When a nation starts misinterpreting its history, its ability to make decisions deteriorates. This is exactly what happened with Indian Muslims at the beginning of the 20th century، when they began to think about their past and present in an erroneous manner. Their intellectuals became afflicted with nostalgia and cultural narcissism. Instead of correcting their own mistakes, they started searching for flaws in other nations. They began to tell their nation that every era of our past was glorious; our ancestors never made any mistakes; and the downfall we are experiencing today is not due to any fault of ours, but solely the result of conspiracy by others and betrayal by our own people; yet, despite this downfall, we are still the best nation in the world because the nations currently leading the world are on the wrong path; whereas we are the nation that possesses the solution to every problem in the world. These were imaginary and unwise thoughts which eventually lead to the nonsense of Khilafat Movement and Hijrat Movement.
