It can be a big help for achy joints and general inflammation in the digestion tract and respiratory system as well. The use of BOSWELLIA resin dates back thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine. But, more recently, medical science has begun to research its full potential and extensive anti-inflammatory properties. Most notably, scientific studies have suggested that boswellia can also block what is known as “5-LOX inflammation,” which has great therapeutic possibilities.
Boswellia is an herbal extract derived from Boswellia serrata, a densely-leaved tree (that looks like a beautiful over-sized shrub) found across India, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia. The extract’s name comes from old French and means “high quality incense.” It’s gathered from the resin of five varieties of Boswellia trees.
It’s healing properties have been noted for centuries and has been used for a variety of illnesses and ailments, including: asthma, cerebral edema, chronic bowel diseases, arthritis and cancer.
In the case of arthritis, for instance, boswellic acids - the active components of Boswellia - seem to have very strong anti-inflammatory properties. People who have rheumatoid arthritis as well as osteoarthritis may respond well to boswellia because it may also help to reduce cartilage loss and hinder the autoimmune process that contribute to these conditions.
As scientists have looked more deeply into this traditional medicine, they’ve found that boswellia has some additional properties: specifically, its potential to block what’s known as 5-LOX inflammation (which is short for the more scientific term, “5-lipoxygenase inflammation”). 5-LOX is an enzyme that can interact with fatty acids to create leukotriene, which is linked to very strong pro-oxidant and pro-inflammatory activities. (If you saw my earlier podcast on glutathione, I discussed how dangerous an overabundance of oxidants in your system can be!)
5-LOX can impact both the cardiovascular system and the neural system. Its impact on cardiovascular health is often concentrated in the aorta, coronary and carotid arteries. For the neural system, it’s especially localized in the hippocampus and the cortex. In both the cardiovascular and neural systems, the presence of 5-LOX increases considerably as people get older. Luckily, integrating boswellia herb in your diet is pretty easy. You can find it an extract, herbal supplement or powder.
As we all know, frankincense had great value in ancient times. Modern science has confirmed that it’s properties are not just stuff of legend and story. Its anti-inflammatory properties have been proven to be very effective in dealing with some significant health problems like inflammation and they can help ease post race joint aches and pains.

KEY TERMS & IDEAS
Boswellia (or Indian Frankincense) has had a centuries-long reputation for reducing inflammation of all kinds, like arthritis and asthma. More recently, scientists have confirmed this property through studies and have discovered its ability to block 5-lipoxygenase inflammation.

I'm triedots of things for a couple years to get rid of arthritis pain in my knees. I tried a few different things about 10 days ago and I finally feel much much better. Since I tried several things at once I can't pinpoint which one helped. But one them had botswellia extract with tart cherry and turmeric. Turmeric never worked for me though. The other things I started was moringa leaf powder and grass-fed beef liver capsules. I don't think it was the beef liver capsules that helped though. But I'll continue taking them for awhile and try to figure out which one really helped me.

Hey there! It is quite possible that Boswellia extract played a key role in relieving your knee pain, since it has a strong analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect. It has been used for centuries as a natural remedy for numerous inflammatory conditions. A great supplement to pair Boswellia with when it comes to arthritis is collagen. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body, and we need it to preserve mobility, flexibility, and strength of joints, muscles, bones, and ligaments, among many other things. Many studies have confirmed that supplementing with collagen can ease the symptoms of arthritis.

@@tjgrafiks if you try again, make sure to get a product with at least 65% boswellic acids, and try to find boswellia serrata (there are many other types of boswellia) which is from the third harvest of the gum resin. You should see results in a much shorter period of time than a few months.

Thank you..I’ll try it. I took glucosamine, chondroitin and msm for two years...and didn’t notice any improvement. Do you take the herb only when your joints are a bother or do you have to take it daily for a long time to notice.?

Jeffrey Vasquez Thank you for your question! It’s a good one. I’m not sure of the type of Gluc/Chon/MSM you took and the type of bioavailability. But, if your looking for something different Boswellia can help with inflammation. It’s mechanism of action is different but it can help with inflammation. I’ve seen some users receive benefit within a few weeks. Others longer. But, it’s certainly worth a try!

johnnydarter Typically, Boswellia can be taken at general dosages of 300-500 mg 2-3 times per day. Of course, each person is unique so depending on your particular health needs this may vary. Always check with your healthcare provider to be sure it’s safe for you and your specific health needs. Thanks! 🌿

How long of taking Boswellia should one expect to see results? I just started taking 500mg once a day for my Crohn's and Rheumatoid Arthritis as I'm currently having a flare up. Thanks!
@nadamilosavljevic431
@nadamilosavljevic431 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment! First, I'm very sorry to hear about your Crohn's and RA. They can be difficult conditions and hinder your day-to-day activities. That said, there are certainly things you can do in addition to more mainstream medical treatments. While general dosing guidelines reference 300-500mg two to three times per day, you might also want to check that the form you are taking contains at least 60% boswellic acids. This is the active form. Second, your question as to how long it might take to see an effect...several studies were linked to positive benefit following 4-6 weeks of use. But a few research articles had patients using it for 8 weeks after which it resulted in significant improvement in knee pain related to osteoarthritis (OA). Other studies have combined Boswellia with Curcumin (just another herb to consider). Good luck and wishing you good health!

Please provide the research papers that I can look up and read, thank you as I am always looking for non opioid pain relief because of dependence and lack of exercise and what THC does because of the expense of the relief it actually brings but I leave in a state with private prisons so the rich would rather I suffer and need pain pills and methadone clinic as these are investment tools for those bankrupt of morals to make profit off the suffering masses, as we all know Harvard teaches democracy is only a limitation on profit....
