In this video, we discuss what is the next step for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Is Sheldon Keefe going to get fired? What about Kyle Dubas is he at risk of getting fired as well?
Let me know what you guys think down below!

Change the players, change the coach, change the GM. Rinse and repeat. The problem with the Leafs is cultural. Put anyone into that culture and watch what happens. Until the organization is literally torn up and started over, the unbroken decades of ineptitude and incompetence will continue. Leaf fans are completely oblivious to the reality of this not really ever a TEAM.

That's what the "Shanaplan" was supposed to be. What more tearing down would have been possible? IMO, the NHL should cut its losses in Arizona and put that franchise in the GTA as soon as possible. It will take balls, as the governors would have to override the 50 mile territorial non-compete bylaw, but competition with another franchise in Toronto would do wonders to revamp the Leafs' culture.

Nylander is the only tradable contract, because he comes in at a good price and has been a good playoff contributor. Maybe Matthews because the Leafs could get some good assets in return, but it has to be to a team that he wants to go to and has the ability to resign him. No one wants to take on Tavares’ contract and won’t be willing to give up enough to satisfy the Leafs. Marner is a great playmaker in the regular season, but he is a soft and has proven his entire NHL career that he can’t deal with the physicality and extra pressure of the playoffs. The closest he got to bumping into a FLA payer during that last season was during the handshake line.

Matthews and Marner both have no movement clauses that kick in July 1. Matthews will simply play out his last year and go where he wants. As far as Marner , no one is going to pay 10 million plus for a guy that cant handle playoff hockey. This team is an absolute mess top to bottom and have Brendan Shanahan to thank for it.

Let’s be realistic. You all know that Shanny/MLSE aren’t going to let Kyle Dubas go elsewhere. They’ve invested time and effort in training him to be a stupendous GM. Dubas wants to remain in the hockey capital of the universe. He will promise to trade one or two of the core four to free up to $22 M to sign a top right shot defenseman and a bonafide No. 1 goalie. First off, he will try his earnest to convince Tavares to rescind his no movement clause so he can trade him with perhaps $5 M retention. That would be $6 M saved. If Tavares refused, Dubas will trade away Mitch Marner’s $11 M. He will trade Auston Matthews $11.634 M because the Leafs cannot afford Matthews’s $13 to $15 M asking price for a new contract.

I think to be named hockey capital of the universe you need to have Stanley Cup banners that have been won after the league expanded to more then 6 teams. And note that banner is plural. Plus to be consider a top tier organisation of all time you need to have had some of the best players to ever played on your team at some time. You know like Maurice Richard or Gordie Howe or Guy Lafleur or Bobby Orr. All the Leafs have are some middle of the pack stars of there era like Borje Salming or Mats Sundin or Darryl Sittler. Its pathetic. Usually the respond I get is that the Leafs generate the more revenue in league witch is hilarious. It just means that Toronto fans are just paying the most money for a sub par product for decades upon decades. Gotta love the Leaf fanbase.

i thin it has to be both tavares and mathews to go. both have some value right now but will have no value very shortly, rebuilding in todays game is far easier than it used to be and a shake up is needed, not sure the gm should be blamed but at some point you have to try something new.

Tavares has a full NMC, is overpaid, arguably past his prime and on a personal basis, just started a young family within the past couple of years. If Dubas (or anyone else) can convince him to waive the clause and agree to a trade, they should get paid 11 mil a year themselves! You will have much better odds at trying to sweet talk JT into signing a new team friendly deal so he can close out his career here without the pressure of being a top 10 player while still being Captain.

The offensive stars could certainly help put fans in the seats and perhaps assist a team in finally making the playoffs. Thats a lot of money for a billionaire American owner to consider. It's not the players. It's the culture. The team isn't a group of employees that work for the fans but yet are treated so. Encourage them. Support them. Don't destroy them like a bad parent does to a child with great potential. Y'all need an intervention.

Actually, they ARE employees and fans pay (a lot) for tickets to see them play. Its a business ... a results-oriented business. They're professionals, not amateurs. They don't need their hands held or their pussies powdered. The players are paid to win games. When teams don't win, players get traded or released, coaches and GMs get fired. And when a team is paying three players a combined 33 million dollars a year, you can darn well bet that the owner expects results too.

The core four should have included a legitimate no. 1 defenseman, not two no. 1 centers. It's pretty clear who the elephant in the room is, but it doesn't matter now because Matthews is going to walk or be traded. Every successful team's core includes 2-3 star forwards and a no. 1 defenseman. With the way scoring has elevated recently, I'm not sure a star goalie is even that important nowadays...Linus Ullmark is going to win the Vezina for craps sake, he's no Tuukka Rask or Carey Price.

So many of these videos have no idea what they’re talking about. JT is unmoveable. Absolutely unmoveable. And it’s not just because of the draft capital you’d spend getting a team to take that contract, but he has a full no move clause. He can’t even be put on WAIVERS without his permission, let alone be traded. If he wants to stay there is nothing they can do about it.
@HockeyCircle
@HockeyCircle Жыл бұрын
Thats what I quickly mentionned. I actually think a team would be willing to take Tavares because its only 2 years, the return would just be mediocre. I think Tavares would be willing to move his clause to chase a cup after multiple failed attempts in Toronto

The first big mistake was signing Tavares. That has hamstrung the payroll ever since. Keeping your drafted talent is great but doling out $11 million for a free agent was stupid. I would like to see a Marner for Brady Tkachuk trade.

Yup. The Tavares hype has lingered since he was 15 years-old. Dubas was blinded by it and failed to recognize that JT has never been - and doesn't have the talent ever to be - better than a point-a-game NHLer. No playoff track record. No individual league trophies. Even Brad Marchand has had a 100pt season. $11 million long term was totally insane.

I think they should trade marner. With Matthew's contract it makes sense but I don't think matthwes will pull a Tavares being on the freaking maple leafs biggest hockey franchise. Pretty sure Matthwes wants to win as a leaf. Would trade brodie marner(or nylander) and do away with Keefe and dubas. Team can't contuie like this and needs change. Just because your good on paper doesn't mean your good on the ice. And this just shows all the flaws with advance stats and analytics. Every game starts 0-0, no team is guaranteed a victory. Intangibles go way father then skill and speed, more then that even points. This is when I go to the Sakic days and he focused on other aspects of the game rather then getting the most points. Wins are more valuable then points. Playing to win is more important then playing to score. Their shouldn't be content when you aren't performing when it really matters.

Matthews and Marner both have no move clauses that kick in july 1st. Matthews is one yr out from free agency , anyone who wants him will simply wait. Nylander , also one year out will undoubtedly opt for free agency. No one is going to cough up over 10 million for Marner. Tavares ... lol good luck with that albatross. 10 UFAs to sign or replace. This team is in such a mess financially thanks to Kyle Dubas that they will have no choice but to go with these bums and most likely end up losing them all to free agency.

Can't trade Matthews, Marner, or Tavares because no team is taking any of those contracts. Nylander could be hard to move also. Best thing they can do, and probably won't, is to fire Dubas and Keefe. They've had how many years and have proven over and over that they can't get it done. Not gonna say the name but I can think of a former player who has been learning at the right hand of two of the more respected GMs in the NHL since he retired and will be a very good GM in the future and wouldn't shock me if Shanahan made a call about him.
