Love it George. Colors on Panny are my favorite, actually! I am 10 steps away from selling 3/4 of my Fujifilm gear because I have consistently turned to my GX9 with the 15mm 1.7 everywhere and the GM5 with the 14mm f/2.5 on sunny days. Your shots are great and we have a similar style. Always enjoy your videos!

Interesting that you are favoring the GX9 often. I've wondered if the grass greener is on the Fuji side. About a year ago I switched from Pentax DSLR to a GX85. My main criteria was weight and size and I could have put a Fuji system together with the F2 primes that would have been almost the same size/weight as my Lumix system but in the end budget steered me towards Lumix. Like you I am very enamored with colors from the Panleica lenses, I have the 15 and 25. Also just added the Lumix 42.5 which is also lovely (use it mainly for shooting concerts/gigs). I do think the Fuji XT-50 + the F2 primes would make a very sweet street/documentary system but at this point I am in love with the Panasonic lenses. BTW I checked your website, you work is very very good.

@@hanumanguy❤ thank you so much for having a look at my images and for the lovely words! Since I last wrote this, I decided on selling the Fuji gear I used for events and wildlife and keeping just two of my Fuji cameras. One is the X-E2 and the other is the XT-30 mark two. The reason I went in this direction is for the same reason I fell in love with the brand and the first place… The remarkably unique colors and character! I love the warmer Panasonic Leica images as well but will continue to use it alongside the two Fuji bodies. The X-E2 is an unbelievable rendering of color and character, but the X-T30 is much faster. I still use my Panasonic GX nine but where I found it excels the most is in situations where I don’t have a lot of time to compose and shoot. For example, on the streets of New York, I found that the XT 30 was slow to tap to shoot. I don’t always use this method, but When I’m walking through crowds and don’t have time I need to use that touch focus. The Fuji was just not making the shots and holding the camera to your eyes, not ideal. In any case, tools of the trade sometimes! Thank you again.

This is a good camera, but also one that it took me the longest to warm up to - years in fact - than others. It is getting a lot of love now, but at the time seemed to sell badly (forever on sale), and I think it's good if people are aware of some of the limitations. I'm still discovering features inside it as I need them, even years later, so Lumix packed a lot in.

I love the way manufacturers come up with great UX ideas for shooting use cases. I feel a bit spoiled by the Ricoh GRIII currently. The Zone Focus priority mode is game changing. I kind of sit at 2.5m 90% of the time swapping between f4.5 and f6.3 if I want back to infinity in focus, then the camera takes care of the rest. I occasionally will roll the dial to focus at 3.5m or 5m also if it really is pretty far. This is something I'd love to see other brands tackle and put their own spin on. Especially as focus by wire is typically inprecise and the digital distance scale is rather unhelpful most of the time. I am curious about that that tilt EVF. I rarely use an EVF because I personally find eye level to usually be the most boring angle for a POV. So this could be something that changes my mind.

Thank you for this video George. The GX85(80) is a winner. It is small, as well as the lenses. It is lightweight as well as the small primes. It is stupid cheap. Where as I like this body a lot I have voted with my wallet and prefer the GX9. Truth be told there aren’t a lot of differences between the two bodies. 16 vs 20MP isn’t significant. I don’t crop. Most of the improvements on the GX9 are incremental. This seems so silly but the reason I prefer the GX9 is the L monochrome D B&W jpeg. It is my favorite. Sorry Acros with red filter. This was introduced in the G9. Not mentioned is the GX85 has IBIS. A feature I adore. Being a LUMIX body, the GX85 has a lot of video features but lacks an audio jac. For a small body, the GX85 has an EVF. It is small but there. I don’t like the GRiii/x because it lacks this feature. Both the GX85/9 are becoming harder to find. The GX9 is becoming more expensive. It can be up to 2X the price of the GX85. That is crazy. The GX85 is way more than good enough. Technique tip George. I don’t like my screen to flip. I have some flippy screen bodies. If I use one of those bodies and want to take a shot from a low angle I flip the screen to the 90 degree angle to the body. This way the screen doesn’t stick out. I also get a twin lens reflex feel out of the camera a la Vivian Maier. I wish LUMIX would update the GX line. Maybe put the G9ii sensor in the S9 body. Weather seal it and add an audio jac. Wouldn’t that be something? If you don’t own a GX85(80) consider buying one. It is a super body as George suggests. Put the PL15 on this body and it is a super street photography combination. The same for the GX9. Now watch the prices go up. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

The 20mm 1.7 is notoriously slow, but that's not the fault of the camera. I think the 20mm is better used, as you would with a Ricoh GR and do spot focusing. Like if you want to take street photos 5m in front of you on like f5.6 and keep it there until you change to another focus zone. With my other m43 and ff Lumix cameras I wanted a everyday carry and wanted a cheap camera. Got the original Lumix GX7, with the 14mm. It's snappy and I absolutely love shooting it. The cmos sensor is grainy As F over iso 800, but I bought it for 4x6 prints, and it has so much character. Love it! 🥳

@@busydadscooking001 I mainly do video with my Lumix cameras5, so I was ofcourse looking more into the gx80/85 and the gx9, but I came to the conclusion the older sensor would get me closer to the look of the pictures I got with my Ricoh GRii I owned a few years back, and the 14mm would get me the exact focal length as the grii. A 1/8 pro mist filter, and the roll off of the old cmos sensor gives the pictures an organic look. And not to forget the bigger grip on the GX7. So comfortable to hold. I own a GRiiiX, and the focal lenght is way too tight for me, the lens is way too sharp and the lack of the popup flash made it unusable for me, for what I am going for.

Your storytelling, speaking style, and overall video presentation have improved significantly. I truly appreciate the quality and effort you put into these new videos.I especially appreciate that you are producing content about older cameras. As I get older, I find it less important to have the latest tech. For example, over the last two or three years, I have really enjoyed using the Panasonic GX800. It's so small I can take it everywhere, allowing me to capture pictures I wouldn't normally be able to with my Panasonic G9. I just wish the GX800 would get an update to include PDAF.I also owned the GX80 and GX9. However, after comparing the GX800 with the GX9, I found that it doesn't provide me any significant advantage in the field. Or better to say, the advantage of the smaller size outweighs the viewfinder for me.Thank you for creating such engaging content.

Nice one, George! I was eyeing some Olympus cameras for this size of camera and with tilting screen for street, like E-PL7, 8 or 9 (although I think 9 removed some things like ability to add an EVF, so probably 8 is the best). I really value the IBIS in these cameras, for them being so small. I cannot justify getting one right now (since I recently got an E-M5 III and much more recently, a PEN-F), but I will in the future if the opportunity comes!

The 20/1.7 has great glass. Understandable if you delve deep into the exif and find the legend, "unknown Leica". I think it is slow to focus because it has a very fine focus thread, it will focus precisely. On a Panasonic it will disable the AFC and be AFS-only. This can be a drawback, and don't hope to do any kind of action shot. On an Olympus the 20/1.7 may hunt on C-AF. The more versatile PZ14-42 is very much the same size folded and also has excellent glass, but has no focus or zoom rings although it can MF on its toggle switches. The kit lens for the GX80/85 was the 12-32, originally for the GM1, a miniaturised lens with a slightly reduced image circle that can exhibit vignetting. In Japan the camera is the GX7 Mark II, it has Dual-IS which you will certainly notice if you give it a Power-OIS lens like the PZ14-42.

@@GeorgeHolden The worst part about using an iPhone for photos is they look like iPhone photos right? There are a handful of great apps that fix that. I can shoot photos that look like everything from a disposable or instant camera to a Leica M6 or any film simulation I want. All right in my pocket 😊
