Loved your video, thanks for sharing! Apart from the learning element, I find the way you talk about these fossils, and handle them, to be quite soothing. There is no distracting music or other annoying fancy stuff, just you with your relaxing voice showing us around in the world of fossils. Would love to see you doing more of these video's, for example discussing particular fossils while going through them (e.g. dinosaur bones and to which species they belong, etc). Not sure if this is your field of expertise, but one can always try! :)

Love your channel! I'm from Michigan and been working with a paleontologist From MSU bc I discovered prehistoric teeth and bone scientists have never seen in my state or the surrounding. The only thing I would suggest is better lighting and getting real close-up on the internal structure of bone. You are a gem on KZfaq though. Keep it up!!

Awesome video! It definitely takes a practiced eye to pick fossils out of the dirt and rocks that look like... dirt and rocks. You and Brad seem to have that keen eye, I'm still working on mine. Hey guys, I have wood fossils that I collected... I live near carboniferous deposits... but I found something that looks like bone and want to be more definitive as I am far from expert! I'll release a vid later and would love you to watch it... but more than that, it's not hard to make a stand for your phone out of scraps of wood. Then you can just get a desk lamp, then you can clearly film your samples and point out the various features! I would love to see that as I can kinda see what you are talking about but would like to see clearer images. Please don't take this as a negative, I love what you are doing here, I want to see more!

This last Saturday me and my brother found massive amounts of Red "crystal". I told my brother, "it looks like someone was bleeding out all over the place". We collected some samples, and one sample is clearly a bone shard with Red blood like crystal running through a hole into the bone. We also found sponge like red crystal, of different grains, and a black sponge almost like rust. One small piece of red crystal is layered to a center point with a clear crystal in the middle. I am convinced what ever was killed died a violent and quick death, grinding it to nothing but small pieces.

I have piles of those gastrolyphs and bone. What kind of saw blade do you use? I have some diamond blades for circular saws, table saws, and a 12” compound miter. Would those work?
@diggingwyoming74982 жыл бұрын
The saws you mention would not be good for cutting stones. You need constant coolant running over the rock while it is being cut. And it's very messy. You really need a rock cutting machine. We have a 14" and 18" Highland Park. Put the stone in. Lock it down and turn the machine on. It doe's all the work. For smaller stones. Inland Lap has some affordable flat laps. You can cut,grind, polish and cab with them.

Nice collection; great educational video. I think it is s shame that the USG doesn't allow citizens to collect bones on BLM land anymore. I've seen dino bones washing out of the clay in the Hellcreek formation, for example, that are breaking up and turning to dust. I remember collecting bones in the Morrison Formation vic Medicine Bow in my youth when it was legal. Taking high school classes on digs would go a long ways toward getting teenagers interested in science again. But I won't hold my breath. Now I'm looking for my own piece of property to collect my own specimens.

@diggingwyoming74983 жыл бұрын
Bones and fossils can be many different colors depending on where they were buried and what minerals and silicates replace the bone. Those that have been replaced by silicates can be brightly colored and smooth and take a nice polish. I imagine over time people probably made tools from petrified bones. Here in Wyoming some early pioneers actually built small cabins from dino bones.
