A Brief Assessment Of First West Of England | Bath & Bristol

So part 2 of my First West Of England adventure happened on a bank holiday Monday where I in a change of plan I started in Bath and had a nosy at some buses around Bristol too. Sampling a random selection of old and new buses, I review the vehicles and services with a brief assessment of the operation. I do intend to return for some proper in-depth brand reviews so look out for them soon.

I honestly think at the minute West of England is “the jewel in the crown” of the Firstbus empire, it sees the most inspiring liveries, modern vehicles, and has a certain attention to detail that other divisions seem to lack!

I saw that South Glos Lynx in bath at the start of the video, very unusual but amazing at the same time

@@AndMoreCentral bath is in Somerset so it’s most likely rail replacement. Quite unusual for rail replacement though.

The South West First network is one I highly recommend, lots of very striking liveries

As a local to the WoE sector, weston specifically I adore these buses. B9's are bril, we're getting most of bristols b9's as a matter of fact and getting rid of our lk53 b7's

Speaking of LK53's, they're amongst some of my favourite, however they do not have long left with WOE. My favourite B7RLE is also sadly going (69253) which has been up and down the country, it is also the ONLY b7rle in barbie over the WOE sector.

A lot of changes has happened since this was recorded: Excels have transfered to Somerset and replaced by brand new streetdecks in Badgerline livery. 36808 has repainted from m2 metrobus orange to metrobus red 36807 has been repainted into pride and gone to Bath 36814 36823 has moved to Bath

37352 has been repainted into citylines|blue 35112 35115 35116 35139 has transfered to Southampton

I have found it more reliable in Bristol of late, but they did have a really bad reputation locally. Especially on my local route with people being left to wait 2 or more hours for a bus to turn up. And just a couple of months ago the last bus for my 92 route home never turned up - I ended up having to get another bus and walking some distance the other end.

I have previously indicated my appreciation of these impressions of running the different bus fleets, but I do have one gripe: why oh why do you persist in sitting downstairs, at the back on a ‘decker? I don’t see any delight in looking at the seat in front. Get upstairs!

If he's anything like me, I absolutely hate going upstairs on buses even though you can get a better view.

Many bus enthusiasts will sit downstairs (at the back) to enable them to hear the engine/gearbox more easily and potentially get a better recording of it.

@@MaclarenT I have to disagree. I like the sound of the engine too, but from the outside; that way you don’t get all the extraneous noises from inside the bus, like the squeaks, groans, conversations and music.
