Ignoring slightly malnourished late-borns may significantly lower the survival-past-4-weeks in the wild (disease during rainy cold nights, that happen within 3 weeks). predators-in--the-wild tend to pick-up-to-eat the heaviest babies first after scaring away all adult cats, only able to steal one baby at a time, ironically giving the smallest last-born the highest survival chance for being the-worst.takeaway-meal with 3-ish predators. In the wild, its rather common that 2 of 6 get sick within 4 weeks, and mom either abandons or eats them, rather than risking a spreading disease. Don't know about cats, but when dogs do something like this it is because the mom senses there is something wrong with a pup and they are rejecting it for some reason. Don't know why your cat did this. She probably doesn't know either. I'd probably just put the kitten back in with the litter and be done with it.

I think she was in the process of moving the kittens. Mama cat can take awhile doing that as they end up having to take care of the kittens in two different locations in the process
