• Update (6/17): MemoryC reached out with an apology and explanation, and offered several fair options to remedy the situation including a full refund option which I've decided to go with. They confirmed my hunch that the supplier (the one I mentioned at 7:47) to which they forwarded the board for repair had lost the board, and were upfront about the mistake in not sending an equivalent board and also not at least offering the replacement first, instead of just sending it unsolicited. They said my emails going un-answered was not intentional and that they don't operate that way, and explained it was because an upgrade to their ticketing system was causing my tickets to not show up for some reason. Which I assume is a simplified explanation but I guess I'll choose to take their word for it. Overall I'd say they seemed genuinely apologetic. I'll probably make a follow up video soon with more details once everything is fully sorted.
• Update 2 (6/18): I received the full refund today and have shipped back the Z690 Hero motherboard to them, so I consider the issue fully resolved.

I once bought an extended warranty for a graphics-card and had to invoke it a year later; they no longer carried that model and gave me the next closest thing they had, which was a bit of an upgrade. they've said they're "ignoring" warranties" worldwide regardless if you get a DOA motherboard and return it on day one. They have openly said if people are unhappy "they can just sue for their money back". this isn't so much bridges burned, as the bridge has been burned (made existing customers angry), the buildings NEAR the bridge have been evacuated (ASUS on blocklists of hundreds of companies now) and a 3 megaton nuke is headed straight for the river. (lawsuits in dozens of countries). I will be surprised if ASUS even exists within 2years. Or hasn't renamed itself to try to escape the bad publicity.

My read of the situation is that the "vendor" referred to by MemoryC support is probably whatever smuggler got them access to the grey market boards. The two of them (Vendor and MemoryC) are probably splitting a profit on the price difference between economies (and trying to get a markup on top of that), so I'm not keen to call either of them legitimate (even in quotation marks) or act surprised when they conveniently stop responding.

I had a problem with a third-party vendor (not MemoryC) on Walmart's site. In my case, I was sent a defective external optical drive and even though I contacted the vendor numerous times, I could not get a RMA or refund. Therefore, I contacted Walmart's customer service and they tried dealing with the vendor, but Walmart also experienced problems with them. Ultimately, Walmart issued me a full refund. If MemoryC does not solve the problem, I suggest getting Walmart involved. MemoryC probably does not want to lose their affiliation with Walmart, so they may have greater impetus to resolve the matter.

I'd say that there are legitimate use cases for region locking support. As an example, if I bought a radio from Sony Europe, I wouldn't expect Sony USA to be able to fix it, since both countries have completely different radio standards. Or if I bought a Japanese Import car, I wouldn't expect Honda USA to support all the Japan-specific car models, because Japanese-market cars have different needs, regulations, and components than American-market cars. I've come across multiple domain issues myself and it's a real pain because in making contact, everyone shrugs their should and says nothing to do with me, you need to contact companies where you bought it for help. ASUS is a real pain like this and won't help you make contact with the relevant branch. All this means that you're left holding a broken, useless and expensive product! Here in Ireland the MemoryC website shows the Irish flag and "100% Irish" below it, so was interesting seeing it show the USA flag in the video. I have only bought USB powerbanks and flash drives from them as they are usually cheaper than Amazon UK and are one of the few online retailers I can purchase a powerbank from as Amazon UK, Germany, etc. will not ship lithium ion batteries (which Powerbanks contain) to Ireland due to International postal restrictions. So far I haven't had to RMA anything with MemoryC.

Get in touch with your bank/credit card about initiating a chargeback. For extenuating circumstances (especially if you showed good faith to work with the vendor and the vendor is overseas), they'll often extend the chargeback period. Simultaneously, tell MemoryC that you are looking at doing a chargeback if they don't ship you a proper replacement ASAP and also send a prepaid shipping label for the existing "replacement". As you said, you want to be made whole. That means either getting a board of the level you paid for, or getting your money back.

It's headaches like this that I don't buy from third party sellers on Amazon or wherever, unless it's for very cheap items that don't matter so much. Selling you a grey import without telling you is a scam so the law is on your side. Hope you get a proper replacement motherboard. Personally, I'd be demanding a full refund at this point and given the $1000 cost, perhaps threaten them with court action if they don't comply.

Gigabyte is one of my trusted reliable companies. Them and NZXT have always gone beyond what I've requested of them. I'd be interested in what went wrong with them for you. EVGA that everyone fanboys about has been the bain of my existence. They use cheap proprietary parts on their boards to stop people from repairing them. $22US + 40 shipping from AU for a replacement HDMI port for an EVGA graphics card is absurd. I have over a dozen EVGA cards in my bin that are unrepairable because of EVGA manufacturing obsolescence.

A similar thing actually happened to me, where some earbuds I bought off Amazon stopped working, well within the warranty period, but when I wanted to claim that warranty they wouldn't do it because it was a Chinese version. The worst part was that the seller stopped selling that model by then and I found no way of contacting them (it was unclear to me whether it was Amazon or a 3rd party), so all I could do was talk to Amazon directly, who would only either refund me _half_ its price, or offer a replacement (which I didn't want because of other issues I'd had), and it was like a one-time thing Overall, not _nearly_ as bad, just thought it was similar enough to share lol

I've been working on a spreadsheet for building a new computer and have 5 motherboards to choose from, 3 from MSI, 2 from Gigabyte, all with the Z790 chipset for a thirteenth gen i7 processor with DDR5 memory (32GB). I use Partpicker to get the prices, average them by counting up the places they find an item at, then add up each price and then divide them by how many sources Part picker has found them at to get an average price. On several occasions, MemoryC was listed, and always considerably more expensive, when a MB is costing $187 say, MemoryC has it for closer to $300. The 187 board is the Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX X, FYI. Before this project, never heard of this Memory C company before.

Wow! Thanks for the heads up! I wonder if Walmart can help with this problem someway. Sounds like an issue if the board is hard to find as well as ASUS right now going through some big RMA changes maybe resulting in long waiting times. But if the board's serial number was already submitted, at the very least that company needs to give you your money back or at least part of it if you keep the other board. Obviously if it was submitted for RMA from someone else, they will be given a board back or money back so they may be pocketing it. Hopefully they will do the right thing or they will go on the bad list for places not to shop at.

I had a similar experience, with the Razer Blackwidow V3 Mini Hyperspeed, in June of 2023 Razer published a firmware update that made the keys of the keyboard double or even triple register upon press, and it occurred almost constantly. A few weeks after, in July, they published an update to address the issue, but it didn't address it entirely (made it less severe). I contacted customer support, and was constantly redirected to the firmware download page (which wasn't helpful). And I couldn't make a warranty claim because I modified the keyboard (lubricated the switches), despite doing it more than half a year before the issue began. I tried finding the firmware version that my keyboard shipped with (which worked fine) on Razer's website, and couldn't find anything.

Another thing: spent some time researching buying a complex device. Looked on various places, including Amazon, with various reviews. A few complained they received previously unpacked item - obviously a return. One device model I was after was marked on the supplier website as no longer available (not produced anymore). The last one of that kind was on Amazon, I couldn't find it anywhere else. I gave it a miss. Next day it was gone. I could almost bet it was one of those returned ones. Even if it wasn't, it probably won't have many spare parts available if it broke within warranty. I think I saved myself quite some hassle.
