A Calif. Zephyr in Ft. Morgan on 12JULY2024

Today's California Zephyr #5 made its station stop in Fort Morgan at 0604 MDT (20 min. late due to a meet with the #6 Zephyr at Max, NE and several slow orders). Ric had P42s #72 & #29 bring the 8-car train to a single spot two car passenger service with 1 departing passenger from car 3 and 3 departing passengers from car 7. Then 6 new fares boarded car 7 for the trip west.
With the station work safely completed, the high ball was given and on a clear signal Ric ramped up the amps to the traction motors moving the Zephyr west toward Denver and a stop at Union Station there.
My thanks, as always, to the operating crew for the greetings this morning.
I was joined by two other rail fans this morning as they stopped to catch the Zephyr before heading to Julesburg, CO for a day of UP railfanning out there.

Mike, I hope I'm not bothering you with silly stuff but I keep forgetting to share this with you.Were'nt there some Amish people that got on or off? Well, awhile back I was watching either the east or west CZ that stopped in a town beginning with an O, not Ottuwa where Radar was from, I misspelled it but you get it right, anyway there were a boat load of Amish waiting for the train.I'm talking & I cant shut up but but I will.I'm lonesome so I guess I'll eat some cottage cheese & pineapple tidbits. Would love some fried oysters but not going to get my NOLA oysters I watched a man cull, is that the right word for a rooster because he was a mean one.I didn't know what that was until he picked it up & I turned my phone off.I love my chickens.You can guess what supper was.He laughed at a guy sitting at the table because he could'nt eat .Well, guess I'll go do my thang. @@carolynsteed3649 Yes. This is a stop for many Amish as they have an enclave due north of here in far northwestern Nebraska and Wyoming. I have registered several families that board the #5 here and head west to Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction. You are very close with Ottumwa, Radar's home from MASH. I have been there and like that area. YUM! Fried oysters and clams. And they aren't the Rocky Mountain oysters either. I just finished supper and am letting it work its way thru so I can go to bed in a little bit. Anyway, Enjoy the pineapple and cottage cheese. Can't do the pineapple as it makes me break out and swell up like a beach ball. But I do enjoy cottage cheese! 😎👋🥵🥵💦😎

Good morning MIke, I'm at the point where I'm wishing my life away looking forward to cool fall weather. The mowers are here today stirring up the pollen. Only going to 83 today but one needs gills with 88% humidity and dew points at 71. I hope I get to go on the train again one day.. I think it would be fun to take the train west on the most southern route, bring the chief back to Chicago, take the Zephyr west, and bring the Empire builder back. We have the grasses at it and now with harvest nearing completion for the barley and wheat the dust and pollen is nearly doubled. Most of your dream train trip in in my bucket list. Step on #5 ride to Sacramento. Step on the Coast Starlight to Seattle. Transfer to the Empire Builder to Chicago and then board the #5 Zephyr for Ft. Morgan. We also have a music festival known as "Bob-Stock" with the feature group being Three Dog Night for us oldsters. There are 4 or 5 other stages for other musical entertainment. Good evening, Mike. That was a nice catch of the Zephyr, with a spectacular sunrise behind it. What's left of the chorus sounds good. A busy day at the station, today. Nice to see. The SW high has shifted east into the CO part of the four corners. That should bring you a bit of our "interesting" weather, 11 straight days of over 110. Time to take care, stay safe and cool! Not as warm as what you endure down there but triple digits at 101 here. We head for 103 tomorrow and 106 or higher on Sunday. I am tracking what should be tonight's #6 that just made Grand Junction over 7 hours late and Sunday's #6 that just departed Sacramento at over 12 hours late I think there will be a couple of days with "two-fers" from the platform here. Nice video! Andrew and I never ended up going to Julesburg. We ended up chasing a grain train on the NKCR to Holyoke, which was pretty cool.

Yeah good afternoon Mike I see that the train 5 is a little better or I should say a lot better. Train 6 is way off! Anyway it's probably a lot better than yesterday. So you know a lot of people getting on and a lot of people getting off today. That's pretty busy.

A rescue engine is coming to tie on and drag the train to Chicago. Tonight's #6 for here is 7 hours late in Utah. May have back-to-back double headers with both Zephyrs over the next couple of days. Too bad Amtrak can't afford to construct even a short high level platform that would help so many of the passengers boarding or exiting the train.

That project has started with the installation of a new transformer/switch box at the west edge of the depot. I have not heard as to when the true work is to commence.
