not to play too defensive. The more moves you play solely with defense in mind, the more your opponent gains tempo while executing their plan, and you are shit outta luck because none of your pieces are threatening, they are only defending. Keep studying and play on!

1:25 queen was trapped and if he attacked your queen you could’ve just moved it.
@vincentpeer5188
@vincentpeer5188 17 күн бұрын
I’m not so sure about that. The queen is temporarily trapped. But any move he makes to attack it will also free it. He needs another piece over there before white can move the knight on f4. Which he can’t get, because the opponent will make that move immediately. I don’t have an engine to analyze this with. But I actually think he made the best move in the position.
