Whats good about the RNC is its a *very* transparent compressor. You dont use one of these if you want "character", its not coloured at all. But thats a GOOD thing. You have a daw, theres plenty of options for colour in the box. What this DOES give you is the ultimate in gain and dynamics control. Stick it between your pre and your interface and you'll end up with the ultimate toolkit for controlling your dynamics and gain. I love my RNC.

A FMR RNC 1773 and an Elektron Analog Heat Mk2 are at the end of my audio chain (Modular rig). I could NOT live without these 2 pieces of hardware.
@aAaAa-aAaAA-aA
@aAaAa-aAaAA-aA 4 ай бұрын
Are u going into the heat and then rnc? I like the combo used rather softly while playing. When recording i go from the mixer/interface fx send into heat into rnla into rnc and back into the mixer. Most of the time i use only one fmr but sometimes i like giving it distortion/filter envelope with the heat, fatten it up, sidechain or parallel compress with the rnla and then shape it and maybe give it some breathing with the rnc. A nice combo for sure!

So, with this thing.. do you have to run your mic with an XLR to TRS (1/4) into the RNC 1773 and then a TRS from there to XLR into the interface? or is it just a mix bus compressor?

The "really nice" mode changes the detector from simply doing peak detection to mixing in some RMS and averaging in the detection, meaning it won't be as snappy and it'll be a bit more even, not that this is always the best option, since it means more quick thing will slip through that you might want to control with the compressor. I think I'll buy some of these (and the RNLA version), but I was wondering: What happens if you drive the input into the compressor a bit? How does it distort? Does it sound nice?

Could you please make a video to tell us how to connect this FMR RNC 1773 to an old audio interface such as Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 or Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP or any other Focusrite audio interface or RME audio interface? What kinds of cables do we need? How to connect? We really appreciate you very much!

are you talking about the 1176 by wa? honestly, you'd probably benefit from using the RNC before the wa. not to say the warm audio is bad, just the rnc is way more versatile. I've been testing it out a lot lately and figuring out just how good it is

You want to use the L and R outs of your Scarlette. Then going straight into RNC L and R inputs. From RNC's outputs signal goes into your Scarlette mic preamps. Use the Loop back function on your Scarlette software mixer to be able to reamp and use it for outbord mixing effect.

nice video. i own the RNC and love it. might get a second one for true stereo use -- a single unit only allows joint stereo, not independent "double mono", unfortunately -- so it won't be ideal for many applications. regarding the video itself -- please fix the audio sync! was driving me nuts :) and it's also super-weird to watch you from the side, just looking at a screen. maybe try recording from more of an angle, or actually look into the camera from time to time?

"Nobody knows about" Well, except like everyone whose ever recorded anything for the last 20+years. FMR RNC has been in the same category as things like the Rode NT1, SM57s, mackie small format mixers, Joe Meek (RIP) channel strips since the mid 90s: the most ubiquitous, low-priced, absurd value-for-money production gear available, which you could routinely find anywhere from Guitar Center to local pawn shops.
