I don’t think I’ve had a trip of such beautiful and brutal extremes before! It felt like Spring as I made the hike up to my first camp spot by the lake. Closely followed with a crash back into Winter the next day; falling into a bog, howling wind, rain and clag. This one has my heart, I hope you like it :)

My and my wife have just taken up camping again. We camped when we both got married and enjoyed it but the fake materialistic life we all lead dragged us away from it. We’ve decided to ditch that lifestyle and return to the wild. Wow it makes you feel so alive. Your channel inspires us so much. Keep up the good work and thx for making the videos.

Hey Bjorn! Ahh thanks, I love it up there. I hope I can visit Norway one day. The forests and mountains look so beautiful. Mm I guess so.. my heart always sinks a little when I lose visibility. Feel a bit vulnerable not being able to see where I'm going, but I've not run into any bother so far, navigation wise anyhow. I've worked in environmental managment (I'm a biologist) and according to my geologists friends you are hiking a lot in post glaciar landscapes. Knowing that large parts of Northern Europe were under the Ice Sheet during the last Ice Age I'm really not surprised. Here in Portugal we also have glaciar valleys but only at high altitudes, as southern Europe was a refuge for animal and plant life. We have rural myths here describing the migration of animals to the North after the melting of the glaciers, which is supported by genetic evidence, as we have discovered in my field. Those bogs seem to be a result of the same event, and they look super dangerous. As a kid of the 90s myself I also remember those movies with the quicksand as well😂!

Tis Irish Bob saying hello Claire That was a very interesting wee bit of adventure Lass. The opening shot must have been pretty mild weather for this time of year. Very windy and boggy terrain. Were the boggs listed on the map? Sort of looked a wee bit like LOTR with Orcs running about. Loved the transitional shots from color to b/w. Very Wizard of Oz look. Glad you weren't hurt stepping into the boggy hole. They can be shockers for sure. Gear looks like it served well on yer excursion. Such lovely scenery. I did the same as you about 8 years ago, there was deep mud on the track and it was covered in leaves, I walked straight into it, up to mid-thigh. I couldn't move, I took off my pack (18kgs) and threw it onto solid ground and then tried to get myself out. It took me some 10 minuets. It is a very scary feeling, you hard held tight, and it takes a lot of energy and time to remove yourself and overcome the fear of being trapped. The area that I was in, is less well travelled. I was at an altitude of about 1200m.It took me some time to get down to a river and just throw myself into it and get myself clean. What a relief !!! I live 90 minutes from Eryri and have walked it for 20 years or so. It's my favourite place in the world and I like to think I know it well, however you explore such quiet areas, areas I've still never been to and you give me the bug to stretch out a bit and get away from the masses. Claire you're film making and editing is up there with the best! You really make the viewer feel like we are there with you, it's such a journey from start to finish. Many vloggers including myself would have gave up filming in that weather but you just carried on, what a trooper! Very inspiring. I think falling in that bog would have ended my day, well done and thanks for another great adventure here in sunny Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 😂 all the best.. Day

After a scare like that, stop and brew up if you can. I once walked off the side of a steep valley by walking on what was the top of a tree and tangled undergrowth. Fell down five feet before a branch stopped me. Luckily I had three mates in my patrol to help me out... once they stopped pissing themselves laughing. I was a bit bruised but it could have been worse. So we stopped for a brew and they mercilessly took the urine and I was fine... but it did shake me up, believe me. The whole area was steep hillsides with bush growing out looking solid and level but it was deadly, even in daylight and good weather. You are doing so well, kiddo.

imagine the work involved building those stone walls, OMG.. the effort our ancestors put forth so we may have a better quality of life is astonishing, we really should praise them so much more than we do, where are their monuments, books, gratitude? they did so much to get us all where we are today, even our grandparents had it pretty rough, droughts, great recessions, no AC, on and on.. imagine before internal and stam combustion, no trains, no cars, horse and buggy or by foot. believe it or not somany walked from new york to the west coast in the 1800's .. all that for opportunity, and the dangers and hazards, many didn't make it, built to give their children a better life, opportunity.. we really should thank them more.. a lot more

I had a bad last few days. But I decided that I would take a trip with you into the mountains. The reason for my bad time is I have been having leg cramps on top of arthritic knees, so standing up is interesting, walking a challenge. As the cramping is getting better, I just walked with you for 2 days. While you fell in a bog, I fell in the dining room, both of us survived. Your trip had everything, especially the happy ending

Don't change too much; you're such a happy, positive, person. Have you studied geology at all? The backgrounds of your trips show a great deal of what I believe to be a post-glacial landscape.

Very impressed by your constant determination. There seemed the odd time your face gave away the fact that you were thinking so hard about what to do next ! Your videos are a tonic for the soul! I have great memories of hillwalking in the Lake District and Yorkshire Moors with my dad when I was young and now love nothing more than being out in nature with my dog. So important and energising to be out there in the wild. Thanks for sharing your adventures and congratulations on the significant technical talent of the filming and editing.

I had a very similar experience, while on a night navigation exercise on the Brecon Beacons, during my time in the Army. Like you said, the ground just opens up without warning, very scary!!! The difference between our experiences? If I wasn't able to get myself out, eventually a section of blokes would have come searching for me. You did this completely alone! And thankfully you're ok, that was very quick thinking to throw yourself forward. I really admire your courage, confidence and determination Claire, I've been watching your videos for almost 2 years now, they always make me smile, and I love the positive messages too. Keep up the amazing work!

I despise bogs too. Growing up in Louisiana with a dad who loved hunting, I used to get taken out into the woods, fields, and swamps as a kid to spend a day trekking around in rough terrain that was sometimes dry, sometimes boggy. I can't remember how many times I fell into boggy bits and ended up being soaking wet and cold. After a while my dad finally realized that I wasn't going to be a hunter, and stopped taking me along. I do have a love for camping and canoeing though, but have never had the chance to do any hiking or wild camping. So I enjoy seeing people like you, who take it upon themselves to show the rest of us the adventures you have during your outings.

WTH Claire? Bogs on the side of a mountain surrounded by rocks? I would have guessed it was all solid ground with the biggest risk being a twisted ankle on a rock. Not falling into a quicksand like bog deeper than your trekking poles. What a blessing you were not seriously hurt or trapped. I am truly inspired by you and the adventures you take us on. Some day I hope to hike those mountains and see all the natural beauty you show us (minus the bog dip of course)

Another awesome video Claire. Every time I see a new video from you I want to go out and wild camp..😊.. Ref the Boggy areas, it reminds me of my army day’s training on Dartmoor in winter, at night. One area long time ago was used for artillery practice, so there are lots of huge crater holes, now filled with rain water.. Problem is we could not see them as no lights allowed ..We had to tread so slowly as we were carrying heavy loaded bergens,and weapons,and ammo. If we fell in one of them it would be hard work to get out thus prevent drowning..😮

Oh my Lord, you nearly went down a hole! We could have lost you! You were wet through, Sweetpea. I didn't like that part one bit. Shows how dangerous it can be out there in the wilds. Thank God you are smart and experienced. I hope your little socks dried! Some lovely panoramic views in this episode and Wales always looks best in the wind and rain. I lived there for 6 years and loved the place, driving handicapped kids to and from school and soon learned shortcuts through the mountains. I could have brought you some warm, dry socks!. Yet another great video and thanks for taking me.

Hi Miss Claire! Wow! What a hike through so much wetness. The area was indeed a beautiful place to hike and camp. Good thing you had your walking stick with you to test the ground as you walked. I'm sorry you fell in the bog , but I'm glad that you was able to continue your hiking and camping. Your determination of hiking and camping really shows on all your video's. Soooooo love it when you create a longer video of your adventures Claire. The shorter ones leave me feeling unsatifsfied and wishing for more. You do scare me sometimes though. Times when you fall into bogs or the fact you are alone. Glad you have a Garmin now. Also glad that you do not push past your comfort and safety zone too much. More power to you and love you and your love of all things small and crawly. ❤

I really enjoyed that camp and hike. Extremely precarious in places. It was a good example of how careful one must be walking in nature. You falling into that bog taught me a lesson of just how dangerous it can be when walking/hiking/meandering in the wild. You make great entertaining and informative films; brilliant editing. Great stuff. 👍

Hi Claire, last months I saw a few hiking channels. Some ASMR types of video's. I liked most of them quite much but seeing more vids one could see they were not alone. Building a small hut or shelter went so smooth one could imagine their or more people around. It spoiled the idea of watching. I saw now only 3 of yours and sincerely appreciate the way you do it. Myself as an Alpinist like it above 2500 meters in the Alps. Did some solo tours and mountain tops. Always thought in the UK their are only hills. But first of all, the rough nature is astonishing beautiful. The weather can be change instantly and with ridges, winds, cold water and these peat bogs even danger cannot be ignored here too.:iving in the Netherlands we actually don"t have real nature. A sky full off stars,.. to much light everywhere. The country side is so beautiful I decided to tell friends we should go on a 8 day hiking trip in the Scottish Highlands or Snowdonia.
