A compact and versatile programmable power feed for my mill

While waiting for some parts for my tiny table top band saw, a short project to bridge the gap.
Over a year ago I built a very compact power feed for my milling machine. Worked fine, a bit simple and lacked flexibility. Here I am building an improved version, which is also nicer to look at :-)
Sorry.. No music this time.

Found the controller Chip F002081T. For the insiders some info: The MM32F0020 microcontroller is based on the Arm Cortex-M0 core. These devices have a maximum clocked frequency of 48MHz, built-in 32KB Flash storage, and contain and extensive range of peripherals and I/O ports. These devices contain one 12-bit ADC, one 16-bit advanced timer, one 16-bit general purpose timer and one 16-bit basic timer, as well as communication interfaces including one I2C, one SPI and two UART.

Absolutely cool stuff! Love the fact it does not need a clutch 😊

Thanks! I considered a small 24V DC electromagnetic clutch, but in this case it turned out to be really unnecessary.

Tip for measuring distance between two holes with a caliper... start by measuring the diameter of one hole. Reset the caliper to zero. Now measure between the distance between the outside walls of the two holes. The caliper will now show you the distance between the center of the holes
@Michel-Uphoff
@Michel-Uphoff Ай бұрын
This only works well if both holes have the same diameter, and of course you need a digital caliper.

I have watched this video and the previous one a few times , I think it’s sunk in mostly but I would like to add limit switch any suggestions as to how to wire it in ? Sorry to ask but I restore antique clocks and am in no way electronic minded. Thanks in advance Dell

Ignore my last message I see you answered it already enable - but dose that enable or disable because my micro switch has both. But can I ask why the four wires to the on/off switch.
@Michel-Uphoff
@Michel-Uphoff 4 ай бұрын
@@torsiondell The on/off switch turns the power on and off, that makes sense. But the circuit between the coils of the motor and the stepper driver is also interrupted by this switch. If you didn't do that, and you turn the hand wheel while the feed is not being used, you also turn the motor shaft and then the motor generates energy, like a dynamo. That energy is then supplied back to the driver, which can be harmful to the driver's electronics. Moreover, without being completely switched off, the motor offers more resistance to rotation.

@@Michel-Uphoff thanks for the explanation so what do you connect the other two terminals to and what switch would I need to get ? Sorry to ask so many questions but you seem to know what you are doing unlike a lot on KZfaq

hmmm a set of those controllers somehow linked together driving two steppermotors in sinq but at different speed could make for a verry acurate cilinder honing machine , to get the right hatch pattern in a cilinder you need to controll the speed of the up and down (crank) and the rpm of the hone and the dwell at the top and bottom , if the cilinder diameter changes the settings change too as with a bigger diameter the stones travel faster along the cilinderwalls at the same rpm

The controller is not cheap, barelly afordable .

Beautiful work, but I'm kindof irked that you used slotted screws to finish everything.

Good job but soldering the wires instead of using screw terminals is a bad practice. You should have made the enclosure a little bit bigger instead.

Please do not present your opinion as a fact, that's rude. Michel may have good reasons for doing it this way, why don't you ask before you judge?

Nice. How's torque at lower speeds? Another vote for limit switches here, too.
@Michel-Uphoff
@Michel-Uphoff 5 ай бұрын
It's a stepper motor. Torque is highest at low rpm. Although limit switches would be very easy to implement (a signal to EN- is sufficient), I don't need them. The stepper motor simply stops at the ends of the table without problems and the rattling sound will warn me I wasn't paying attention. But more convenient, I can specify the travel distance, and whether to stop or reverse after that distance. The spindle has 2 mm pitch, and the stepper has 200 steps per revolution. So a hundred steps is exactly one mm. I just tell the controller to generate 10357 pulses and the table will travel 103.57 mm and comes to a halt (or returns).
