Welcome to Solo Intro - • SOLO - Fretboard Visua...
"What Are Intervallic Functions?" - • SOLO - Fretboard Visua...
Visualize the fretboard, master scales and play through changes like a pro with intervallic functions!
‣ Solo is a revolutionary practice tool designed by world renowned fusion guitarists Tom Quayle and David Beebee.
‣ One of the biggest barriers to improvising on guitar is finding and mapping out the relevant chord tones and scales all over on the fretboard in real time.
Solo is a highly focussed app for developing your note finding and visualization ability on the guitar. There is no time-based pressure and Solo reduces the cognitive load of having to choose which ‘notes/intervals’ to play. As you get quicker at finding these ‘notes’ you will conversely get better at choosing them whilst improvising. Players of all ability levels will reap huge benefits from practicing with Solo.
‣ Using common progressions, Solo presents you with one chord symbol or scale at a time and asks you to find and play a series of notes based on their intervallic function.
‣ Solo listens to the notes you play, analyzes them in real time, and doesn’t move on until you’ve correctly found each note by its intervallic function in the specified order.
‣ This process builds strong fretboard visualization for the most powerful, efficient and malleable way to KNOW your way around the fretboard no matter how difficult the chord changes are.
As a unique and powerful ear training tool, Solo also develops your ability to not only visualize what you’re playing, but hear it in real time too.
If you know your note names but struggle to learn new scales, play through chord changes or find yourself stuck in pattern based playing, practicing diligently with Solo will be transformational for your knowledge of the fretboard and subsequently your ability to outline harmony when you improvise.
‣ CHANGES PLAYING TRAINER
Practice finding intervallic functions over a series of chord changes based on common and popular chord progressions. Solo is programmed with all the knowledge behind the scenes to understand jazz and popular music harmony and will always pick appropriate intervallic functions based on the harmony of the progression.
‣ SCALE TRAINER
Practice finding intervallic functions within scales on the fretboard. Solo includes all the modes of the Major, Melodic Minor, Harmonic Minor and Harmonic Major scales, plus pentatonic and symmetrical scales. Seeing and finding scale tones as intervallic functions will transform your ability to manipulate and improvise with scales in real time.
‣ TUTORIALS
Solo also includes video tutorials to get you started with intervallic functions, how to find them on the fretboard, using Solo for ear training and how to get the most from your practice time with the app.

Tom I bought your fretboard visualization course last month, and I committed to cataloging intervals (about one per week) and only moving at the speed my brain allows. Being patient and consistent is already reaping massive rewards. I will never, ever look at or think about the fretboard the same way. Thank you

@@HankStoneMusic thanks for response. I was wondering how much SOLO is helpful for standard tuning, where I suppose that for 4ths tuning it's godsend tool. So how do you deal with fretboard visualization with SOLO and this G-B strings kink? Any tips? I'm thinking of buying solo. I'm having much fun playing blues and pentatonic shapes, but I believe substituting pentatonic shapes with intervalic functions is a massive upgrade...

Can you please add a visual representation or finger chart to the chords in the app? Sometimes, I see the chord and Im like, what is that? Being able to play the actual chord prior to the lesson would help out tremendously to really understand the context.

You need to add a feature of a chord sounding in the background either a pad of strings or whatever so you can hear what the intervals sound like against the chord. This is the only reason I haven't purchased it yet.

I find it helpful to replace the root through b9 in all scales or chords (7b9/7#9/HM5/Diminished) as you would do when you improvise. By doing that you'll see and hear the diminished shape in the chords and scales containing the b5. Altered of course contain the b9 as well, but not the diminished pattern. For 99,9 % of the viewers is this probably basics. Just wanted to mention it. that have this extension.

loved the app!! I have a question tho, when you are playing the scales of each chord, are you hearing all the notes of the scales relative to the root of the chord or the root of the overall key? for example: when solo asks to play a Gm7 scale (let's say Gm7 functions as the ii chord so its a dorian scale) from the 3rd to the 3rd, are you hearing the scale relative to the root of the CHORD of the moment (b3 4 5...2 b3 relative to the note G) or hearing as (4 5 6 7...2 3 4 relative to the overall key which is F major) .. or are you aware of both intervals?
@tomquayleguitar
@tomquayleguitar 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I hear and think of everything in realtion to the chord of the moment, so in your example against the root note G, rather than the overall key. Hope that helps!

I had to ask for a refund as SOLO wouldn’t note detect three different audio interfaces including a Line6 amp and an Apogee Jam +. Caveat: Check before you purchase SOLO!
@SoloApp
@SoloApp 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, did you get the last support reply we sent regarding the class compliance of the Line 6? A firmware update to the Amplifi would possibly address this. The Apogee jam afaik is a guitar adapter and not supported. We are continually testing and improving on this front, however in a quiet environment the onboard phone microphone does provide a good, reliable experience. We’re sorry you’ve had a difficult time getting the interface to work. Let us know if there’s anything else we can do.
