It comes from the Afrikaans culture. They say Oom (uncle) or Tannie (auntie). It is respectful.

@@salzwell25He's Afrikaans, yes, however it generally is in our culture in South Africa, not just Afrikaners-- even as Black South Africans, we've always done it this way. We address anyone who is older than us as uncle/aunt/mama/papa, etc. It's disrespectful to address elders by their first name.

His so respectful. I like how he kept saying thank you uncle. You can tell that he had a good upbringing by the way he speaks. His going threw a rough patch now, i hope his able to find a job or extend his business soon. We not even into summer and yesterday was 38 degrees a cooler box and dry ice will help him alot if he has to continue doing this.

@@VioletJoy south african humidity is over 90% sunscreen melts of the face and even scalp gets wet and like you washed your hair. Some people set up little tent stalls or carry an umbrella. We have to carry water bottles and face towels with us whenever we out cause we sweat so much and get dehydrated when we out for a few minutes and there are so many elderly who are out the whole day selling stuff

He said when asked what BI could do for him he needed a job, it truly breaks your heart. He isn't lazy he just hasn't got a job he's down on his luck. His face is so red where he's light skinned I am afraid he will have a heat stroke.. Thank you. BI you guardian angel for your help. He will make good use of the money I am sure.

People of the rest of the world, don't get confused by him calling BI uncle...uncle. he is an africanised white guy. In Africa, anyone older than you, or closer to your parents age, you call them uncle. The respect level remains high because you've put that person on the same level with your parents. That's what we are taught in Africa.
