As a person who is also getting into Tekken in the last few months, the main thing I've been told while it be my older brothers who whoop me in the game, or people online. Patience is key, my thing was I was getting caught while trying to press against people's combos (a good bit of mashing there too, trying to unlearn mashing) and spacing. I'm glad you decided to look for pokes and more about your character! I would like throw in there as a bit of advice, dunno if its gonna serve you well is incorporating how YOU play the game, BnB's are awesome, but how you play Fahkumram also makes the character. Throw in some grabs, as well as learning Counter Hit combos, getting used to side stepping and whatnot. Like you stated in your video as well as TMM, take a break, whether it be a day or two, or a couple of weeks, Tekken will be there if you decide to come back. 😎👍

nice gameplay some advice is that when you do df14~32 with fah (the ending of your combo) then run or dash up then do it otherwise it won't count if the redness of the healthbar goes away then its not counted as a real combo but rather a float if you mash 3 or 4 you can techroll out of it but what you did is float and oki which isn't bad but generally you would want to kill your opponent as fast as possible without giving them a chance to retaliate good luck

fahkumram is useful when it comes to walls so whenever you're near to the wall, try pressing F324~3(hold) or 3 4~3(hold) or 4 3~4(hold) it will break the opponent guard so that you can do b+3+4+2 OR rage drive and using 3 4~3 it has a +14 frame advantage so it will be useful in rank matches, offline matches, tournaments etc.

Just a heads up on fahk, without the initial dash after the 34~4 screw, df1 , 4~3, 2 isn't natural and therefore isn't guaranteed. Anyone who's got a read on tht can easily block low and punish you heavily for tht. I suggest just going for something simple like a ff21 or a simple f1+2 as an ender. But then again some players do intentionally drop their combos just to mind screw an opponent.
@tjm_tk
@tjm_tk Жыл бұрын
you just have to do a really deep dash after the screw so the df1 hits, he just forgot to dash. I'm doing it in practice mode now. but using df1,4 to screw and then doing it is way easier and only does 1 dmg less (70 instead of 71).

Great idea with this video, since there are so many high level tekken online and little to how about starting your adventure with the series. Even tutorial vids only tell you to go for difficult stuff since "Its optimal". Coming from the same background I had really similiar struggles with this having no reference that normal people dont get to high ranks after 11 matches like everyone on YT. Too bad no one told you in the beginning of your journey that learning movement is the most important thing here and that it is nothing like any other fighting game. Keep up the good work!

Interesting video! I got a couple bits of advice. 1. Identify your key moves. Most characters can create a functional gameplan using a total of around 10 moves total. It helps reduce your mental stack and focus more on your opponent. Tekken Library has a whole spreadsheet for every character in the game gnat identifies these moves. 2. Use safer, faster moves. Something I noticed is that you tend to press slower, commital buttons. Moves like 1, df1, and moves with crushing properties (evasive moves), are going to be a god send. 3. Your opponents, especially in lower ranks, are going to be mashing. Using moves like df1 as a quick mid check, or CH launchers like magic 4 will shut down their mashing and let you rake in BIG damage. Let them do the work for you. 4. Tekken has a LOT of gimmicky bullshit. Lucky Chloes low mid kick spam, laws junkyard, etc. When faced with something like that, don't get tilted. Instead, try to identify what exactly is tripping you up, and then counter it. Usually comes in the form of low parrying, or sidestepping. You seem to be on the right track so far, and I can't wait to see how you improve! Plus I'm always down to lend a hand if you want a training buddy. Cheers!

Fahk is a good first char. you have to keep in mind the devs nerfed his frames heavily, so kater in ranks he wont be as good as against newbies. i recommend you to check the character u want to learn, their top 10 moves. these moves give u a general idea how to play with the given character. for example fahks 3 is one of his best move

in tekken the best thing to first learn is punishing moves and trying using them after you block ANYTHING, start from trying using 10f punish if it hits memorise, try using 12f on that same move and so on and so forth, i mean bnb combos are good aswel, but every time you press df2,3 opponent can duck the second hit and launch you instead

my thinking is that when a player learns to dic jab effectively, assuming all the pre-requisite knowledge like combos and general character knowledge, that's the entry of competitive play. Cuz damn I remember anything below genbu would be stumped with just pressure then dicc jab or stopping their pressure with dicc jab. From there then the game gets kinda fun.

Tekken 7 was my first "serious" fighting game. First one I took online (mostly cause there was nothing to do other than bad arcade mode and treasure battle). I did playseveral games before (Shadow Fighter and MK2 port on the Amiga, PS1 games like Tekken 1,2,3 or Toshinden, pc version of MK9 and SF4 I found in a supermarket discount bin etc.) but I never really bothered to learn anything. So I guess my experience was kinda similar. I was playing Kazumi and my 1st month win rate was about 10%. Yes, I kept a tally. :D I'm still bad but decent enough to get to orange ranks and Tekken also made me expand into other games (MK11 and Strive and in future I plan on trying SF6) and yes, the journey's been frustrating at times but it has also been great at other times. Like, I do feel like I've actually improved a lot in games in general thanks to doing fighting games. Funnily I spent years trying to first get to green ranks and then to yellow... only to hit orange fairly easily when I got back into the game after Evo because I was stressing too much about rank. But since I started Strive on 2nd floor and managed to climb to 8th floor (first with I-No and then again with Baiken after I got knocked back to 6 when I started playing her) and even defeated some 10 floor players, I felt like I didn't have anything to prove with with hitting a specific rank in Tekken... and bam, suddenly I'm in orange ranks... aaand then I started caring about rank again cause someone said "only 2 ranks until Genbu" aaand that sent me back to the greens :D Either way, game is fun and it's so nice to see new players are still joining (you even fought someone with 0 wins as your first match). Here's hoping Tekken 8 is great.

Fun video to watch, love seeing newbies be frustrated with the game, its.. nostalgic in a way. Never ever use b1 in neutral, very punishable and it's only used for punishment. At 19:15 "time to find some pokes I could use" next clip starts with 3. I FUCKING KNEW IT! Don't use grabs for now, but if you have to only use df1+2 since it's difficult for newbies to break, while the 1+3 and 2+4 are often broken accidentally.

Underrated tip - Grind in TREASURE BATTLE on highest difficulty. It’s the best thing to use as a simulation for Online fights imo, you’re gaining so much character information both yours and your opponents. Gives so many realistic situations to practice your punishing, counters, combo carry, mixups EVERYTHING. Even if it’s easy at first the AI gets much harder as your Rank increases which is perfect. You’ll gain so much confidence and experience. Also please poke check more, I know combos are the ish but Poking your opponent to death is also quite rewarding 😂 oh and Grab a lot more too they add a ton to the mind games. GGs bro.
@AT_BASE
@AT_BASE 9 ай бұрын
Na doesn’t matter the difficulty in treasure battle, you just wait and they’ll run at you and you can launch as they approach. There’s 100 moves for each character they’ll throw out and 5 of them will be truly relevant in the low levels. Playing that way won’t get you far online. It’s faster to play people, see what moves are most used by real people for each character, in what situations, and then lab those and be prepared for them. Then repeat for a couple decades and boom- you’re mid level at tekken 👍

just a lil tips if you were to ever play the game consistently as fahk, the df1 faint into 4,1 for ending combo, you have to connect the df1 first on tailed opponents, it require to dash forward first to connect de df1, when the combo hit reset it basicly mean that the oponent would have an opportunity to actualy do something, so when you connect the sweep and combo get back to 1 you actualy missed the combo. also i'm not fond of 2d versus fighting and i don't know if the frame data is as important in these, but in tekken knowing yours, and as much as possible of the usual move of every wharacters frame date is basicly the gap to pass from casual to intermediate player imo. also mixups obviously, i realy like not finishing the 3,1,4 string, it space pretty well and opponent either expect 2 mids or one low and usualy don't react agressively to that, it break the pacing and is realy effective at my level of play right now (24th dan) to push people into mistakes, 3,1 into a sidestep 4 usualy works wonder, kinda cheesy, but people tend to jab check a lot when they don't know so they get stepped out and launched.

From the perspective of someone coming from 2D fighters to Tekken, Tekken has a lot of moves that emphasize LP + RP and LK + RK... so while it takes some relearning, I personally recommend inverting your 2 and 3 buttons. Because most of SF/KoF have this focus on same-strength buttons for mechanics (LP + LK for instance), it's far more natural to translate this with the 2 and 3 inverted; whereas without that, all you're getting from those inputs (without the inversion) is your two throw variations. It's uncommon, and kind of unpopular perhaps, but it'll carry you a long way with more advanced moves.

Punishment is everything. Focus on punishment and movement before combos. Understanding high crush/low crush, power crush, sidestep, back dash and those sorts of things are much more valuable than B&Bs in the beginning. Once you understand move properties you'll understand how different strings tie together and how combos are built/why they work or don't work. If you can consistently block/step your opponent and punish, it doesn't matter how much damage you can do with a combo. Otherwise you're just memorizing cheat codes for a game you don't know how to play yet.

I agree I actually think learning combos, particularly the optimised ones is a noob trap. They're pretty high level things that only have a use once the fundamentals produce their desired effect. I will say though, i think learning strings is quite important, purely because it makes the player go from mashing, to actually knowing what buttons actually do what with their character. But tbh i think the most important thing for new players to learn is actually how to defend. Hyper aggression works well at the lower-to-intermediate level because everyone is mashing and gets beaten up, but knowing how to successfully defend actually gives you way more time to learn about your opponent and stops you losing the match.

if you use the term "links" that are similar to street fighter then there is absolutely no links in tekken, cuz aside from some very special ocasions you dont need to time your inputs, the buffer is large as hell, you can just mash the next needed inputs 90% of the time

something you can improve on is mostly just frames and being more aggressive as a fahk player. something ive noticed is that you play rather passively with fahk and not properly utilize his 50/50s (mixups). another thing ive noticed is that you arent punishing the other opponent properly. learning all about the frame data is very important. when you blocked the law's snakeedge (that one slow low attack), you couldve launched that law and start a combo. a few subtle things that needs to be changed is your usage of rage art. like the other comments say, try not to rely on rage art as much. use rage drive within your combos are just use rage drives to keep the opponent guessing. Try using your jab strings more often too. you can attack the opponent a lot more safely without risk of being punished and you can sometimes even chip off some of the opponents health bar. Dont also forget to play patiently and keeping your composure. very vital to winning matches. movement is also quite important. i noticed you dont backdash or sidedash very often. side dashing can be used to get yourself out of an awkward position and back dashes can be used to make the opponent miss sometimes and you can get in a sneaky punish.

When you searched those bread n butter combos, I think you missed the part that you need to dash after your opponent is tail spinned to connect your combo further, not doing d/f 1, 4~3, 2 at the same position

As a Tekken player, I might be biased but I think Tekken is another level of dedication. It takes a loooong time and hours on hours to get even relatively decent at the game.

@@yoshitsune5691 I know how you feel bro. I was stuck there too. What helped me was actually labbing matchups and movement. Also making sure you are still having fun with it. Most important thing for me was just enjoying the game and learning diff characters. This helped me move past blue ranks.

The problem ain’t the noob, but the rather old average playerbase that’s already been playing since the earliest of tekkens time. Me and my brother have been playing since Tekken DR on PSP back then, followed by 5 for PS2, then 6 on PSP again and then 7 on PS4

There's also the argument to be made that "top tier picks" really don't matter when you're a beginner because you're still not at that level where you can abuse what makes a Cartain character better than the rest of the cast

If you new to Tekken I would advise you to try basic character like Kazumi and learn fundamentals. And don't try to combo every time. Use her pokes like Jab, df1, db4, d3+4, etc. She doesn't have many launchers, but magic 4, hop knee and ff4 will do the job. Also learn wall combos and don't forget about mixing trows. Don't forget to punish, especially when you block lows ws44 is your safe option if you don't know opponents frames.
