The builds in this game are so rewarding. It's so nice having the freedom and ability to make builds that actually matter and are complex, unlike every other game these days that give you a few different types of colors of AOE and damage types every 2 levels, and 2 out of your 3 options suck ass so everyone does like 2 main builds for each class and that's it. I hate it when skill trees suck.

Idk if you played DOS 2 but i definitely feel there is alot more freedom in build making there. Granted its not tied to DND rule sets and als not limited to 12 levels. Cannot wait for Divinity Original Sin 3 larian put on hold

@@Bdubs-ns7nnMy issue with DOS2 is a lot of its build freedom is an illusion. Most of what you do is damage, mixing stats is self-gimping, and so many skills in the game are just sadly worthless. Larian has learned a lot since then

Alright, I tried this build a bit and... It feels great to cast hold person + attack at the same turn with a guaranteed crit, plus you have the added benefit of stunning an enemy. HOWEVER, to deal any damage at all with this build you HAVE TO cast every single turn, which means you will be burning through spells slots and sorcery points like crazy. For this build to work I felt forced to invest 9 levels into Sorcerer, otherwise I would be running out of spells slots really fast. A 7 sorcerer 5 rogue actually deals decent damage, but I ran out of spells slots extremely fast, and again you HAVE to cast every single turn with this build, so yeah, 9-3 feels like the way to go. Problem is, with 9-3 even with garanteed crits since your sneaky attack is so nerfed you barely deal more damage than a pure rogue on non-crit attacks, that is if you deal more damage at all(I didn't do the maths myself) and you also end up being extremely squishy since you miss out on the rogues defensive passives later on. So yeah, I feel like at that point you'd be better off just playing a full rogue for damage or a support type sorcerer. All that said it still feels extremely fun to play, just not as strong as some of the meta combinations, but probably still better than arcane trickster as promised xD

Lol thanks for taking the time to play test it. When we messed around with it we felt that it was more fun than an arcane trickster. That being said, we also don't think arcane trickster is a very good subclass either lol

Arcane trickster is a rogue first and a caster second while this build is a caster first and rogue second. AT level 9 is golden with scrolls and later on stealing scrolls is like guaranteed so you just have the best spells for free and impose disavantage on them on top of big sneak attack. What not to like?

Here is the plan. At least 3 lvls for thief. And 4 lvls In warlock. The key points you want is the lvl 2 spell darkness. And devils sight. Together with double hand crossbow. Any pact will do. Devil signt Can see in darkness. Even magical which your spell is. It will cause blindness to everyone else in side. And anyone outside can't fire from out side Unlike melee. Off hand cross bow do add Dex. And you would want your stronger bow in the off hand.(duuno if that is intended or not.) You are free to cast spell then fire off hand. You can focus on dex or Cha. With either or being your secon. And probably want sharpshooter. It had both damage and negate low ground. If you pick tomb pact you can thorn whip pull them from low ground with penalty. Possibly proning them or pulling them in darkness. While blade can centralize your stat focus on Cha. Which you want on your off hand. You can use your action to e blast them with multiple beams then arrows after. Sinds sneak attack can only proc once per turn your two arrows is plenty. You can also still have a shield equiped adding to ac.

The opportunity cost for going into sorcerer is you lose the evasive passives, along with mage hand ledgerman and the magical ambush power, oh and extra sneak damage per rogue level. But you gain 3rd levels spells with meta magic and sorc buffs. Imo, it's not worth it. A 'better' arcane trickster would be thief multiclassed with an illusion wizard. But I will say that utilizing the thief subclass for extra bonus actions, combined with 5 levels of sorcerer, 2 levels of warlock for eldritch blast and 2 levels of fighter would be WILD when combined with ilithid powers and the upgrade to use bonus action instead of normal actions for illithid powers.

Instead of dipping into sorcerer, I'd dip into wizard, since you get more spells, it scales off Intelligence, which is a rogue's perferred secondary trait, and gives you access to a much wider variety to spice up your rogue. Plus you get to pick a school of magic specialty, which can help you flavor out the type of rogue you wanna be. Illusion, or enchantment to fuck with things, Conjuration, or Evokation to be more combat based, and necromancy, divitnation, or abjuration to be a more support based class.

@@FinalParty_ Indeed, plus, Arcane Tricksters get access to an invisible mage hand which can give you even more utility and additional spellslots and cantrips if your aiming to be a true spell slinger. Really, It comes down to the type of arcane trickster you wanna be. Whether you want combat prowess, spell utility, or spell support.

Intelligence is a Rogue's preferred secondary ability score because... why, exactly? It does dick all in 5e. Rogues are much better off prioritizing any other ability score, though Wisdom or Constitution should definitely be the main choice. Now that's not to say there isn't value in making a Rogue/Illusionist, there absolutely is and it's a great combo, but having to prioritize your Intelligence is a cost, not a benefit.

I personally did something around 5 rogue thief and 7 illusion wizard. By getting the quick illusion ring that allows you to use an illusion spell as a bonus after dealing Melee damage I could stab then use invisibility to disappear. Or even better use greater invisibility to just stay invisible the entire combat

10/2 evo Wizard rogue. cast wall of fire and hide. friends are free to walk in and out as they wish. cause of evo wizard lvl 2. having someone who can drag bodies. having dark hole from the tadpole powers and the perk that lets you uses them with a bonus action.

Time to tell on myself. Arcane Trickster is my favorite class of DND and even Baldur's Gate 3. People have this misconception that Arcane Trickster is equal parts Rogue and Wizard but that's just not the case. They are mostly Rogue with some added Illusion Enchantment and some smaller spells from wizard extended list. I would say the Arcane Trickster is 80% Rogue and 20% wizard. If you want to play a caster going wizard or sorcerer is better for that. This guy was creative though he made a more caster than Rogue build that worked for him and I can respect that too. But this isn't a better Arcane Trickster for 2 big reasons in my opinion 1 being you don't have access to the magical ambush class feature. 2 Being the options available to you aren't the same since you have much higher casting ability and you can still get that in BG3 through scrolls actually and yes magical ambush in BG3 does work with scrolls. You are a Rogue still and scrolls are light and easy to steal so not hard to keep on hand with you either. Hope this helps everyone and cool little multiclass you made here but it's not an Arcane Trickster it's a build all it's own and you should be proud of that.

4 thief, 6 Bard, 2 wizard Sharpshooter and spell sniper. 17 dex 16 int 13 char Hair +1 dex Patron memory +1 char Mirror +2 char Graceful Cloth +2 dex (18 AC mage armor) Phantasmal killer, dissonate whisper, Vicious Mockery, greater Invisibility, main spells. All crit items, risky Ring, scoundrel ring Grab the renosance stone (remember to put in bag)

sword bard is really underrated, it works almost out of the box as a gish character with really good arrays of CC and Trickstery spells, competent melee, really good bow damage as a backup when out of spell slots, and medium armor prof + shield prof i personally like a dual wielding sword bard since having two stat sticks to use in casting and melee is pretty clutch like "Knife of the Undermountain King" which works for ALL damage that can crit including spells and cantrips i say almost out of the box bc if u add CHA bonus eldritch blasts from a warlock dip (bards also get an extra short rest which synergizes with warlock), bonus action and sneak attack from a thief dip, or the infamous OP paladin dip for smites (too OP for my tastes) you have an incredibly well rounded character who is honestly a true jack of all trades even excelling in some aspects i use risky ring for sneak attacks and better chances on spell saves but that's personal preference

i really wish we had a Divine Rogue type of class instead one that pulls not from int but wisdom and could cast cleric magic since being able to heal someone say as an action then heal another party member as a bonus action would be extremely useful you then get a passive ability where if an enemy misses you with an attack you get to turn invisible for the rest of that turn flavored as a sort of divine protection.

@FireVerze that's doing alot at that point. What are you trying to achieve? Ranger gets healing spells and as the other person said, a feat would give you cleric spells without being a cleric.

I still think that regular arcane trickster is better because my guess is that with this build you either run out of spell slots really fast and your sneak attacks don't deal enough damage. As long as my guy has misty step and invisibility and a few more utility spells like feather fall I'm happy about it. I'd actually multiclass into a wizard instead of a sorc because with the wizard you learn way more spells and you cast them with intelligence, which is what the trickster uses

Here is my version that is more about weapon damage. College of swords bard 9, thief 3, with stats consentrated on charisma and dexterity. In act 3 you can find ring that lets you cast illusion and enchantment spells as bonus action if you attacked with weapon. So pick best fron those schools. You have two bow attacks where you can turn them to four with slashing flourises, and every turn you can cast two illusion or enchantment spells.

I use 3 in thief fr bonus action, rest into land druid to get mass of spell slots up to 5 I think I have 2. I use the legendary rapier alone (attack with it as a bonus action anyway so might as well to get an extra reaction) and dual hand cross bows (one that does an extra 1d4 against burning enemies and the other deals burning damage while obscured) Pair with cloak that drops cloud on disengage and ring that prevents blinding. Up close I can attack 3 times or twice then disengage. Afar I can cast level 5 spells (like use storm) or disengage into hide making smoke around me then burn someone to do increased damage next turn

I tried to make it good once, by going conjuration for benign transportation. I figured it would be cool to switch places with the mage hand. Do things like drop a bottle of water or grenade for the hand to throw before the swap. Heavy spec into lightning and effects that amplify the offhand attack on spell/cantrip use. Sadly the functionality of mage hand even for arcane trickster is just terrible. An ally with Volo eye would constantly reveal the hand. That and it's inability to re-invis made it unusable... The hands being able to equip and use magic accessories, but not dropping them on death was a major missed opportunity.

Rogues benefit heavily from chaos, would definitely go wild magic. That, or just stick rogue arcane trickster the whole way and B-line for sharpshooter because the power attack feats are the best in the game bar none. Dual wield crossbows for extra pow

The best thing about arcane trickster in actual 5e is that your legerdemain mage hand can make sleight of hand checks (and is invisible). I haven't tried arcane trickster in BG3 yet. Can the mage hand pickpocket in BG3? My favorite character ever in 5e was a lvl3 arcane trickster\ illusion wizard multiclass... would be really fun to play a build like that in BG3

What about going the Rogue Assassin path to get a little better rounding on that melee damage while also getting invisibility? Between magical feats and being able to multiclass with other magic classes, i feel like fewer levels into magic classes are needed to make this type of build work better.

I think going arcane trickster over thief would be better for the simple reason that AT gets sneak attack on spells and would be better able to keep up with DPS without having to burn all their slots

Draconic Sorcerer/Arcane Trickster multi-class, 1/2 elf is the closest I could get thematically to my Breton Stealth Archer from Skyrim, combined with my mage Hawke from Dragon Age. I like to head canon that the backstory of my Tav character is related to them somehow. :D I would love to hear ideas from anyone else if you tried to remake their characters like this.

you can just go 4 arcane trickster 8 diviation wizard you will just lose a level 6 spell but you will get sneak attack and cunning action as a wizard use your deviation to get crit for you sneak attacks

So you sacrifice lvl 4 feat and scaled up sneak attack for underpowered sorcerer spells because a full caster gets Fireball at that lvl and instead you can cast some lvl 1-2 spells so you just end up with a wasted 3 lvls of being a rogue. Your concentration also ends up being terrible due to starting as a rogue and not having warcaster??

Fly is great, but Misty step doesn't rely on your movement speed. It is a guaranteed distance (barring the map ending) and you don't have to worry about AoO or area spells like silence or spirit guardians. Using both is the ultimate. And building to get flight is meh unless you don't go half illithid.

Any confirmation if the flight triggers off of Mage Armor when using the Armor of Shadows invocation? Would save slots when you just wanna fly, and you can also pick up EB+AB for resource-free damage

@@rburger1397Black hole and spiritual guardian combo is OP. Going into the Shar priest fight. My 4 against their 20 something. Hide behind a corner to get them to get closer. Shadowheart drops a 6th level SG and sits in front fully tanked up. Drop the black hole next round centered on her and watch nearly every radiant vunerable creature die instantly. My body pile looked like the ones in the vampire palace.

The only benefit we saw from arcane trickster was invisible mage hand and it wasn't worth it lol. Thief gives an extra bonus action at 3 though

@@FinalParty_ Still not worth it. If you can't attack with it then extra action doesn't do much. Rather have more spell access than a very limited action. I'd rather be a wizard over Sorc anyway because the Sorc subclass choices in game are lame compared to what would be better in tabletop form.

So at the end you will have either a lot of damaging sorc spell and become just a sorcerer with 3 stupid levels in thief, or you will try to play as thief with lots of mobility but having 0 damage since sneak attacks scale only from rogue levels. Trying to improve shit you end up having another shit))

Honestly, looking back... is Enhanced Leap better than Misty Step? Definitely get more movement out of it and you can already avoid opportunity attacks with that Storm Sorcerer fly ability.

Enhanced Leap is a ritual out of combat, can possibly trivialize some otherwise difficult traversals in the game.

@@FinalParty_ why wouldn't you then just play a sorcerer or wizard? Anyway, I haven't tested it yet but I heard that you can be wizard, learn spells from scrolls and then keep them as known when you change class, that would be pretty op for the arcane trickster

@@wildbanana5527 wizards can learn from scrolls just like normal DND. But the build is just looking to improve the subclass arcane trickster since it's only buff is an invisible mage hand. We saw more power multiclassing rogue and sorc together to still get the sneak attack bonus while getting access to more spells

@@wildbanana5527 The problem is that those spells are known Wizard spells and you can't ready them without a level in Wizard and even then limited to Wizard levels+INT bonus spells.

It's an awful build. With no sneak attack scaling you're just a worse sorcerer and a WAY worse rogue with no synergy between them. It's far weaker than playing a regular arcane trickster, or indeed any full sorcerer or rogue.

We like more levels into sorcerer for higher level spells but going into rogue for more extra sneak attack dmg is also an option

Lot of utility out of it Popular reasons are casting before battle next to a bunch of potions you dropped to throw for heals, Throwing explosives and being out of aoe range of it, and of course the infamous shove.

I highly appreciate you take the time and effort to make vieo for the community, this is great but you should either develop when you sue those odds stat spread or use a classic one to avoid beginners ruining their build, make it look like you actually care and didn't just made it to surf on BG3 popularity ^^

One thing i always wounder. HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU SUBCLASSING?! i have completed the game 2 times on normal difficulty and i have never gotten a subclass as a choice when leveling! Only class specs

And all you're giving up is all your damage. Literally just play a sorcerer or a rogue and it will be better than this monstrosity. Your Sneak Attack isn't scaling with those sorcerer levels so you're basically just a sorcerer with three less levels than everyone else and a cunning action you don't need because you can dash AND disengage whenever you cast a levelled spell, which you could do way more if you didn't have three useless rogue levels.

@@FinalParty_ Arcane Trickster is the strongest rogue subclass. I know you're just trying to make fun videos, but this is basically just blatant misinformation about a popular new game for clicks. The DnD 5e system has been out for like, a decade at this point. If you want to optimise it, there are endless resources for that. You're actively making peoples' experiences of this game worse. Please do some research before posting things like this, for the sake of your viewers if nothing else.

They’re right, as trickster focuses on using intelligence, sorc would be better due to the metamagic, if you were to flavor it as a ninja, you COULD pick a single level in wizard for more spells, but at that point, ya may as well bring the circlet of arcane intellect anyway with spell learning = wiz stuff. Even still? You got as close to a ninja as this game will give ya!

The 17 can't be any higher. And your secondary might as well be an odd so that you can take one ASI to get two mod increases OR get a hybrid feat that gives 1 increase plus good stuff. Now, if your character needs Int, Str, or Con as a secondary/tertiary then don't worry about them too much because there are items/potions that will set them to higher numbers. No need to spend feats on them.
