Lomography reached out about the blank frames and told me that it was "a prototype issue" that was resolved, so hoping that to be true for anyone who has already bought or plans to buy this little camera! They also provided me with a link to their 110 resource page that explains more about the the 110 format, where to get your 110 processed and scanned, etc! U can find that link in the description of this video! Hope u enjoyed this one y'all!

In this case, I have a prototype camera in the retail package for the full price that I paid for it XD I hope it's an early production unit issue, but it won't solve my problem.

Amazing stuff, Linus! My first ever camera was actually a 110 film camera that my parents got me when I was like 6 or 7 back in the late 80s. I recently found an undeveloped cartridge in a storage box at my moms house and had it developed. Only 2 frames came out, and they were pretty scuffed up and hazy, but that was probably largely due to 6 or 7 yo me messing up, haha. Anyway, love to see the format making a comeback. Cheers!

My Lomomatic arrived today. Shot a few frames already, and I'll be taking it on a trip to SoCal tomorrow. Hoping I don't get blank frames! Our local lab (Mike's Camera) will process and scan 110 color film for about $16, which is more than it costs me to process 35mm film at home but not outrageously expensive.

Great job as usual! I've noticed mine also doesn't fire the flash sometimes when the situation is out of the meter range, but I think it might also be a pretty early one since I'm borrowing a demo unit... Here's hoping! Can't wait to see the shots.

Great shots, Linus! Thanks for mentioning the release button. I have 3 rolls from the lab with 8-9 blank exposures because of it. I've done some research on the internet, contacted Lomography and asked people about their experiences. Well, it looks like everyone has noticed this problem to some degree. My main advice to all owners of this camera - try to release the shutter without film using the MX switch. Many times. It will help you to find out how to press the button correctly. In my experience, it's better to press it all the way down and hold it for a second. It's not guaranteed that the shutter will deffinately fire first, but if the film advance tab is already thrown and you've already released the button - the shutter will not fire. It's so weird and confusing for such a simple (and brand new) camera.

About scanning and developing 110 film. I have a Plustek 8200i scanner and get pretty good results at home. There is no 16mm film holder in the box, but you can 3D print one from models on the web. Same with 16mm spiral for Paterson tank. It helps at least for black and white.

Brighton Film Lab (UK) where I work doesn’t charge extra for 110 dev or scan and we can do b&w no problem. Not too sure if we can do high res 110 scans, I’ll have to check but standard res should no problem. One of my first cameras was a 110 and the shutter was similarly nothingy. Got a lot of shaky shots too.

110 makes sense for a on the town camera, if your going out to party or roam the streets with some friends it seems perfect, the high grain, low res works in its favour. for literally any other application i just don't see why you'd use it. great video as usual though!

When the lil camera went _ting_ I think my heart melted Honestly, cute shutter sound but the racking of each frame sounds a biiit plasticky. But who am I kidding, this camera seems really cool compared to most other cameras released lately! Film cameras coming in these unique form factors is one of my favorite things, that you can find a bunch of oddball designs from last century and they're all awesome also, when your friend embroidered your clothes and compared it to tattooing that made a lot of sense, so cool!

This is a really great review for the camera, thanks for making it in such detail. Very strange on the non firing though?! You did stumble upon something that i have learned shooting loads of rolls of 110 recently. Its very unfortgiving! You need lots of light, also you benefit a lot from big details, close ups of people etc. Ive fallen in love with the format but it requires a specific image to get the best out of it. Interestingly we have a couple of great options for dev and scan in London where its cheaper than 35mm which balances it out.

I really want this new 110 camera. I still have my original Vivitar 110 I got for Christmas 1982 when I was 7. And I have my mom Kodak Ektralight 110 from 1979. Both still work. I have a love for 110 since it was all we had for a long time until we got a cheap kodak 35mm camera in the late 80s.

I bought a Lomography 110 Digitaliza to scan & had a few 110 sized developing reels for the Paterson system 3D printed. Now 110 sized film is easy to process at home. This is the only way I could justify the film.

you say it's a shame they don't take 35mm film. Back in the day there were a selection of full frame 35mm cameras that weren't much bigger than this one. They were normally semi auto exposure (set the aperture the camera sets the shutter speed) with either zone or rangefinder focus. The one I have is an Olympus AX. Back then a lot of press photographers always had one in their pocket when "off duty". It easily produced good enough images for publication, and as we know when you see something that's news worthy the best camera to photograph it with is the one in your hand! The AX has a 40mm Zukio lens which was very sharp. Though maybe that counts as a disadvantage with Lomography!

I think I watched you fidget with the camera a couple times in the video, advancing the film when you hadn’t taken a shot. These skipped frames seem to just be skipped frames. Unlike on a 35mm, maybe it doesn’t stop you from advancing the film without engaging the shutter?
@linusandhiscamera

this looks interesting, but i have to say at this form factor i would rather just shoot on my iphone. im pretty disappointed that pentax chose to go the half frame route with their new film camera. i know the idea behind these cameras is the film is cheaper and you get more value due to having more frames, but these small negatives are just too unpredictable that the better value proposition becomes somewhat lost, especially because as you point out its a hassle to find 110 developing labs. i know this video isnt about the pentax camera but seeing new film cameras go for these niche form factors isnt exactly the direction i was hoping new film cameras would go. im glad the new rollei camera is going to be full-frame 35mm at least.
@linusandhiscamera
@linusandhiscamera 4 ай бұрын
totally understand man! that half frame by pentax will sell. and when it does, i bet you can count on a full frame 35mm from them at some point soon. this if anything - the 110 camera and the half frame - is a good push in the right direction and hopefully we’ll see a full-frame 35mm camera soon!

Interesting note about the shutter. I have a metal version and have experienced the same "two-step" action when pressing the button. The first action is the shutter opening and closing. The second is the registration pin resetting itself so it allows the camera to advance the film. So in my case, it *should* take a pic on the frame regardless. If i don't press down the whole way the pin wouldn't reset, and therefore the film wouldn't advance. At most, I would press the button again and, if none the wiser, think the camera took a pic when it just reset the pin. I advance again and this time the film actually moves, and the shutter is ready to take another picture. This wouldn't produce a blank frame, but it would miss out on a pic i thought i took prior. So maybe the "fix" they did for the retail version was the make sure the shutter goes off *before* the pin resets, to gaurantee an exposure happens before the film advances.
