Let's sit down and take a look at this old Jonsered 70E chainsaw that I love. Made in the late 70s/early 80s by Jonsereds Fabrikers in Sweden. It still cuts great and delivers good power. A neat old saw that I really enjoy!

the coil bolting to the cylinder would indicate the #2 version, found on later production saws, the "module" bolted to the floor of the air box to the right of the carburetor is part of that OEM ignition system, it is not and after market add on. The flywheel on the #2 was also aluminum. The flywheel on the first ignition version saws was steel with a plastic fan assembly that bolted on to that steel hub and the coil was mounted in the upper part of the recoil starter housing, no remote module in the air box like the version #2. Version #1 had a SEM module bolted to the crankcase underneath the flywheel assembly. The randomly drilled holes in top of the recoil were there supposedly for air circulation around the coil, I do not think it to be factory but somewhere along the way operators decided that ventillation was needed to offset failing coils. Not all saws have that modification.
