At 22 years old, Kennedy Fravel was planning a trip to Costa Rica, but needed a REAL ID and headed to the DMV to replace his driver's license.
"When I looked into the little screen for the eye test, I couldn't see half of the letters," said Fravel. "After that, we scheduled a visit with opthlamologist Dr. Robinson to test my peripheral vision, acuity and color-blindness."
The loss of vision Fravel was experiencing suggested something potentially worrying. Dr. Robinson sent Fravel and his family straight to the emergency room, where he and his family received startling news. There was a mass at the base of Fravel's skull, which the doctors soon diagnosed as a tumor pressing on his optic nerve.
His #PrismaHealth care team was able to perform a craniotomy, removing most of the mass. Their careful approach resulted in a successful recovery, with annual MRIs to help ensure the tumor doesn't return.
Fravel, meanwhile, was able to return to school, graduate with a 4.0 and move forward in building the future he dreams about - including a plan to attend medical school and provide the same compassionate care for future patients that he received from Prisma Health.
