Damn!!!! One of your best videos! I can't wait to see one on The Queers. And to answer your question: I found them in MRR in the 88. And being a straight edge kid in the 80's, it was kinda passé to be all about "drunk punks". But I didn't care. I loved their sound. My Brain Hurts is probably one of my favorite tunes, AND albums. (Still sad I sold my Ramones cover album before I moved to Florida)

My intro to Screeching Weasel was Kill The Musicians. I was listening to Kerplunk and Dookie obsessively, and my older brother who was getting into punk rock was like "stop playing that horrible stuff, and listen to this". He put Kill The Musicians in my CD player, and went to track 9. It was, at that point, the funniest and fastest shit I'd heard in my life. I needed more, so I started the CD from the beginning and listened to it probably 3 times in a row. I'd always take it from him whenever he wasn't around, until I eventually got my own copy, and several other SW albums on tape or CD. Then when I was 18 I got their logo tattooed on my arm. I only kinda regret that.

I'm so happy you made this video. I am one of the lucky few to have seen Screeching Weasel in their infancy. It was 1988, in the basement of the Masonic Temple in Elgin IL. We had to sign a waiver stating that we would not drink or do drugs, just to be allowed inside. I don't think I will ever be able to adequtely describe how beautifully punk rock that was .. a bunch of underaged kids with shaved heads and too much eyeliner, gathered in a church basement, promising to be on their best behavior just to be able to see a show. I still love and listen to Screeching Weasel to this very day.

Great documentary. I have been a fan of SW since I first heard BoogadaBoogadaBoogada in 1989 when I was a DJ at a college radio station and they grew into my all time favorite punk rock band and easily in my top 10 bands of all genres of music. My greatest memory of the band was in 1993, when they were touring for Wiggle, they spent the night at my house when they came to Atlanta. I then spent the next day with them before the concert and went with them to do their soundcheck. After they completed the soundcheck, I sat on the stage with the band and we all sung Ramones' songs for a bit. Such a great experience.

I also would like to say that the clips of the house of blues show most likely exist in higher quality out there somewhere. That show and another one from 2000 we're shared around on irc channels in pretty crappy quality back in the day. If anybody has any leads on some hq copies of those let me know! And if you've read this far and like SW I've got quite a few videos related to them on my channel. Thanks!

I got a copy of Boogada and My Brain Hurts in 7th grade (1992) from one of my brother's friends. Changed my life. It was funny, it was aggressive, it was smart. It was like nothing I'd ever heard. It set me up for the punk revolution that was to come early. I still to this day LOVE Weasel. I finally got to see them live in Madison, WI in 2017, despite living in the same town with Ben for 10 years. I would say Weasel is in my top 5 bands of all time.

HE FINALLY GON AND DUN DOOD IT! Will edit after I watch. John Jughead's channel is so good, loved following those as they dropped. Also his new band Mitochondriacs is FANTASTIC! (Big up Sex Dream, the band of their bassist). During the 2001 reunion era, my buddy heard of a show that was going down at the legendary Chicago venue Fireside Bowl. It was MTX and...I forget the other band, but it was rumored that Screeching Weasel was going to do a short set. So we three went just on that alone, and thank fuck we did because that SW set was absolutely fucking awesome. Full lineup including Vapid and Jughead, so many songs I never would have thought they'd play live (Mostly stuff from Wiggle, my favorite SW album), truly a religious experience. Speaking of the SxSW and Weaselfest incidents - I had two friends coming in from Washington DC for Weaselfest, trip booked and hotels confirmed and everything before the SxSW thing happened. Then all, well most, of the bands dropped out and it ended up being Vatican Junkies (Chicagoland Ramonescore/horrorpunk, pretty rad but not around anymore), Manges, The Queers, and most confusingly a band called FOSSILS. FOSSILS was a 2-piece (drums and bass) instrumental mathrock/prog/metal band. THEY RULED SO HARD but they did not belong at that show. My friends fucking hated them, I fucking loved them, but yeah. Kinda glad the real Weaselfest didn't happen, in a way.

I enjoyed this video! I've talked to Ben Weasel on and off, mainly through questions being answered during his Weasel Radio podcast and live streams. It's important to mention how his agoraphobia/anxiety got in the way of SW playing shows. They stopped in 1993 and wouldn't play another live set until 2004. Of course, the Riverdales still played shows, but then Ben recovered more.

I first got into Screeching Weasel back in the mid 90s. The band name really caught my eye, although to be honest, the first time I heard them I didn't think they were great. Weird really because now I even have the Weasel logo tattooed on my arm... My Brain Hurts is their best album, in my opinion. One of the best punk records ever made. It has that perfect blend of melody and attitude. I also have a real soft spot for the self titled album, though. That rough shitty sound has always been appealing to me and takes me back to my youth when I was playing in a terrible band that couldn't really play. Good times.

On the off u see this, and even slighter chance you do a video on it but I think it would be sick if you did a video on Jawbreaker. Their a little smaller but well known at the same time and would love to see your take on them

Old head here and SW was definitely one of my faves and have written some of the best songs of all time. I haven't kept up with them since FWM mainly because of some of personal falling out with Ben around that time. I do want to put a plug in for Ben's solo album, "These Ones are Bitter", as well as the Riverdales "Tarantula" which both came out during healthier and happier times for him and contain some of his best work imho. But his recent conservative Christian worldview as well as his continued association with some older punks who have 'less than great opinions' about things hasn't made me want to revisit their catalog or check out his current stuff.

SW conservative??? This makes me laugh. You Sound Like A Chinese Red Guard hunting down Chinese Christians, publicly shaming them, and persecuting them during China's " The Great Leap Forward". Anti Freedom oF Religion Anti Freedom of Opinion is not Liberal, That's Fascism. Ha!

@@leahflower9924I think he’s referring to the fact that he went right wing conservative dipshit. I believe he has a podcast, but fuck if I’d give him a view or click.....I had enough of him since he got arrested for assaulting a waitress on their reunion tour a decade ago. Caught them in Seattle, and I think he attacked the bartender two or three shows later in Texas. Never meet your heroes, as the saying goes 🙄

I get it, its 2023 , and in order to march in goose step with the punk rule book, ya gotta adopt the $h!t-lib mentality, but Its abundantly apparent that you have no business assuming as much as you do about a notable figure in punk rock world. His catholic religion has not a thing to do with any POv or statements he has made in regards to his music. ever. Period. Unlike you, i pay attention, i don’t allow “group-think” or arbitrary rules to affect my opinions, I try not to assume things, and most importantly i don't generalize people based on beliefs, religion or heritage, while unironically judging others for the same behavior.

I met a friend in highschool who gave me an mp 3 player it had his personal list of songs on it and we both listen to punk so it was full of punk songs. My cousin put some songs and albums of bands I wanted to listen to on it, like Strike any where was one.But the songs already on there I discovered for the first time like I found out about Blitz kid and It had 2 screeching weasels songs. I wanna be a homosexual, it's still my fav song by them. But kinda sketchy song to have on your playlist 😏 I still think aboutnit, And Every night. Anytime I feel lost and think why I'm hear I go to those two songs and just get a big relief while listening to them. But I've heard more of there songs and I really enjoy you really blister my paint. I can't believe that guy that does lead singing beat up that girl at ssxs that's messed up dude. My Cousin used to take me to those, but I'm glad to know that about the band it's always better to be informed. Thank you for your video I almost want more info on them but you gave me a Great base to go off of. Like things to look up. It's a very jam packed video. God bless you bro

First I heard SW was their cover of the Ramones debut (which is my favorite album). I already knew the Huntingtons (who I saw live backing Joey Ramone), and I decided I didn't like "Ramonescore" based on these two, because it seemed to feature lame vocals. But after a while I came across a live video of "the science of myth" on YT, which I thought was pretty good. Slowly I became a big fan of the band and genre. The vox are an aquired taste, but Ben is a great songwriter, and one of the truest punk rockers IMO.

I’ll be entirely honest, I’ve always hated screeching weasel. Even when I was a kid I could never get into them and That still hasn’t changed to this day. However The amount of love and dedication you put into these videos has me sitting here attentively watching a 42 minute video about the history of a band I don’t give a shit about. I always look forward to whatever you upload man, your work does not go unnoticed
