Leicester's Curve has released a brand-new trailer for its 2021 revival of A Chorus Line!
Directed by Nikolai Foster with choreography by Ellen Kane, the piece features a book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante, music by Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by Edward Kleban.
It tells the tale of a group of auditionees hoping to land a dream role, and includes numbers such as "One", "I Hope I Get It", "Nothing" and "What I Did For Love".
Appearing in the cast are Adam Cooper, taking on the role of director/choreographer Zach, and Carly Mercedes Dyer as auditionee Cassie.
Alongside Dyer, returning to Curve are a variety of performers who previously appeared in the venue's hit revival of West Side Story in 2019, including Ronan Burns as Bobby Mills, Beth Hinton-Lever as Bebe Benzenheimer, Katie Lee as Kristine Ulrich and Redmand Rance as Mike Costa.
The cast is completed by Emily Barnett-Salter as Sheila Bryant, Eamonn Cox as Swing, Bradley Delarosbel as Gregory Gardner, Lizzy-Rose Esin-Kelly as Diana Morales, André Fabien Francis as Richie Walters, Ainsley Hall Ricketts as Paul San Marco, Joshua Lay as Al Deluca, Kanako Nakano as Judy Turner, Hicaro Nicolai as Swing, Jamie O'Leary as Mark Anthony, Tom Partridge as Don Kerr, Rachel Jayne Picar as Connie Wong, Chloe Saunders as Val Clarke, Charlotte Scott as Maggie Winslow, Hollie Smith-Nelson as Swing, Marina Tavolieri as Swing and Taylor Walker as Larry.
The production has set design by Grace Smart, musical supervision from David Shrubsole, costume design by Edd Lindley, lighting by Howard Hudson, sound design by Tom Marshall and musical direction by Tamara Saringer. The show is cast by Curve Associate Kay Magson CDG.
A Chorus Line is scheduled to run from 3 to 31 December 2021.

They have some Big Shoes to fill. Better hope people say the same things they're saying about the New West Side Story. It's hard to make a GREAT show better.

Went to see it opening night. Never seen it before or really knew what it was about but it was SO GOOD. Nikolai Foster's direction is always amazing.

for someone who did over 2,000 shows and over 12 different productions (one of them being the 1st Revival Broadway National Tour), THE ORIGINAL PIECE IS TIMELESS, AND THATS THAT! NOTHING CAN TOP IT! DONT CHANGE THINGS THAT ARE TIMELESS!!!

although i respect and admire your work on Chorus Line over the years, i respectfully disagree. it’s always dangerous to not allow for change even when things are considered “timeless”. the reality is, as theatre progresses, it becomes more diverse and inclusionary, meaning diverse prospectives and more opportunity for more voices that have been traditionally unheard. we have to be able to appreciate and cherish what worked about the original while also allowing for new visions and takes. those two things do not have to be mutually exclusive. For example, a Chorus Line is my all time favorite musical of all time (yes the original OBC) but as an actor of color, i would’ve liked to see diversity represented better- that is a new concept- producing musicals that accurately represent the diversity of this country. That is just one example of how revisiting classics, even masterpieces, have value. The new choreography may work but it may not work because, yes, Michael Bennett’s dancing was genius, but even if the new stuff crashes and burns, why should an inclusive and improved theatre environment not be able to take a crack at it? why does it have to mean the classic no longer exists? the first non-adapted american musical theatre was minstrelsy. if we all had a mindset that art cannot be revisited and reimagined and reworked, i for sure wouldn’t be allowed on stage. Just my thoughts.

Pretty sure the shots of the audience are stills. No audience is that non-reactive to One lol.

They changed the iconic kick line at the end of "One" that the audience is eagerly anticipating. I wouldn't applaud either.

Could you provide me with information on which version has been confirmed by Baayork? The plot or narrative of this work may not resonate with the younger generation, but it holds significance in the history of musicals. Why has it been revived to this extent?

The only reason to do new choreography is if you can make it better. As Val says, “That ain’t it, kid.”

@marcuspd7502 well technically, if you are saying the only reason to do new Choreography is if you can make it better, then yes, you want the same over and over again. The original is a masterpiece that can never be replaced. Take a seat boo.

I’ve seen a lot of comments upset about the “tweaking” of the source material. While i understand the love and admiration for what is the masterpiece of the original Chorus Line- i respectfully disagree with your frustration at this version. And here’s why: it’s always dangerous to not allow for change even when things are considered “timeless”. the reality is, as theatre progresses, it becomes more diverse and inclusionary, meaning diverse prospectives and more opportunity for more voices that have been traditionally unheard. we have to be able to appreciate and cherish what worked about the original while also allowing for new visions and takes. those two things do not have to be mutually exclusive. I'm tired of Michael Bennett's choreography actually. Now that the show is available for everyone to do, even high school versions copy his choreography. Someone has to break away from the same old formula and try to breathe life into this old show. They also need to update the celebrity references in the show and not just the costumes.

Coming from a theatre nerd, seeing a broadway musical improve throughout the decades is an amazing thing to see, as each year it gets more special and holds a bigger spot in people's hearts. Think of it as a broadway tradition!
