Very important question: What do you use to store your cube/energies? Best thing I've found is the 'Card Barrier Box' made by KMC. It's plastic and locks closed so that nothing will fall out. It stores about 800 sleeved cards, so I use it to store my Cube and an empty Elite Trainer Box to store my energy.

Dude, super awesome and informative. I've had one that my friends and I randomly made with not much balance. We have it to where every Pokemon can be played as a basic and every Pokemon counts as a basic energy of its own type. Super fun, this way you don't have to add basic energy to the deck.

For a singleton cube and to make it more like an evolutions matter way to play that simulates pokemon evolving to overcome a stronger opponent, evolution are kept outside of the game, and when a basic is knocked out, after the opponent picked up their prize, you flip a coin and if you get heads you remove half the damage counters rounded down, and bring the evolution card in from outside the game ^^. Not sure if it’d be balanced, but it would definitely be fun.

I love the video.When I first try cube I try mutant but my friends never wanted to play. One thing I like mine is that the “packs” weren’t just random. I will put one of each type, a supporter, a trainer and a random card between stadium energies and tools. The reason why is that way people can draft cards that help the player or pick a must have in their decks. If the opponent gets to see a trainer or supporter passed up you know he is getting really strong Pokémon.

Thank you for this video ❤️ I'm in the middle of rearranging all my storage and stuff so I'm figuring out what to do with all my cards (especially since I can't afford to keep collecting right now). I've heard of cube-drafts before but never fully understood what they are. I might try making one aimed at casual players so I play with my family using my boxes full of cards I have laying around.
@Dixavd
@Dixavd 6 жыл бұрын
When it comes to making a draft for complete novices to build decks from, do you think keeping the Pokemon and Trainer/etc... cards in separate draft packs might be good? I fear my friends who are used to other card games might get transfixed on only picking trainer cards (i.e. what they refer to as "the engine of a deck") and not get enough pokemon. Whereas, I think my mum might only pick pokemon she likes and not get enough supporters.
@OmniPoke
@OmniPoke 6 жыл бұрын
For very casual players you want to play around with ratios to allow an abundance of supporter and item cards to give everyone an easy time of getting decks going (you can even use multiple copies of good supporters rather than singletons to make it less work to read and figure out what everything does)

Joe! Thank you for the video. I was on the process of building a Cube, but the lack of information and interest made me stop mid-way. That was the best source for any Cubes out there, I really apreciate it. I do have a question for you, though: Does the Power Creep get in the way of the Cube? I was thinking of not using BW-on Pokémon, but I see that you use lots of them. Blaziken is a good example, with the RS Base having only 100 HP, and the Furious Fists one being a more potent Blaziken ex but only giving 1 prize
@OmniPoke
@OmniPoke 6 жыл бұрын
Power creep is something to be very careful of when picking which cards to use, usually picking evolutions with less drastic jumps in damage and hit points is advised (in the case of blaziken with 100hp, it's actually one of the strongest picks because Acceleration is broken!)

This is an awesome idea and such a thorough guide thanks! Couple questions can this be done with only two people? If so how many cards would you recommend including in the cube? Also, would a mutant draft be a good idea for someone with a smaller collection? Im more of a casual collector and don't have 4-5 of each evolution line.
@OmniPoke

Proxying is usually where i'd start if you want to go on a budget and even to try out different ideas without fully committing. I've successfully cubed with 3 people a (where we each drafted and built 2 decks so had the amount of cards of a 6 person draft) I think it's trickier with 2 people as you are fully aware of what the other player is picking, you'd have to come up with a creative means of drafting to make things more secretive or random
@dooganhead6599
@dooganhead6599 6 жыл бұрын
OmniPoke thanks for the response! I think maybe I will go. The proxy route then as that seems like a good option. As far as playing with two players that's a good point on keeping what we are drafting secret. I'm honestly not sure how to go about that rather than have us draw from totally separate pools. Maybe each person has their own pool and they draw one and then discard the next.

Great video Joe! I'm wanting to build a 480 card cube with no electric type, would it be fine to change all of the water cards to be weak to grass for balancing? Just so you can understand the idea I have, it would be 2 triangles, Fire Water Grass and Fighting Ghost Dark with normal being Porygon Z and Dodrio.

Hey Joe, brilliant video as always! Huge fan of the channel, and always will be! Quick question, do you think you could make a balanced power level cube with EXs and GXs? I have wayyy more of the Sun & Moon sets than any of the older era cards. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!
@OmniPoke
@OmniPoke 6 жыл бұрын
it's probably a difficult task to be honest, as everyone will just swarm toward the bigger cards and ignore all the others, perhaps moving away from singleton is the best bet if you want to go that route and just pack the cube full of gx and ex's (usually though there is such a big difference on going first because the jump in HP and attacks is so ridiculous that basically whoever gets the first big hitter out wins :P) You'd probably need to be very generous with item draw/search and have an abundance of supporters to make the cube as close to standard format as possible for success!

Thanks for this video. I'm currently on a journey to get a cube created, although its a bit atypical. I was wondering if there is a comprehensive list of all mechanics (or popular mechanics) that Pokemon do? So, for instance, a list that says: Energy Disruption, Energy From Discard, Energy Accel, Force Switching, Card Discard, etc, and then lists the Pokemon that have done that.
@Pika250
@Pika250 6 жыл бұрын
So what if you did integrate (BW-on) EXs and GXs in your cube? I'm looking at you Jirachi EX and Tapu Lele GX which search for a supporter, Decidueye GX for the feather arrow, Zoroark GX for trade (which is what the old Empoleon did but on a stage-1) and riotous beating, and even Marshadow GX which can use any attack of any basic Pokémon in the attacker's discard? And of course allowing GXs implies access to GX attacks (hence the need for the GX markers) and they (along with the EXs) give up 2 prizes apiece as opposed to 1 (which the old ex's were changed to in cube format to reflect the nature of the cube). The bad news is, they would have way too much HP and probably way too powerful attacks (and perhaps even abilities), looking especially at the aforementioned. The second issue is that Noctowl BREAK's attack mentions trainer cards in an era where "trainer" is a blanket term to count supporters, stadiums, and items (tools or not). And then we get to the last issue, involving sableye. Overconfident says if you reveal this guy as your active, you go first (if your opponent's active also has this they cancel out and the flip determines who chooses to go first or second) but with the caveat that if you do go first (overconfident or otherwise) recall that you're not allowed an attack on your first turn unless a card says otherwise (deoxys iirc) ( *edit:* or unless you bend the rules to allow such, which a cube may very well do).
@Pika250
@Pika250 6 жыл бұрын
Also, upon closer examination of your cube, you have Lysandre's Trump Card and VS Seeker in the same cube. There is item lock (looking at you luxio and vileplume) to prevent this combo from getting too powerful, otherwise LTC would've been taken out and we would've had another Garchomp/Lucario situation...
@OmniPoke
@OmniPoke 6 жыл бұрын
I think incorporating GX and New EX Pokemon is only viable for a very small sized cube, because essentially they become the only pokemon that matter because they are wayyy beyond every other card you can pick (meaning that everyone builds around only those cards and everything else is irrelevant, short of counter cards). I do however have Shaymin EX and Jirachi EX incorporated in mine, as they are very helpful cards and have low enough HP and weak enough attacks that their soul purpose is usually just to aid setup. I do mention Noctowl break in the video as an example of awkward wording (because the attack is very OP if it includes the blanket term, I use Noctowl as only allowing Trainer Item and Tool cards to increase it's output so the opponent can always play around it) For Sabeleye there really isn't any issue, overconfident allows the player to go first and I use current T1 rules so they cannot attack (going first is still a big advantage in cube as you get attaching and evolving first!) In regards to Trump Card, It's really not as powerful as it was in standard because cube decks are never able to cycle as much as standard ones can...it's still a very strong pick as it can recover important pokemon (and mainly giving you extra gust affects) but it also recovers all the other jank in your discard pile, it's hasn't been a problem card in our testing

this is really cool, i've always wanted to get into pokemon tcg but there are no competitive players in France around my location I have had a lot of fun building magic the gathering cubes and am definetly going to try this out to be able to play with friends! i had a thought when seeing your video , what do you think about making everything singleton except trainers and supporters, this would allow for a more stable way of getting to the pokemon you drafted and allow some easier experimentation of multiple energy types decks? also do you hve any idea how you would implement the latest GX pokemon without making a non mutant cube completely unbalanced?
@OmniPoke
@OmniPoke 5 жыл бұрын
The non-singleton supporters/items is a cool idea to help push synergies or just to have a plentiful supply of cards to help people setup and avoid the headache of donks etc, half of the drafting process fun/frustration for me is striking that balance between being greedy and picking cool pokemon vs useful supporters, so i wouldn't spoon feed people too many good cards- for me GX's are a no go tbh in cube...there are still a handful of new age cards to look at though!

@@OmniPoke thanks for the insight :) i was looking into the different stage two's and you propose candelabra as a fire pokemon however this pokemon can be psychic type or fire type. I like the fact it pushes building multiple energy decks but how should i balance the fact i probably have more psychic stage 2 pokemon than fire in the cube now?
