But that glow is neat on the car sides. I was using a "zoom" mic this morning to pick up the horn music from the train on both sides of the stop. Good evening, Phil; I thank you for stopping by and the comments. I think the nestlings have fledged and are on their own with little supervision form their parents. The parents are now free to roam. The other part of that was my use of a "zoom" mic which is somewhat directional. There was a rooster that wanted the last crow against the departing horn music from the Zephyr. I have not found #816 after it collided with the milk tanker in February a way west of here. I have heard it is still on a siding over near Tampa. That unit had worked the Zephyr for many runs over the years I have been tracking it. They are still listed as P40s but from what I have been told, the mechanical/electrical systems have been updated to P42 standards as well as the installation of the PTC computers. I didn't know they were in use out in California. but it makes sense as those areas are relatively flat as is the territory from Lorton, VA to Florida they run with the "Auto Train". We have lowered the R. Humidity a lot today and as with your area the temps are high, and heat index is lower that other places. Makes it nice for sleep with open windows at night. I don't think we will have any cloudy conditions until this evening. That rooster just had to get the last crow in this morning. He was rather vocal the whole time I was down there. Good morning, Ben; Thanks for dialing in as well as the comments. I watched a video of P40 #824 on a regional run in Illinois yesterday. It has run thru here many times. I know they have been updated and are incognito P42s. They are usually seen on the Auto-Train. Right now, the only ALCs we see are the new units headed east for initial startup as they are ferried east in the #6 consists. This is a sort of quick reply to your question about the P-40 in the Zephyr's consist. P-40s are Amtrak's contribution to the power pool the supports CalTrans Capital Corridor and San Joaquin trains. I believe that the ALC 42 now comprises all of the CalTrans fleet. A few are beginning to enter the pool on the Amtrak side, but P-40s will continue serving for a while longer. Not too long ago, P-40s were regularly seen on #5 and #6, as they rotated in and out of the Oakland based pool. That they are not seen quite as often is evidence that the Siemens locomotives are beginning to appear on the Amtrak side of the Oakland based pool.

Had enough of that over the weekend. That is the one factor I do like out here. It does get hot, but the humidity isn't with it. Yep.
