Blown away right here. There is hope for the world that a high school drama department had the balls to do this show. The kids are amaaaaaaazing; their faculty director/producer must be a truly gifted human being.

The people saying this is "terrible" are ridiculous. Yes, it IS a high school production. I don't know many High Schools that are capable of putting on a production with quality such as this. The amount of talent in this school is RIDICULOUS. And a show such as Chorus Line - in general should never be done in a high school, because it's really challenging, plus the adult nature of the show. But the entire group approached the material so strongly you can't help but just sit back and watch. In particular, Jessica Bezek, Zac Fletcher, and Izzy Gervasoni really impressed me. With work and commitment, they have strong careers ahead of them if they choose.

Agreed. I'm amused by people who don't even have learner's permits to drive yet ripping this apart and insisting how much more amazing THEIR school's show was. This is a great performance for a high school.

Any complaining is certainly not coming from me! I live in freakin New York City and seen sooooo many B'day shows ( I know you all have to) including Annie (the movie is NOTHING compared to the original show), Dreamgirls, In the Heights, Book of Mormon, The Wiz....I personally think this is great!!! I LOVE when young people do things like this, classic shows. Can you imagine? These guys are keeping theater and art ALIVE!! By the way, only my opinion but they speak SO WELL. Most of them sound like professionals! Have you listened to the original Broadway cast album! These High School people should be commended!! Just sayin'

The young lady playing Morales is a star. Seriously, her acting is on point and she's got a great voice. Such a wonderful face and really great stage presence. I hope she stays with it.. she'll have to fight for it because she's Latina and Hollywood doesn't make a ton of roles for Latina women, I just hope she makes it. She has it.

Hollywood and Broadway discriminate against all Latins. The industry thinks there is only one minority. It is silly that they have all this distracting nonsense during her number.

For the people who are full of criticism why do you waste your time and energy. This is an amateur performance. If it was Broadway one might wonder. In fact it is a credible production and an heroic effort for a school in an America that has pretty much dumped any cultural curriculum in the education system. Music, Art once were standard in every Public school in america, beginning in elementary school. That has pretty much disappeared. So bravo to the students, teachers and all faculty who have supported this effort.

Five minutes in and I was being pretty internally judgey about the production, but you make a good point. If these are high school students, well then good on them for even trying. This is a very dance-heavy show, that is supposed to be dancers of the highest level competing for a few precious roles in a new dance production. In New York. On Broadway. So this was very brave of high school kids to do.

+Manuel Guzman I saw the revival in 2008 - 9. I had always wondered what all the fuss was about. Happened to be in NY when the revival was playing and went (actually, was kind of dragged) to see it. When we left that theater, I knew what all the fuss was about! The "lady in red" (with the history with the director) - I have NEVER seen anyone dance like that before. Ever. My boss is from NY (actually, his address is 2211 Broadway - Upper West Side - The Apthorp) and he knows that actress/dancer. When she came out for her curtain call, the place just went berserk! I kind of felt bad for the rest of them - because they were all fantastic.

I've just watched this and was totally impressed with the acting and production. I've seen the Broadway touring production three times. But I've also seen a "semi-professional" production and this one totally blew it away. My cheeks are sore from smiling all the way through and teared up a few times. My heart goes out to all the actors in this and hope they had a great/fun time doing it and are proud of their accomplishment. Bravo!

People who are being critical obviously haven't been to many high school productions. This is a very difficult show and these students did very well. They weren't perfect, but I'd like to see most people try to pull this off. I thought they were convincing and very entertaining. Yes, the mikes were very distracting. Camouflage them in flesh tone or hide them in hair pieces. I wanted to do this show so badly when it first came out, but it was too expensive to obtain the rights. It was also deemed too R-rated for a high school in those days. I did get to dance in "One Singular Sensation " in a variety show, however. Toughest number I ever did, but it turned out pretty well. The crowd loved it.
@SissyFlower5
@SissyFlower5 8 жыл бұрын
+HistoryMovieCritic The dancing wasn't prefect, but for a high school production it was actually extremely impressive! Dancing is almost always one of the weakest parts of high school shows, since they don't usually specifically audition dancers, just actors and singers. So you end up with a lot of kids with no dance training whatsoever. In most high school shows I've been to, the dancing consisted of jazz squares and maybe some kicks. The choreography they pulled off, by that standard, is unbelievable!

I've seen my share of good high school productions and bad ones. A Chorus Line is a challenging show, even for professionals. This production was one that could rank way up there as outstanding. For those who can't find anything good to say, remember that these are high school students who are in school all day and likely spent all of their free time rehearsing. The quality of this performance is exceptional, the talent superb and the orchestra all were on point. I've seen this show on Broadway and at universities. This high school production is just as good. Paul's monologue especially stood out. For the few imperfections noted, the overall tone and enthusiasm more than made up for them. Congratulations cast and crew! You've done your school proud.

I'm amazed they could find that many boys willing to dance; guess things have changed since I was in High School 60 years ago. The guy who kept staring at his feet was a nice touch; there's always a dancer who can't break that habit. I studied at the largest and perhaps best known dance school in New York back in the 50's (Jack Stanly's) and Jack always said it took 7 years to produce a dancer, so it's ridiculous to compare this production to the Broadway show. (Yes, there are the Mozarts who are exceptions to the rule.) This is a really good effort at a very challenging show.

I just watched it again as I could not believe how well you all did this. Some other stand out performances should be mentioned. The young man who played Mark was EXCELLENT ! Your timing for comedy was uncanny!!! I loved watching you during the quiet moments. you stayed true to your character. Good Job. I played Al in the show so I watched Russell Nicolson play the character. I must be just a hair more critical about him as it was my character... that is not to say that I did not enjoy your portrayal - I did. Bryan Hill, you were one of my favorites in this production. Loved your "I Can Do That". You played the Italian Mike Costa like a pro. Davis Warren , your Zack was superub!!! My boy Sidney Kenneth Beckenstein...you rocked!!! Don Kerr - great vocal rendition. Loved your monoloug before the montage. I would be terribly remissed if I did not mention Andres Moledo - Paul San Marco. You were amazing! Your delivery of the Paul Monoloug touched my heart.

+Robert Crowe I was just thinking the same thing. I feel sure the original book was somewhat . . . redacted, if you will. But it is interesting how different schools and regions value different things. (I'm from football/basketball/baseball/athletic America). Now, if you've got a state championship football game (or band competition) going on . . . we're all over it! LOL! But I'm not sure the high school here even has a drama dept. (and if it does, I'm sure there are VERY few male members). You would never know it. All part of the stew, I suppose . . .

I went to a high school that highly valued athletes and lowly valued thespians. However the drama teacher was amazing and produced some amazing productions despite having small casts and small budgets. There's people who are confused about the the mics on the actors' foreheads: that technique is standard Broadway/off-Broadway/professional miking. I use this technique all the time. It gives a great capture of voices without the irritation of actors accidentally rubbing or hitting the mic when they touch their face. Given the fact the mics that I use have different skin color element cables to hide it more so than a black mic on a white person.

I think the reason the only Asian chick wasn't cast as Connie Wong was because that little white girl who did play "Connie Mackenzie" was probably the best dancer in the entire cast and it would have been a waste of her talent not to give her one of the featured roles. I actually would have liked to see her play "Cassie;" I'm sure she was a better dancer than the girl who played Cassie. I think because her diminutive size, however, the obvious role for her was "Connie."

For high school , this has got to be the best production I have seen of this or any musical. The vocals, acting, full orchestra, although a couple of added segments but on point, however, the dancing was clearly beginner first year dance studio! And that's what turns me off, as I come from dance.....This entire show is about professionally trained dancers doing Broadway , etc. I guess we should look past that but look at story in itself.

This was actually extremely good! The girl who played Val wasn't my favorite, she did overact it a little bit. But everything else was pretty damn good.

These are teenagers?! Man as a teacher myself I could only wish wish wish my students could and WOULD do this! We had to do West Side Story with a full female cast because no boy would participate

as a teen who does both theater clubs at my school (I'm at an all girls high, we have our own drama club, and our sister school (boys school) has their own, which we are allowed to participate in), it's so annoying how many boys do the boys' school club just to be with girls. every time we do a major musical we have about 5-7 boys, and 15-25 girls. its like... why do we bring up boys to feel as though theater is for girls/queer people??? its a fun way to express yourself, and get to know yourself and others better...

I was about to jump on and criticize until the comments made clear that this was a high school production. They really should make that clear. I had thought it a professional production which was woefully miscast. I was wrong and am humbled for the comments that were going through my head.

They are doing a remarkable job for creative arts students. Amazing. The show makes zero sense unless they are professional dancers though. It just doesn't. There are so many brilliant musicals for singer/dancer/actors that can fully cater to a young talented cast but this is not one of them.

Why did they make Connie white? They had an asian girl in the opening number who seemed pretty dang good. That said- great propduction, guys. For Highschool, it's incredibly impressive. Maggie is amazing. Her voice is so lovely.

I thought the same thing about Connier...But, The production is admirable.A few were really good. But many went flat, often! With that sasid do not think my high school could have ever pulled it off

This is just my opinion. I do not know any of these young and talented people. I think the reason they made Connie white was because that little girl who played her is the single best dancer in the production and it would have been a waste of her talent not to use her in one of the featured roles.

My point is that the lyrics are meant for much older adults to look back at their first sexual encounters and puberty. Most of these performers are in the middle of that to be singing like they remember "how it was". This show's themes are nothing they have experienced yet.

Hannah Lee mics on the foreheads is common practice in Broadway/off-Broadway/Summer stock theatre. It may look obnoxious, but there’s many reasons behind it.

That's what you'll see on every professional stage. Bear in mind the audience are nowhere near as close as the camera is getting so the mics won't be visible.
