One of the better videos but she cross contaminates by balling up the towel in her hands. You also want to open the door with a towel so you don't further cross contaminate your hands while exiting the bathroom.

You should also wash your full wrists as well. That is how we do it going into GMP areas

I have a handwashing assessment for my nursing course on Friday and this video is really helpful. I would have never guessed that there was so much bacteria on your fingers and that they could be so harmful.

I *really* hope that this absurdly quantity of wasted water during the washing of her hands is only for this great video; otherwise we may die not because of bacterias, but by not having enough treated water for everyone.

How can the wastage of water is stopped during the process of handwash ? I think the automatic taps should do good as till you dry your hands the water is running continuously hence getting wasted.

We are told to use, elbows to turn the taps on and off, to stop re-contamination of the hands. You should not dry that way as the droplets may contain bacteria. You are supposed to dry from the fingertips down, one paper at a time. Just shows how people do things differently and there is no consistency in teaching and therefore decides the outcome of what is learnt!

I am surprised and disappointed that she did not include up until the elbows like surgeons do. Esp important even for lay people in summer time and subtropical weather since people sneeze into there elbows and forearms mostly now.

My Nursing program did not teach or assess hand washing. It was basically the first social ice-breaker class, but they didn't instruct like this at all. I'm not sure the instructors knew how to wash their hands that well. Some didn't even seem to grasp that hands could be contaminated past the wrist. But they did use the black light, which students thought was "cool", but I'm not sure they understood what the point was. Be afraid. Be very afraid...

So you use alcohol rub before hand washing? How does that make sense cause I always use hand sanitizer after I wash my hands

you don't turn off the faucet when you're washing your hands. the water should flow from the least contaminated to the more contaminated area. It's a manual faucet not a knee or foot controlled one.

Verrry carefully. In all seriousness, it's true that humans are quite resilient, but MRSA is a particular problem among homeless populations in shelters. It's not that being dirty is the problem-- it's being dirty around many other dirty people, and potentially having unhealed wounds.
