Join me as we go aboard the HMS Belfast for a Bond Experience like no other. The British James Bond Fan Club had a mission for us! The mission? To honor Bond director John Glen while raising money for UNICEF and bringing together hundreds of Bond fans for a night of celebration. A part of the evening was a moment when I had the distinct honor of interviewing John Glen about his work on Bond, and his answers will blow you away. What a gent John Glen is. Someone in his position could easily say no to all these events/podcasts etc. He really embraces the fanbase and comes across as a really decent man.

I loved John Glen's directing on Bond. For Your Eyes Only, Living Daylights and Licence to Kill are always in my top 10 list of Bond movies, and I've grown to appreciate Octopussy over the years. He really doesn't get enough credit for keeping the Bond franchise alive (and fun) through the 80's. Thank you John, you legend!

Yes, the third act of Octopussy is one of the best action set pieces in the series.

John Glen's era is my favourite. He confirmed my theory that the secret to Roger's longevity in the series is how he treated people on set; a humourous true English gentleman. It did tug at my heartstrings a little seeing that the evening was to raise funds for Unicef. The different chapters of Roger's work intertwining to make even more of a difference. What a legacy. Excellent interviewing by David.

Oh my word, got emotional watching that myself. You can see Mr Glen's legacy in movies to this day.. My God, Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning was a complete homage to his era of Bond, I could even write a book on how much was paid tribute to the Glen era in that film. Wonderful! I am also gutted that I had to miss 'this' comic con... I was in London but with my good lady for a few days. So with regret couldnt get over there. Looking forward to your coverage of that David and thanks again for the brilliant work...

You could really say Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning was a homage to John Glen’s Bond, from the more serious tone to the sinking of the sea vessel at the beginning to the entity system referencing the ATAC to the small yellow car to the fight above the train…

And the motorcycle jump, not from a Glen film but the parachute scene from TSWLM. MI is doing a lot of copycat Bonds stunts. But 007 always does it better!

21:20 I totally agree, The Living Daylights is one of the best Bond films in my opinion, definitely has its darker tone but still a fun and tonewise balanced film. Hopefully, the new era will be lighter and somewhere close to Daylights.

John Glenn is to Bond ( certainly the 80's era ) what Spielberg is to Indiana Jones. Many amazing conversations to be had with him I'm certain. 👍

Unvelievable...when I lived in London in 2000, none of those east end skyscrapers were built yet...so weird to see such an ancient city with a modern skyline, so close to the Tower Bridge. Love this Phil guy...what a class act! Hope everyone cherished this amazing experience! Phenomenally conducted interview, David! Glen directed my favorite Bond film, For Your Eyes Only

Great interview David. It's awesome to see John Glenn is still full of stories about the Bond movies. I think my favorite movie was the spy who Loved me. Of which John Glenn was directing the second unit.

Brilliant video. I was there the next day for your Comic Con panel. I thought at the time you did a brilliant job hosting that, asking the right questions, making sure each lady got their moment to answer etc. As I now learn you did that in 2-3 hours sleep it’s all the more impressive.

John Glen is now 91 years old amazing , you were able to talk to him. As he is now closer to death , I will never get a chance to meet him , but at least he has left his mark on the James Bond films

Amazing thank you ! John Glen is Legend! I was lucky enough to attend An evening with Sir Roger Moore not long before he passed away , what an amazing night and what a recontour and a Gentleman. I can well understand the love out their for Sir Roger .

An absolute joy to watch and hear! Thanks for sharing. I loved hearing John speak as a coworker and friend of the actors, not their boss. He knew them and would make sure the scripts and scenes stayed true to their person. Very insightful.

I have a new appreciation for his contributions now after hearing about how it was to work on and create some of these films. Fantastic interview David! I liked your questioning because it was definitely more interesting like you said than his biography. The tanker chase in Licence To Kill, a sequence that Glen worked on closely, it the best chase in a Bond movie.

Fantastic video and presentation, a true rare glimpse into the scene. Thank you for asking abut The Living Daylights. The movie has had a lot of people hammering it over the years, and yes the middle part is saggy, but it is hugely under-rated. I might have asked about the Brosnan angle, as he was meant to be in that role, on the flying carpet and everything.

Just come across this particular addition to your burgeoning body of work. David in the Goldfinger garb you really do look the bees knees or the badgers naggers as they say over here. When this is coupled with your sangfroid and debonair charm the outcome is that you become the quintessential link-man / interviewer for this Event. All the questions were obviously brilliantly constructed and as always they were the ones the rest of its would have put to John Glen. You do us proud David!

I really enjoyed that one. John Glem is an extremely talented individual and very humble about it. David, if you happen to read this, I'd be interested in your general view of the UK and related to Bond. I would imagine you're quite fond of the place as a Bond fan. Maybe you could make a video of the locations used here, including Scotland? Skyfall had some great location work. I don't think they'll let you into the nuclear submarine base used in TSWLM!

John Glen’s done pretty well as a Bond director in my eyes. Octopussy and View to a Kill are some of my all time favourite Bond films and License to Kill is a pretty good one too.

He wasn't necessarily an auteur, but Glenn made two of my favorite entries (FYEO and LTK) in the series, one very good one (TLD), and one guilty pleasure (AVTAK).
