Lyrics: A charge to keep I have, A God to glorify, A never-dying soul to save, And fit it for the sky. To serve the present age, My calling to fulfill: O may it all my powers engage To do my Master’s will! Arm me with jealous care, As in Thy sight to live; And O Thy servant, Lord, prepare A strict account to give! Help me to watch and pray, And on Thyself rely, Assured, if I my trust betray, I shall for ever die.

My God.... My God... My God... I don't know what else to say.... BUT..... MY GOD...!!! I am on fire right now WORDS cannot express,,!! Thank you Jesus for the days of old. My God... My God... HE HEARD MY CRY...!! Amen

I wasn't going to make a comment about this song, but my mind goes back, to the slaves working, and crying out to God for help. This kind of singing is from the heart. God heard their prayer, and not only delivered them, but blessed future generations.Now we got some with million dollar contracts, buisness owners, and yes, the president of the United States.What a mighty God we serve !

I assume you were talking about Obama. If so, you have NO clue what you are talking about. My heart bleeds for "Christians" that think like this. Lord, please forgive! Maranatha!

There is something about those old hymns that always reminds us where we came from and how hard our ancestors prayed for better days. Just them crying out to God no organ, no drums, no piano, just saints singing and moanin’
@mactown9121023 күн бұрын
I close my eyes and i envision my ancestors living through the worst possible conditions and still having the spiritual ability to still call upon our heavenly father's name. If only we were as strong as them and had just a morsel of their faith.

I grew up with Reverend Preston, II. His father baptised me and we are family. I am so blessed to have been reared in the Peaceful Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Mother Preston is also a wonderful singer. She can sing- God Specializes. To God be the Glory for this wonderful spirit filled family!.

Can't help it...tears streaming down my face... here is another one... "A charge to keep I have, a God to glorify, a never-dying soul to save, and fit it for the sky. "To serve the present age, my calling to fulfill; O may it all my powers engage to do my Master's will."
@RickeyDavis110 жыл бұрын
My Grandfather's taught me this hymn when I was 5 years old, it was his favorite. He and I would open devocation every forth Sunday together at our home church. Why is it, I raised this hymn at my church months ago I was the only one singing?

Time for us to bring hymn lining back and keep the tradition going...

These new Christians have forgotten the soulful heart-wrenching hymns which got us through the rough times...we've gotten too comfortable and all we desire to hear now is songs and sermons of reaping gifts in the flesh.

Because this new Age generation being fooled by Satanic influence that tell them God is only moved through CERTAIN ways of having church. I just read where the Bible told them to teach their daughters how to Wait and Lamente. Now, we gotta have a Jump and Fake Shout,,, no substance and a Praise Team competition,,,,,,Sit DOWN

This is so wonderful. If someone came in and tried to force you to give up these traditions that are the bedrock of your faith and culture, you would fight them with every ounce of strength. But that isn't what is happening now. Instead, the church is handing them over. Giving them up, bit by bit... and letting the Christian Entertainment Industry crowd them out.
@LassieSgr10 жыл бұрын
so are you for this or agin it?

Yes Mr. Pressley, this is that good ole worship music that ushers the Lords presence in. These hymns helped strengthen people in the earlier years and thank god that I had the chance to be brought up in a time that they were still singing them. I will be 33 in a couple of weeks and I know the importance of this music.
